Good while it lasted

Good while it lasted This little camera is now going on 3 years for me. Little did I realize it had a major flaw I had not been notified of. Last fall I was in a minor accident and tried to take pictures of the damage only to be told my newly charged battery was low and the camera would not stay on. I took the pictures with my phone and when I got home I put the camera battery in the charger only to be told it was full. I figured this was a one time glitch, only to be told again twice it was non functioning due to the battery. Yesterday the camera wanted me to go thru the start up menu again beginning with setting the date, time and location. I removed the battery, put the camera in a drawer. Sad to say goodbye to what I had thought was a good little camera.

Advanced features great but hard to set up

If you just use the SD card, and that's it. WONDERFUL you are going to like this camera. For a small dedicated item that will do its job for small jobs, perfect. Good pictures and good HD video. Most people will never need these extras, but I thought I should review them. The accessories cost is very steep. So is the extra battery. Battery life is fine if just taking a few pics or short video. For the casual user, perfect. However. It does have some really great extra software kit. But you really need to be an IT person to set it up. Easy WIFI it is not. But it is as secure as it comes. So You will like it. Wish I could use it as a web cam That is really the killer feature it is missing. Otherwise, it won't be able to compete with the Cell phone cams next year.

Excellent Camera

the 330 ELPH Canon model is a wonderful camera and I like that it is 12.1 Megapixels (I don't need more than that and it allows me to store more photos on my computer. The camera is easy to use and importantly operates brilliantly with existing light -- remarkably good. For example, I can shoot well with 1 candle in a completely dark room.. I like doing non-flash photos--it's more natural and less obtrusive (since I am not annoying others with flashing lights). In addition to an incredibly easy HD movie mode (just 1 button allows a movie clip pronto), the 330 model also has a hybrid button that allows me to make a compilation of short movie scenes that string together as one clip automatically (even though I am turning the camera off between clips). At Thanksgiving I got such a good sampling of the family day by turning on the hybrid mode and piecing together pre-meal chat, the dinner table scene, and our after-dinner relaxing. There are a few minor disadvantages but these are small details compared to all the camera's advantages: the gray-on-gray battery indicator on the screen doesn't easily alert me that I am running out of battery power (my other camera warned me better beforehand); The area where the USB and HDMI ports are located has a flimsy plastic cover that will likely break off before long; Sometimes (not often) the camera will decide all on its own that it wants to zoom in on something when I haven't touched any other buttons other than the shutter (so, I just manually un-zoom and start again). But these are minor points and I would buy the Canon ELPH 330 again in an instant. I even preferthe 330 to the 340 newer model that I borrowed from a friend.

DO NOT BUY

I have had nothing but problems with this camera so far. Purchased this back in January 2014 and it is a complete headache. Every month there is a communication error and the wifi connectivity is a joke! I would not recommend this to anyone.

Low Battery product advisory

Phenomenon: In some PowerShot ELPH 330HS compact digital cameras, there is a possibility that the following operation errors may occur due to insufficient contact between the camera’s battery terminal and the battery, even when the battery has sufficient power remaining. ? The message “Charge the battery” appears immediately. ? The power sometimes does not turn on ? The power turns off during use. On canon's website do a search on 330HS advisory, click on consumer & home office

Not reliable

About a month after we got this camera we started getting a message to charge the battery, even when the battery was fully charged. The camera wouldn't turn on until you pulled out the battery and put it back in. So we replaced the battery, thinking it was the problem. About 11 months later we had the same problem, so we used a battery from our previous Canon, which worked fine in that old camera. Same messages; camera would not reliably turn on, but would eventually after several tries. The camera was just out of warranty, so we had no recourse. One star because this unit was defective-- probably a firmware glitch-- but it lasted just long enough to leave us with a useless camera that had no respectable user life.

330 outperforms my old 850,but prefer old software

I switched from full-sized SLRs to pocket-sized ELPHs seven years ago, and never looked back. My ELPH 330 does everything I need in a camera, and having it with me at all times when I am on the road means I lose fewer image opportunities than I did with my larger cameras that were more intrusive. The ELPH 330 outperforms my older ELPH 850, especially in telephoto shots -- the optics have been improved greatly. The only downside is that the ELPH 330 software (Imagebrowser is more complex and much slower than the older Zoombrowser software. I usually download and edit several thousand images per trip, and ZB takes it in stride while IB just plugs away slowly. I think too many bells and whistles have been added to IB, so buy an ELPH 330 but keep your older ZB software. I have used the ELP 330 for almost a year with only one recurring malfunction -- the lens cover (a 2-part diaphragm) sometimes does not open fully -- it is quite fragile in rough conditions (dusty roads, etc.). One can simply overcome this by manually moving the cover to a fully open position.

