Questions & Answers

Shopper : Will this viewfinder work with the m2 camera?PAUL B : If you mean the EOS-M, unfortunately not. (I have an EOS-M also, and wish that it would!)MATTHEW M : It's not supposed to, if it does though, do share.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?JAMES H : It tilts upward from the horizontal position shown. This is useful for low or macro shots. The EVF-DC2 product does not tilt.

Used on PowerShot G1X Mark II

Overpriced. With great reluctance, I finally purchased this. Composing and using the camera, especially in bright sunlight, is vastly improved. Of course, with this new bulge on top of the camera, it is less pocketable and doesn't fit my carrying case anymore. On balance though, I am satisfied.

Required Equpment for Telephoto Shots

I have use EFV from day one with my G3 X and highly recommend it when shooting anytime. I am so use to DSLR view finders that my composition is much easier with the EVF. On bright days the EVF can make your shooting much more enjoyable as you'll be able to see the subject without the glare which will occur with the LCD screen. Yes, I consider the EVF a must have for the G3 X.

Outstanding addition to the Eos M3

The electric view finder makes an excellent addition to the EOS M3. Live view on the display screen is not detailed enough if you are using a filter like a circular polarizing filter. That detail is provided in the EVF. If you put your eye (or eye glass lens) to the EVF, it automaitally turns off the Live View screen and turns on the EVF. If you remove you eye from the EVF, it reverses the operation automatically. There is also a button on the side of the EVF to do this manually. The DC1 also tilts upward which is helpful if you are shooting something close to the ground.

It just works very well

It just works very well, and I like that it rotates up for those low level shots. Could be a bit more compact?

Electronic Viewfinder

Purchased for my daughter to compliment her M3. She likes seeing "what the camera sees" versus the optical viewfinder on a regular DSLR. Plus, she prefers it separate to have a minimalist look and feel for camera shoots.

great viewfinder

I would not buy the Canon G3-X without this viewfinder! With it I am able to see small birds through the viewfinder and get excellent photos with the G3-X.

Must-have for G3X but wishing I wouldn't need it

This is a good product on its own, the picture quality is excellent. The problem lies with the whole idea of having an attachable EVF instead of a built-in one. I use it with G3X which is already large and heavy, I wouldn't mind making it even bigger and heavier to accommodate a EVF without having to deal with this attachment, which is surely prone to damage and misplacement. Not to mention the cost - outrageous!

Viewfinder flexibility

Love the flexibility of having the 90 degree positioning of this electronic viewfinder as well as being able to take it off and stow it separately in my air carryon bag with the camera when traveling

Great addition to the Canon G3X

Under some conditions, using the rear screen on the Canon G3X is not desirable. The Canon EVF-DC1 Electronic Viewfinder is a great alternative to the rear screen view. The viewfinder offers me alternatives that fit my many uses of my Canon G3X. I would highly recommend the EVF-DC1 Electronic Viewfinder to any serious hobbyist or professional.

Great EVF for my Canon M3

This device really helps during manual focusing, down angle viewing. Recommended for M3 owners.

A good addition to the M3

I find this a good and useful addition to the canon M3. A lot of time when using outdoors the glare of the sun makes it hard to see the view screen. Having a EVF makes it easier to frame and compose your shots. Also work great indoors.

Needed for Bright Light situations

I'm not a big fan of mirrorless cameras with no viewfinder -- composing with the display results in many missed shots. I consider this EVF a necessity even if relatively expensive.

Necessary??

I still find viewfinders preferable to viewing a screen, particularly in bright light conditions. This EVF makes the camera much more suitable for outside use.

Makes G1X more usable in bright light

I find an EVF essential for mirrorless cameras. Working off a display screen (even a tilted on) is tough in bright light.

Another point of view

The G1X II is an awesome companion, I take the thing everywhere, but, it too needs a companion; if there is one add-on to buy for the G1X II, buy this, and a custom grip, and a spare battery (or two), in that order. The good... Excellent resolution for a EVF; I prefer it over the Sony RX100 III's pop-up EVF. Greatly helps with shot composition Assists with bright lightning conditions where the external LCD doesn't cut it (think mid-day outside) Good refresh rate Superior to optical viewfinder (I can say this since I own a 5D III) as you can get your digital readouts, IE peak focusing, and zoom assist overplayed over your composition Makes manual focusing possible in conjunction with peak focusing and zoom assist as I previously mentioned Cons... Price. Although most of us buying a G1X II probably already have a lot invested in photography and could jump for one, with the Sony RX100 III having a built-in pop-up EVF, Canon should either drop the price, or, the next G1X, assuming there is one, should have it either bundled or also have a pop-up EVF. Side note, there is some talk it drains the battery faster, non-sense in my experience. But, I would buy a spare battery whether you bite or not.

The Canon EVF-DC1 Electronic Viewfinder offers an XGA LCD with a 2.36MP resolution and displays all shooting information found on the camera's LCD screen. Mounted easily on the camera's accessory shoe, the electronic viewfinder features a high eyepoint, a dioptric adjustment range of -3.0 to +1.0 and 90deg. upward tilt capability, helping to enable steady shooting even on an angle.

The camera can be directed to switch automatically between the LCD and the viewfinder with an eyepiece sensor or can be set manually with a dedicated button. Brightness can be set independently from the camera's monitor.
