The dual paper feeds are confusing and require careful set up. Unlike most printers, one of the feeds requires print side down. There is a considerable lag time between the print command and actual printing.

I bought this to replace an iP-5000 which gave excellent service for about 7 years. It is my third Canon printer. The iP-4280 is faster than the 5000, and the output quality is often so much better that I print a lot of things in fast (draft) mode. Photo printing seems to use more ink than needed, prints are very dark and dense, so a lot of adjustments are necessary until you learn what works best. Ink tanks are small, though, and a set of five at Canon's prices costs as much as the printer. I haven't used non-OEM ink...yet. But there are a number of alternative brands out there, with the requisite microchip. Also there are chip-reset devices that would allow you to refill tanks yourself. Paper handling from the rear feeder is better, too. Paper centers now, with easy sliding guides instead of the single, hard to move left-hand gadget on the 5000. I haven't tried envelopes yet. The menus under print properties are expanded, with more options in maintenance and a quick set-up menu for individual jobs. Overall, quiet and fast, with excellent quality output.

I use the printer for business invoices and for personal photos. It works great. A little difficult to set up, but after reading the directions (duh), installation went fine. Excellent photo printing.

Although this is my first photo printer i'd have to say that it is worth every penny! Very fast print times even with 8x10 photos and very little ink consumption. I have only had this printer for about two weeks but it's definately a great buy for the quality you get out of it. Photos look like they were professionally printed!

The auto duplex feature is FULLY AUTOMATIC, and works Pretty Fast. The inks are expensive but seems to last longer than the average printer. Photos are great. However, it seems that when you print on photo paper other than cannon's the pictures are too dark and reddish tone.
