Best Elph Yet

I have owned many Canon Elph products since their introduction and this is the best one yet; Sure, you sacrifice some picture quality for it's small size, but if you need a pocket camera with powerful zoom, this would be my choice. I love photographing nature and take this camera with me everywhere, especially on long bicycle rides, where you never know what picture opportunities may arise. Also, the video mode works very well. I definitely recommend this product

Pocket wonder

they say the best camera is the one you are carrying. I lose too many shots by not slinging my 7D/24-105 around my neck. This is a nice pocket camera. Smaller than a deck of cards. Fits easily into front pocket. Great 12X optical zoom, with digital post to 48X. functional IS. Best feature is the low light handheld which lays up to 4 snaps down to creae a single image. I shot indoor theater at full zoom and the results are great. No blur, loss of image quality. Takes very good video in regular or super speed to allow slo-mo playback. Only downside is short battery life. My twin batteries in the 7D grip last forever, this tiny NB-9L battery only goes maybe 100 shots. Inexpensive extra batteries are a MUST. I have an original ELPH APC camera. This is actually smaller, same boxey shape, but light years ahead in features and quality. This would not be my only camera, but it is the only camera I would have when my DSLR is at home.

A Homerun

Wanted a quick, uncomplicated camera to use photographing special events. Like the varied features especially the low light mode. I found the abbreviated manual tricky to understand.

The Canon PowerShot ELPH 520 HS Digital Camera (Black) is a marvel of modern engineering. Only about three-quarters of an inch thick, the ELPH 520 HS nonetheless incorporates a new 12x optical zoom lens that feeds scenery to a new 1/3-inch 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor. The new sensor is designed specifically for use with the new lens, the result being bright and clear images throughout the full zoom range of 28 to 336mm (the 35mm equivalent focal length).

The 12x optical zoom works in conjunction with a 4x digital zoom for an overall 48x zoom with optical image stabilization keeping things steady. A high-speed burst mode captures 6.8 frames per second at a resolution of 1824 x 1368 pixels. A DIGIC 5 image processor orchestrates the entire image-capture process and offers an ISO range that goes up to 3200.

Video capture with the PowerShot ELPH 520 HS is just as impressive as with still images. The camera can capture 1080p full HD video with stereo sound at 24 frames per second (fps), as well as 720p HD video at 30 fps and you can use the full optical zoom range while shooting video. If you like, you can also shoot video in the Apple iFrame format.
