good printer poor Canon support

I've had the D1150 for nearly two years now. It is well built and rarely jams. Canon does a poor job of supporting new OS releases--especially Mac OSX. And Canon has never released a firmware upgrade for the D1150. It badly needs a firmware upgrade to improve envelope printing and network setup.

No network scanning = FAIL

Bought this copier to use in our small business. We really were most concerned with copying and liked the 2-sided function. The description says it has networking capabilities, faxing and scanning. Too bad it doesn't say it can't network scan...only usb. That really doesn't work in any multi-computer set up. We would not have gotten this machine knowing that. It feels like we have been cheated. We researched quite a bit and NOWHERE did we read you can't network scan. On the plus side, it does copy well and is reasonably fast and quiet.

Major Issues Printing Envelopes

For 2 years I have been unable to print non-standard sized envelopes with this printer. I see others have the same issue with this printer. Probably a good idea to have a 2nd printer dedicated to envelop printing. This one works well for standard duplex printing.

second canon copier, good value

When the printer works, its great. But it gives a person a hard time printing labels or envelope. The machine beeps and asks you to stick an envelope in, choose the non-existent envelope setting, and refuses to print it, same issue with labels. I can choose foolscap paper but not an envelope in the settings, believe it or not. Sadly, I have to resort to a $25 ink jet printer that does a better job for envelopes. Canon needs to take out the complexity and print an envelope when the computer orders it to. Other than that, it works fine, great print quality and fortunately scans with a single touch of a button. Copies great.

Solid Work Horse

I bought this product to replace my previous canon imageclass. I had the old machine for 7 years. This is a major improvement because the toner slides in easily in contradistinction to the old machine. Fast start time, copy time and print time. My family uses it a lot for school and home projects..but I do I lot of work at home, and it's great for medium size copy and fax jobs. So far no cons

Par for the Course

I replaced an older Canon laser with this D1150. I am pleased with the overall performance and function. This is what I have come to expect from Canon office products. This printer is a great value for home/small/medium offices. The number of great features and the user friendly format make this printer a great value. I just wish toner was less expensive!

Best Purchase

This is the second cannon printer I have owned. The first is still going strong after about years. NEVER had to have a tech out to look at or repair it. This machine is a little work horse. If you know who to use it and take care of it you shouldn't have problems ever.

How to Print an Envelope

Such a basic feature. I have spent 30 minutes trying to print on an envelope and could find no info at the Canon website, not anyone to contact.

Great Machine

We bought this for a business, everyday use. We have had it about 3 months and its a great machine. I did a lot of research prior to buying and very happy i choose this one. User friendly. The only thing i wish they would change is the manual feed...would prefer off to the right side, not in the front where i consistently have to open and close as i use this a lot. Overall, we use it for all its features, scanning, emailing, copies, love the copy features. CANON is the way to go for copiers.

Dont Buy

I bought a canon D1150. this thing is more picky than a 2 year old's eating habits. It wont print a TX or RX report when the toner is low. It's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Now to get a TX report I have to throw out toner with some life left. Find another product.

Disappointed

The double sided feature of the scanner is very sloppy, noisy, and slow. The scan quality is not good. The multi purpose tray has to be manually set up to be used for either envelope or letterhead. Too many steps to use the MP tray. Overall disappointed with this printer.

It works well, but....

I am satisfied with this product for my office with a few reservations. I would like to be able to print off a confirmation that my fax went through. I would like some sort of copy counter feature. The most disappointing feature is that the very expensive toner cartridge has to be replaced at around 2000 copies in stead of the advertized 5000.

I've had my Canon D1150 for about a month now and my experience with it has been entirely positive. We have several Macs networked via Airport Extreme, and the D1150 connects to the network via an ethernet hub. Anyone in the house can print to it wirelessly. We have it set to use letter size paper in the bottom tray and #10 envelopes in the front loading tray. Both paper sources work seamlessly. All the machine's functions work as they should. It would be nice to be able to control scanning wirelessly, but it's really no problem to connect using USB in order to scan. This is my first experience with duplex copying. The D1150 does two-sided printing and copying quickly and easily. I've traded up to the D1150 from a slower laser printer and a vastly slower copier. The speed and convenience of this unit are impressive. I also like the energy saver feature. The machine is always ready for a quick start with out being "on" all the time. A word of advice: if you use it with Macs, you will appreciate the Macintosh set-up documentation which comes with the three on-line Mac software downloads. Overall, the D1150 is a splendid unit. It is Mac friendly and works fine with Snow Leopard.

New purchase for business

This printer by specifications has what I need. No setup described for network printing with computers using Mac OS. No printer drivers if needed are described within the manual, though the printer scanner is compatible by specifications.

Canon D1150 multifunctional printer

Every since I purchase this D1150 in May 2009, I have used it daily. I connected it up first as a network printer for 5 home computers with different OS systems. As a network printer it is great on my network. But for the uses of scanning, faxing, copying photos, it requires an additional USB connection to one computer only. The other computers can’t make use of the other functions. The fax works great for me. Enjoying every page printed on it.
