It?s a trade off
It increases the body size and weight significantly but thats the trade off for the sustained power needed for the larger lenses.

Not working as expected
I?m unable to charge batteries with the grip. Not even with the latest canon firmware. The grip do not recognize the the batteries.

Great addition to the EOS R.
This battery grip is a great addition to the EOS R to extend battery life and enable better grip for portrait oriented shots. It holds two batteries but actually extends battery life by more than 2X by switching between the batteries multiple times throughout discharge. The batteries can also be charged inside the grip with an AC adapter, which is included. The only subjective downsides are the bulk and weight that are added. Overall, I highly recommend this battery grip.

A Must Have.
Such an excellent investment. During a photoshoot, I?ve haven?t had to change a battery since I started using the battery grip. I love to added controls for when your camera is in the portrait orientation. So much more comfortable for your hands and wrists. This is a must have. Highly recommend.

BG-E22 Canon grips are nice add-ons
Makes the EOS feel more like a Pro camera. Nice to charge batteries without removing them. Not sure why the same charger won’t work for running the camera for video. That seems pretty silly.

An indispensable accessory for frequent portrait orientation shooters.
Snug-fitting, very comfortable vertical control grip with the potential to double your battery capacity and a useful array of controls for shooting in the portrait orientation. As a bonus, it's also quite handsome on the EOS R.

Classic Canon quality. Incredibly strong. Replicates every single button required for vertical shooting. The quality of the buttons are exactly the same as on the camera. Moves the center of gravity down a lot.
This is a bit pricey. I wish there were instructions included (the classic massive 50 language three paragraph warning page is included. It took me a while to figure out how to remove the battery door - not exactly obvious. You have to slide a tiny bump in the hinge. Specs for how much weight the tripod mount can handle would be nice.
The included USB C adapter can be used to power other things. Not sure what is so special about this adapter compared to standard computer adapters. Using that adapter, battery charging is one battery at a time and they do charge to 100% (there is another review that says they stop charging early). If the battery is at 0, it won't charge. Charging is pretty darn slow.

Exactly what I need.
Definitely does what it’s supposed. Gives a little weight to me EOS R, which is a plus for me. Extends the battery life during long events, and gives me the ability to shoot in portrait mode without having to move my right hand position. Being able to charge the batteries with the provided cable is a plus. Very convenient.

Totally worth it, specially because of flash synch port and charging from the grip!
I can’t shoot without a grip, way more comfortable and in this case vital as the body of the EOS R does not have a flash synch port but the grip does, life saving!

Must-have accessory for portrait photos!
I mostly take portraits using the RF 50mm. The weight from the lens always strained my wrist when just using the normal shutter on the camera. This battery grip has been a complete game changer for me. Despite the added weight, I find that it's easier to hold the camera. I also love the fact that it can hold two batteries at once and you can charge both inside the battery grip using a single USB-C charger. No more swapping batteries on the wall charger!

Exactly what you would expect
Perfect addition to the EOS R. Ability to charge batteries directly through the grip via USB C is a plus.
Has a very sturdy feel and build, downside is you can definitely feel the weight of it.

Battery grip for Canon R camera.
I purchased the battery grip for my Canon R camera because it manes the camera easier to handle. It handles more like my 1D and 5D.

Amazing battery grip
The grip feel great and it allows for more usability of the camera in all position
So far I have not complaints in regards to it as well as that I am able to charge through the grip too

Gives balance but is hefty (weight & price)
This battery grip gives a better balance to the EOS R when one of the larger lenses (like the RF 50mm) is mounted. Has a nice feel to it, but it does add weight and size to a camera that most folks like because it is lighter than the 5D IV or even the 6D II. I do, however, think that it is considerably overpriced. I imagine that when next generation of the EOS R comes out, Canon will include the BG-E22 in a bundle deal to move the original.

Genuinely Needed Accessory
The battery grip makes the Canon EOS R very useable in all circumstances. The body by itself is a little small if on is used to a Pro body DSLR.
