Questions & Answers

Shopper : does the EOS XS record video?RYAN G : Unfortunately, it does not.SHELLY A : Afraid not...no video capabilities with the Canon EOS Rebel XS.STEPHEN U : No, this Camera does not take video. It does however provide a ton of options for taking great photos. Which is great if you are planning on using photo editing software. My wife and I take ours on nature hikes and have enjoyed it.TATIANA A : No video.Brian T : No it does not. Only eos models newer than the 5d mk ii and t2i can record video. And also the 60d and 7d. KEVIN D : I don"t know it was a gift.
LISA L : Can I hook up the Canon xs to an external monitor for live viewing? (Self Portraits) If so,which cords will I need and any reccomended monitors?BILLY C : Sorry Nancy. I haven't tried that so I can't really answer the question. All I know is that it is a great camera and I still use it all the time.
Shopper : I am starting a photography internship soon. I need a basic DSLR, wide angle lens, a zoom and a fixed 50, also a speed light. What are the best products to get? I'd like to find refurbished items if possible. I didn't expect to get this internship and am not prepared. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you!CLEMENT E : I use my refurbished camera for astrophotography. That means very many shutter actuations and individual exposures of several minutes each time I go out. So far, the camera has performed flawlessly. Wish I could say the same for the operator.ROGER K : TO: Refurb shopper: As a college program need, we loan students cameras if they do not own a good DSLR. Although the warranty period on refurbished cameras is usually shorter, we have had no failures, no breakdowns in the many refurbished cameras we have purchased from Adorama. They have been a good buy for Living Arts College. Roger Klietz Creative DirectorREMO F : It has been my experience that any Canon Rebel camera is capable of giving you excellent pictures. The refurbished camera I purchased was a replacement for a Rebel T1 that was stolen. When I received the camera with the EFS 18-55mm IS lens (by the way an excellent lens), I could not tell the difference from a new unit. This camera is a real work horse and is light in weight so you can haul it around easily. I currently use a Canon 50D, but still like the Rebel as a basic camera. Good luck, I am sure this camera will be everything you are looking for.KENNETH R : The Rebel XS is an excellent DSLR for most photographic uses and it is nicely priced for entry-level photography. It will not perform well for extreme performance (very low light, very high speed auto-focus tracking, etc...), but these features are over-rated unless you do a great deal of that kind of photography. For an internship, in studio, for most street, sport, landscape, etc photography it is a perfectly capable camera. The EFS 18-55 lens is ok, but is of pretty low build quality. Ours fell apart after a few months (although Canon repaired it at no cost). This lens is nothing more than passable, but if you take care and handle it gently it will get you by. I strongly suggest getting the Canon 50mm f/1.4 for your 50 mm. It is a very good quality lens with wide-aperture capabilities at a good price. It is not professional grade build quality, but it is still well built. For a flash, all the Canon flashes are good, but, in my opinion, over-priced. The EX270 is a nice, small flash, but pretty limited and costs around $$$ I think. For the same price you can get a Lumopro 160 flash which is really a professional grade flash with both manual and ttl capabilities. It is much more powerful and flexible than any flash in its price range that I know of. More information can be found on this flash with a Google search. Good luck.

excellent

The camera and accessories are in mint condition and an amazing value for the price. I chose super saver shipping and still got my camera in two days. I ordered it in time for a trip to Iceland and am very satisfied with the results. Beautiful pictures and great camera for a beginner that still wants a little more than what small non-professional cameras have to offer. Thank you, Adorama, you are the best!

This camera is outstanding

I just love to take photo's of anything that I see that I like, I don't like luging a lot with me. This kit is great, the bag is good size more lenses, I know thats going to happen soon to. So all & all this is fantastic for me.

Good camera, easy to use

This is a good camera, and easy to use in automatic mode. My big problem is that it fell off the hotel bed and damaged the viewfinder. I hoped that digital cameras would be a little more rugged. The camera still takes good pictures even though looking through the viewfinder is blurry.

Wow, incredible deal!

When I got this camera, I was surprised that it looked absolutely brand new. Another thing that shocked me was that it had only had about 250 pictures taken with it before I got it. I saved $150 buying this instead of a brand new camera. I was not disappointed and will only buy refurbished Canon cameras from Adorama from now on.

Great Beginning!

If you're new or fairly new to DSLR's, this is a great way to begin. It is easy to use, easy to learn on, and is a camera you'd keep in your arsenal even as you become more knowledgeable. Meaning it's a camera you can grow with. And when you do want to move on up the Canon line, you're not at a learning curve. Their menu and layout is near the same as the XS, so you just pick up your next Canon right where you left off and keep on growing.

I hope I find another deal like this.

