great camera

I use this camera daily. I bought it refurbished and it works like new (knock on wood)... I have been so incredibily pleased by the outcome of the pictures. If you know how to take a picture (because taking a picture isn't all about the camera, it's the person too) and are looking for a simple to use camera it is highly recommended.

You get what you pay for.

I bought this camera after a long spell not using an SLR (the last one I owned was a Yashica). This camera makes it easy to adapt to the different techniques related to digital as opposed to film photography. The things that are particularly useful are the big clear monitor, that makes it easy to focus in real-time mode, and change settings when using the viewfinder; the easy-to-use controls for manual changing of the aperture, shutter speed, ISO levels and focus. I can see the auto modes also being useful to someone making the transfer to an SLR for the first time which makes it a suitable camera for many kinds of photographers. My only criticism is that the body doesn't feel like it will withstand a lot of hard use. My friend has an older Rebel model which although it also has a plastic body, feels more robust. I've read that spending several hundred dollars on a camera doesn't in any way guarantee high-quality pictures, since the most important part of the equation is the lens. This 18-55mm zoom may not be the highest quality but stopped down to F8 and beyond it produces adequately sharp pictures. This camera and lens combination wouldn't satisfy a professional (maybe not even a dedicated amateur) but for someone who understands a bit of photographic theory they can be a neat creative tool, whilst at the same time someone just beginning can easily produce good pictures by using the pre-set modes.

Relatively High Resolution For The Price

Practicing my approach to photo journalism of my family. In hopes to broaden my scope of subjects.

Awesome camera

This is my first DSLR. It is a great camera. i have never been able to take pictures as clear in any situation, especially of moving objects with such clarity. Great for family photos and action shots and very fast. This camera is very easy to use. I recommend getting a book (other than the owners manual) on this camera specifically which will explain when and when not to use specific functions. This has helped a great deal. I recommend Canon Rebel T1i/500D: From Snapshots to Great Shots by Jeff Revell. I will never go back to a point and shoot.

Love Love Love!

I bought this camera when I got tired of my point-and-shoot missing my toddler's quick movements...so many pics lost! The HD video is amazing and doesn't take a pro to figure out. This is my first SLR and I highly recommend it for first time users. Long battery life too :)

My First SLR

This was the first SLR I've ever bought and I love it! I read through the manual so it was super easy to use all the features. I was surprised at how much lighter it is than my friend's Nikon. I was going to buy it new because Canon's refurb warranty is only 30 or 60 days, but when I found a refurb on Adorama with their 1-year warranty I got that! I can't even tell it was a refurb! I am soooo happy with this purchase!

Great deal!

This newer Rebel is lighter than the original. It is similar enough to my first Rebel that I could use it immediately without reading too in-depth in the manual. It is able to write the photos on the card faster than my first Rebel. [...]

Very happy

No regrets. I researched this camera for a long time before buying and it came highly recommended almost everywhere. Works very well in low light situations without a flash. That was one of my main concerns and that worry has completely gone away. I am very pleased and look forward to my skills growing into the camera. The kit lens works just fine, but I will be saving up for a good zoom lens next.

Excellent value

Great to be using an SLR again after using single lens digitals for several years. This provides all the creativity of 35mm but with loads of extra capability! Excellent value. Good for photo enthusiasts who want creativity and qauality. For those who start out using it in basic point and shoot mode - you'll be enticed to learn more.

fantasic camera

Taking photos of my 15 grandchildren and wildlife. Easy to use but still learning. I noticed that the camera doesn't show the type of picture I'm shooting, i.e. jpeg, raw, etc. Learning process is easy so far but I really want to learn more aspiring things with this camera.

I love my new camera!

I bought this camera specifically for outdoor and wildlife photography. I have found it easy to learn to use it, just the right size and not too heavy to carry even with two lenses, and I'm getting beautiful results. I love it!

It is my new best friend

Great price for a great camera. Lens are needed for many desired photographs, but for general use, the provided lens is perfect. Great for people shots and relatively simple to use. It takes a while to figure out the best modes and settings, but the results are worth the effort and price.