EXCELLENT WIDE-ANGLE IMAGES Camera

For a simple point-and-shoot camera the battery life seems to be just fine for me. I don't shoot a lot of pics. I bought 2 new batteries at Best-Buy and charge them up and keep them with me for when I need them. I bought the camera because I needed a nice wide-angle camera to get all of the nature scenes on my winter vacation trip to Cuba. The camera worked really nice, and the images that come out of it on bright days are really nice. I always use the 'i-Contrast' feature set on 'LOW', and it brings out the details in shadow areas. I never used the software that comes with the camera and I use a card reader to transfer images. So no problems because I keep things simple. I downloaded a FREEWARE called 'Freemake Video Converter' and I use this free software to convert all of the camera's videos from Quicktime to MP4, and the size of the video file goes down from 30 MB to only 4 MB, saving a ton of storage space. For editing pics I use Google's free 'PICASA' freeware. The camera is FAST, amazingly fast. And low-light pics blow every other point-and-shoot camera out of the water. But the best is the 24mm wide angle - that's why I got the camera in the first place. Don't use the included software and don't use the WI-FI, and you will love this camera.

Good camera Software is terrible

I really like the camera...I would have reviewed just the camera much higher...but the software is getting worse..This is my 3rd canon camera and previously the software to download pictures worked fine...I don't expect much...just let me download untransferred images...this is way too high a hurdle for the current canon team. No longer does the software popup...I how have to find a 3rd party application to to do this. I may just delete all canon software so it doesn't interphere with something that actually might work

Very poor battery life

I've had this camera less than 6 months and the battery is completely dead after using it 6 different occasions. Since I charged it prior to an event it died after 2 pictures and now that is what it keeps doing. Allows 2 pictures and dies. I'm not happy as the replacement battery is ridiculously expensive. I'll be looking for a new camera as buying batteries will soon cost more than the camera with a years use.

WHAT IS GOING ON!!!

I have only given it one star because I can't turn it on! I've charged the battery multiple times and every time I try to turn it on nothing happens. The screen won't even turn on to tell me the battery power. I will happily change my review when it starts working but right now its a waste of space! If someone can please get back to me quickly! Thank you

PS Elph 330

In a nutshell... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. No complaints & I recommend this camera to anyone who loves photography as much as I do. I have a Canon Rebel T1i which I absolutely love & adore, but I carry the PS Elph 330 in my purse everyday.

Nice Camera/Great Service

Gave this as a gift to my brother when his Panasonic ZS20 bricked and he needed a good, ultra-compact camera to take on his vacation. Oh, how he loved that Panasonic! But now he has a new love...the Canon ELPH 330HS. He likes that it's smaller than the ZS20, takes great photos and has WiFi. The buttons are a bit small for his beefy hands, and the Canon software is different enough that he actually has to RTFM, but otherwise he is quite pleased. I got a decent price on Adorama--their website is easy to negotiate, free shipping, etc. I've purchased from Adorama in the past and will likely do so in the future. By the way, in my opinion nothing is perfect, so nothing gets 5 stars. Consequently, 4 stars is great.

Terrible Interface

This is about my 7th digital camera, and I never thought i could get so frustrated by interfacing with a camera. I still have no idea how to change the frame rate for videos.(maybe it doesnt have the ability) Took me forever to find out where the menu for changing video quality is. Totally non intuitive, at least for me. My SD card reader was having problems so i foolishly tried using the wifi to transfer pictures to my pc. I guess the wifi is only for smart phones and tablets, and social networking users who want their pics to go direct to a third party. Software crashes when I tried to run it. The Manual is useless.

mechanically phenomenal, but software issues.

Mechanically, this is an amazing cam. The controls and menus are remarkably well designed. That said, here are my gripes: 1. I tried to install the XP software but all software included with the cam and all updated versions on the website fail to load and produce only an error message. Thankfully I'm a linux user and only use my XP machine in emergencies, a program called "Digikam" can let me use the core features... 2. I am irked by the 10 minute limitation for video recording, I made a little cat video and the cam cut it at 10 minutes even though there is no technological resaon why it couldn't continue recording for hours. 3. The camera is a slippery little bugger, make sure you use the wrist strap to avoid fumbling it! (file this under useful advice). 4. The camera doesn't have direct filesystem access via USB or wifi. 5. The wifi connection is perfectly easy to set up but I can't do anything with it because the software doesn't work. It exposes a proprietary service around port 15,000 but there's no utility to do anything useful with it. 6. The camera can't seem to be used as a webcam. (I was hoping for a device that would do an OK job at everything, and then after winning the lottery buy a camera with a CCD big enough to resolve the serial numbers on the parts left by the moon missions.)

