I bought this less than a year ago. It no longer works.

The mic works fine, however, the actual change in sensitivity cone did not seem to act in the way I expected.......example: I purchased this mic to add voice, via my Canon T4i, to some old and silent home movies. The mic picked up the noise of the projector so I switched the sensitivity cone to "shotgun" which is the narrowest setting and also adjusted the sensitivity down on the camera. However, the mic still picks up projector noise, even when sitting 8ft away and with the wind sock on. Clearly a good mic but I was disappointed in the result. Recommended but with reservations.

Was nice and impressed with this shotgun mic. Great directional sound. I like it a lot better than the Rode.

I have used the Canon DM-E1 for several events now and had no problems with it. I love the directional options and the auto on position.

So far I have always used this microphone with its included wind screen. I have also used it only inside. I like the fact that I can use this as a shot gun or a stereo microphone.

I have used the microphone only once as of this writing. It replaces a prior external microphone which I will call 'prior mic'. The recording for a video was in a large room (100 people). The room has an echo. The prior mic faithfully recorded the echo and maybe even emphasized it. The Canon mic minimized the echo so that it was barely noticeable but it recorded the speech faithfully. The Canon mic has 3 recording modes: boom, 90 degree stereo, and 120 degree stereo. I only used the boom setting. A really nice feature is the power setting. It has an Off, On and Auto setting. When the Canon mic is used on a Canon camera, it knows when the camera is recording video and turns on the mic for the video and then goes back to standby when the recording ends. The Auto setting means there is one less thing to set when you start and stop recording video. It is a real plus for this microphone!