Couldn't be happier with this camera

I bought my T1i about a month ago and I'm very happy with it. I've used it for shooting sports (baseball, marathon), a concert in a dark nightclub, and photos of my family. The T1i has performed admirably. The concert photos in particular were noted by the artist (Amanda Palmer) on her Twitter feed. I used Canon's 35mm film AE-1 SLR for over 25 years and this is my first dSLR. I've found the controls to be easy to use in full manual as well as aperture and shutter priority modes. The live view mode (shooting using the LCD panel rather than the viewfinder) was a bit tricky -- focusing is done via a button other the shutter button and is a bit slow. I've been using this less than I had expected as result. I've been using the kit 18-55mm lens, which has been more than adequate for my purposes. When I was shooting in the club and at an elementary school musical it would have been nice to have had a zoom lens with more reach. Overall, I am extremely happy with this camera.

The best photos I have ever taken

I purchased this camera because I was no longer able to capture images of my son when he became a toddler. The shutter lag on my point-and-shoot was causing too many missed moments. The Cannon Rebel EOS T1-i has been wonderful. I have taken some of the most amazing shots. To have a vision of what you want...and then actually control whether or not it turns out that way is priceless. Highly recommend this camera to novice photographers (like myself). It is fun and easy to learn. Also has a great automatic setting if you're not the daring type. You will not be disappointed.

Entry level has been redefined

If you know just enough about photography to want some options yet not enough to understand them all then this is your camera. I can use the presets as a baseline and then manually tinker with things and get an idea of what things look like with each type of adjustment. As someone that wants to be a photographer someday but doesn't want to spend a fortune to get there, this camera gives me the opportunity to learn with equipment that won't let me down.

Impressive equipment!

I've been using this machine for about 3 weeks and I'm very satisfied with the results so far. Since I'm an enthusiast, maybe some comments could be not so interesting for all of you, but I'll try. I bought 3 more lenses beyond the 18-55mm kit. Macro 100mm f/2.8, tele 70-300mm and a Wide just for fun... For now, totally impressed with the results...

Love It

No complaints - it is a great camera. The CA mode is god for those fast shots when you don't want to miss the shot but full auto won't let you get the shot you want. Take time to read the manual and get comfortable with this camnera so you can get the best from it. Sure you ca use it in full auto mode but that is a waste of a great camera

Impressive Camera [...]

This camera is impressive [...]The camera is exponentially better than our Canon Power Shot A570 and it can be operated by a three year old in auto mode. There are many modes and features that will keep me busy learning for quite some time. The complexity of the controls are baffling at times and is my only complaint with the camera. The T1i has more bang/$ than the Nikon D5000 and no recalls.

About Canon T1i

The Canon EOS Rebel T1i EF-S Digital SLR Camera is packed with features, both refined and new. In addition to its admirable performance with an all-new 15.1 Megapixel Canon CMOS sensor, DIGIC 4 Image Processor, a 3.0-inch Clear View LCD with anti-reflective and scratch-resistant coating and compatibility with the EOS System of lenses and Speedlites, the EOS Rebel T1i adds remarkable Full HD video capture at resolutions up to 1920 x 1080.

An HDMI port allows for quick connections to high definition TVs and monitors for easy viewing of your stills and video. The entire operation is simple and easy even if you are a beginner. You'll have uncompromised EOS Digital performance with power and flexibility right in the palm of your hand. Canon's CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) sensor captures images with exceptional clarity and tonal range and offers the most pixels in its class. It offers many of the same new technologies as used by Canon's professional cameras to maximize each pixel's light gathering efficiency.

Its APS-C size sensor creates an effective 1.6x field of view (compared to 35mm format). Canon's DIGIC 4 Image Processor dramatically speeds up all camera operations for intuitive operation and offers improvements in both fine detail and natural color reproduction. It works in concert with the EOS Rebel T1i's image sensor to achieve unprecedented levels of performance in all lighting situations. The EOS Rebel T1i shoots brilliant video, even in full high definition. By simply selecting Movie mode on the EOS Rebel T1i's mode dial, the camera's 3.0-inch LCD lights up and it's ready to go.

Shooting is at a frame rate of 30 fps when shooting SD or HD quality video (640 x 480 and 1280 x 720 pixels, respectively) and at a frame rate of 20 fps in Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) recording. Sound is recorded through the camera's built-in microphone. Playback modes are simple to access, and all Live View AF features can be used in shooting video.