Does what it's supposed to do.

Used for recording life around me: kids, grandkids, events. The "P" mode has enabled some great Christmas lights outdoor night shots. Wi-Fi was part of the selling point. The details on this took up most of the manual and was daunting enough that I doubt it will ever be used. Nice that it comes with a large 16GB card. The floating focus area on the screen does not always grab what I want to focus on. Not sure how to change to a fixed focal point then reframe. Still new to this camera. Great when I don't want to pull out my D7 and switch lens.

Great camera. Wish it auto-rotated

Have had the camera for a month now. It takes great photos. However, unlike my 5 year old Canon compact which has the auto rotate function for photos, this one does not. I'm also not sure if I like the 3 sec movie it takes prior to the photo. Overall it is a great camera. Small and light weight. Easy to use.

Great pocket camera!

I am a serious DSLR user. I got this for those occasions when I don't want to be carrying around a camera system. For my needs, this is a great everyday walking around camera. It has just enough manual override controls, when I want to do something a bit more serious. I can select the metering balance, change the color balance and adjust the exposure compensation.

Excellant point and shoot camera at this

I use Nikon DSLR caera for my photography. I bought this for my wife. As I can also use this Point & Shoot camera, if I'm not carrying my camera due to some reason, I did a research on Point & shoot camera before buying this. My finding during research:- - I did not like any point & shoot camera at all at this proce range - I looked at Sony P&S Camera also but it was not as great as Canon. When I got this camera I used this at the day time , night time and result were quite impressive. Like Samsung S4 mobile, it also capture few second video while you shoot photo. (but you can disable that feature if you want) I forgot to mention this camera is fast. There are lot more feature and I cannot describe all here. But the bottom line is that . This Camera is great for Family vacation photography.

Big thing in a small package

Compared this camara to the S110 in a full day of comparison shots, only late in the evening when the sun set, did this camara start to show any weakness. In ample lighting image quality is great. Even at night if you are in a club or bar, outside at a moderately lit function shots will be fine. Needless to say I returned the S110 and kept the 330, my new constant companion.

good but too much

the reason we bought this is that it is an updated version of our 8-year old canon sd200 (3.2 mp) since both cameras use the same battery and work similarly. and the reviews from other users seemed fairly good. this camera cost about a 1/3 of our old one and certainly has many more features and significantly greater capture resolution. (scored a low sale price with free memory card and free carry case!) but I find that for our use, the camera has too many options and the small buttons are difficult to use (if you do not shoot on Auto, you might well wind up using the buttons a lot). the camera performs fine and I find that we get better detail when not using the max resolution pixel count (12MP is a lot to cram into a small 1/2.3 sensor!). I get the sense that our old camera performs and captures as well as this new one but the old camera has very few features to use. we find it cumbersome to navigate through so many options and have been a little more than aggravated at times trying to press or select control buttons. plus the old camera has a metal body and a more sturdy feel; this one is all plastic and feels less robust. battery life is so-so but we have spares from the other camera. and we have no use for the wi-fi. not a bad camera at all. perfectly fine for putting in a purse or shirt pocket but not sure it's really much better than most cellphone cameras with an editing app. typical of most canon camera products....generally above average performance and quality for the price. in retrospect, I feel that we should have passed on this one and moved up to something larger. we are keeping the camera because the low price we paid makes it not worth the effort and expense to return it.

made for a wonderful gift

Took a little bit to get it set up, but the wifi is awesome. Wish I had it on my D-7000. I may end up buying a new DSLR with Wifi, just because it is so handy. Not crazy about the color, but it is what my wife wanted, probably to stop me from taking it.

LOVE THIS CAMERA

I have owned this camera for 10 months, bought one now for my daughter-in-law. My daughter has had same for 2 years! We all love it. So tiny, fits in a shirt pocket. Battery life is great but I bought an extra just for special occasions that may need lots of "film". Great zoom, nice large screen, easy settings and many options for shooting conditions! I know it will do so much more than I even use and want to take a class.