I am a freelance Videographer and producer. I wanted to offer senior class pictures at my studio. I use a Kodak Z18is for stills in my videos, but wanted to upgrade to a DSLR. The Kodak offers manual controls, and I have used a friend's Canon XTI, so I felt it was time to buy a DSLR. I couldn't believe the price on this XS. Then I noticed it was refurbished. I was very hesitant about buying it. With the reviews here, guarantee, and price I felt confidant about the purchase. [...] Like other reviews, I thought it was new. No, scratches, no marring, not even a smudge. The big selling point for me was the price and guarantee. Do your research to be sure this is the camera for you. I just wanted an inexpensive entry level camera. I shot over 500 pictures the first week I got it. Next purchase for video or photography I will check here first.

Great Starter Camera

I bought this camera as my first DSLR for my family pictures, etc and it's great! I have had it for about 3 months, and I use it weekly. It has been durable and reliable, and even my 5 year old has taken pictures with it. One downside has been the auto-focus, and I have missed a few shots because the lens kept rotating back and forth and couldn't decide how to focus. Otherwise this camera is an A+.

Great Buy

I am a newbie, but totally enjoy this camera. It is the next step up from a point and shoot. I was worried about looking like a nerd w/ a big old camera hanging from my neck. But the body is not that bulky and fits perfectly in my hand.

I love this camera

I love this camera! As someone who is just starting out, it is so very easy to use. I am bummed because i am used to seeing the picture in the LCD before i take the shot, but that isn't an option with most SLRs unless its the brand new fancy expensive models! Overall I am very pleased

I can tell this camera has a lot of potential. Also spending less than retail prices was a huge plus!

I am still learning a lot about photography and was looking for a camera with a faster shutter speed because my point and shoot just wasn't fast enough! It also had a harder time in lower lighting, like concerts. This camera is great for both of those and so far has been easy to navigate. I have much to learn but the manual is easy to read, and I can tell this camera has a lot of potential. Also spending less than retail prices was a huge plus! I would buy from here again.

The only dislike I have is the lens that came with the camera kit. It was my first purchase of a SLR camera and over all I am pleased.

Wonderful Camera

This is a great camera. High quality photos at a great price. Don't let the "refurbished" scare you. My camera came in perfect condition, original packaging, and there is no way to tell it was refurbished. I went back and forth about getting a refurb or paying $60 more for a brand new camera. I made the right choice, and have no regrets saving a little money. Highly recommend this camera, and Adorama.

Great price for a DSLR.

My wife finally decided to go from film to digital dslr. I found this refurbished XS and am really glad I ordered it for her. She loves it. I also got a refurbished 75-300mm lens. They both look and operate like brand new. I have purchased other refurbished items in the past and have not been disappointed. Adorama backs them with their own warranty that is just as good as new.

Excellent product and a great deal!

This was a great deal. I got the package with the spare battery and the case and a 2gig memory card for [$]. Just the camera was over $500 other places. Yes it's a referb. but I've bought other Canon products as referbs too. Not an issue for me.

Very Good Camera

Good camera for beginners like me. I liked its quick AF. Camera was light and convenient for my hands. Unfortunately, in a week of use the camera was stolen( But next time I'm going to purchase T1i for its better hi/res LCD.

Great Deal, Great Camera, A++ Quality!

By 88flaminchevy

Anytime you purchase something labeled as "refurbished", you start to wonder if you made the right decision. Let me put your mind at ease, what a great buy! To start, the camera showed up in a Canon white box, factory sealed. Once I opened the box, I noticed everything nicely wrapped and padded. After an hour of carefully inspecting every inch of the camera and lens, I honestly can't find a single nick, scratch, or blemish! The camera and accessories look immaculate! I popped the batter...

For perfect photos, fast and simple, there's nothing better than Canon's new EOS Rebel XS. With powerful features including a 10.1-megapixel CMOS Sensor, Canon's DIGIC III processor, fast shooting and more, it's a digital powerhouse. With simple, easy-to-use controls, a compact design, a 2.5-inch LCD monitor and Live View Function, it's a beginner's dream come true.

Canon's CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) sensor captures images with exceptional clarity and tonal range and offers the most pixels in its class. It offers many of the same new technologies first seen in Canon's professional EOS-1D Mark III to maximize each pixel's light gathering efficiency. It's an APS-C size sensor (22.2 x 14.8mm) and there's an effective 1.6x increase in the lens's marked focal length when attached. Canon's DIGIC III Image Processor dramatically enhances image quality and speeds up all camera operations for intuitive operation.

It works in concert with the EOS Rebel XS's sensor to achieve unprecedented levels of performance in all lighting situations. DIGIC III Image Processor is developed to maximize performance between the capture and recording stages of digital photography, the EOS Rebel XS's DIGIC III Image Processor works hand in hand with Canon's CMOS sensor to achieve even higher levels of performance.