Perfect Companion

By raybot 1.

I purchased the Canon ELPH 110 in 2012 and unfortunately dropped it with the lens extended. It gave me beautiful, clear shots, a lot of features and so very tiny and functional like a small point and shoot should be. I replaced it with another brand for less and was not satisfied. I brought the Canon ELPH 330 a few days ago and knew what to expect. After almost 200 shots on Auto every single one came out clear HD. I'm not a professional photographer but I generally know my way around point an...

Fits The Bill

By Retired P.

As a retired pro (mostly sports and business conventions/events, also Vietnam war correspondence), I needed something a little more portable than my DSLR kits for outings and trips with the grandkids. Old bones don't like heavy. I decided WiFi was a must, since I always have my iPhone and iPad with me, and cables/photo adapters are an unnecessary nuisance. Works perfectly for this. Canon was also a must, because I've been using them since my first F-1 in 1971 in Vietnam and love the brand's ...

You'll make memories last in beautifully realistic 1080p Full HD video with a press of the dedicated movie button, and use new Hybrid Auto to automatically create an optimized video overview of your day's activities. High Speed AF ensures well-focused action shots, and Intelligent IS delivers blur-free images. And now shoot longer on a single charge with power consumption-reducing ECO Mode.

The PowerShot ELPH 330 HS is equipped with enhanced built-in Wi-Fi for on-the-go convenience when you want to share what you've recorded with friends, family and the whole world. The camera can connect directly to both iOS and Android devices, and upload images via the free Canon CameraWindow app without a computer. Easily post your images to your favorite social networking sites through CANON iMAGE GATEWAY or save them to the online photo album to share anytime, anywhere.

The PowerShot ELPH 330 HS features a powerful Genuine Canon 10x Zoom Lens that delivers outstanding optical performance and versatility. Fitting a high-performance lens with such wide zoom range into a camera so thin that would normally be considered an impossible feat, but Canon's expert optical engineering met the challenge, developing a lens that achieves outstanding compactness with high zoom power and superb performance. The zoom starts at 24mm wide-angle and extends to 240mm telephoto (35mm equivalent), covering an exceptionally wide range. The telephoto reach gives you the freedom to capture subjects from a considerable distance, while the 24mm wide-angle makes it easy to shoot sweeping landscapes, large groups of people and tall buildings.

Handheld shooting can often lead to camera shake, making photos and videos blurry. Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer is a sophisticated system that uses lens-shift technology to correct for unwanted camera movement. It makes handheld photography more practical, providing excellent image quality in many difficult shooting situations: outdoors at dusk, inside without a flash, and even at the telephoto end of the zoom range without a tripod. For photos, it enables shooting at slower shutter speeds, accommodating more low-light shooting situations than ever before without having to boost ISO sensitivity. With camera shake and vibration reduced, you get a sharper, steadier image. And because it is an optical system, there is none of the image degradation typical with electronic image stabilizers.

The PowerShot ELPH 330 HS employs a Canon 12.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor, which delivers state-of-the-art imaging performance and is optimized for use in compact cameras. Utilizing a sophisticated light-capturing design, it provides high sensitivity for improved high ISO capture with reduced noise. It is also a high-speed design, capable of rapidly capturing and moving image data to the processor, enabling faster continuous shooting and faster autofocus.

The latest-generation Canon DIGIC 5 Image Processor works with the PowerShot ELPH 330 HS's image sensor to bring phenomenal increases in processing speed and power, delivering incredible detail in more situations, without the need for artificial light sources. Improved noise reduction produces clearer images when shooting in low light at high ISO speeds. The faster processing speed results in faster continuous shooting capability while maintaining full image quality. With the power of the DIGIC 5 Image Processor, the PowerShot ELPH 330 HS can achieve higher ISO sensitivity and even perform advanced functions like lens correction, special scene modes and much more.

The PowerShot ELPH 330 HS gives you the power to create images with spectacular depth, detail and emotional resonance. The 12.1 Megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor works in concert with the DIGIC 5 Image Processor to create the renowned Canon HS SYSTEM. With the Canon HS SYSTEM, you'll experience excellent tracking performance even in low light, and achieve gorgeous still image quality even at high ISO speeds all the way up to ISO 6400; beautiful low-light shots are possible with minimal noise and maximum detail in highlight and shadow areas. The Canon HS SYSTEM lets you use higher shutter speeds to capture clearer images with reduced noise and blur in a variety of situations for incredible photos and even when shooting video.
