Compliments my 70D DSLR very nicely. The M3 is a great size with lots of big features.

For the most part this is a great camera. I bought mine with both the optional electronic viewfinder as well as the EF lens adapter (great bundle price from Adorama). 24 megapixels and all my EF lenses work great on this camera using the adapter. The electronic viewfinder is a must-have for me because I like to use older, manual focus lenses at times. The viewfinder eliminates the glaring sun problem the rear LCD can often create. The digital zoom feature, which allows for both a 5X or 10X view is GREAT for helping insure perfect focus every time. So what's NOT to like? Not much...but sometimes small is just too small. In the case of the M3 the rear buttons are too easily hit by mistake, especially the one on the bottom right. It's frankly hard to hold the camera and NOT hit this button. The buttons themselves are poorly designed in that being flush with the camera body they provide almost no feel so you find yourself having to look at a button to make sure it's really the one you want to push. I would prefer that the camera be just SLIGHTLY bigger...big enough to allow for GOOD buttons with GOOD feel. After all, this really isn't a pocket camera once you put a lens on it. My only other wish list item would be for the camera to have image stabilization built into the camera. Yes, thanks to the EF lens adapter I CAN use my image stabilized Canon lenses...but how nice it would be if ALL of my lenses, even the old manual focus ones, could get the benefit of IS. Sony (A7II) and Olympus offer mirrorless cameras that have image stabilization built into the camera body...and I wish Canon would do the same.

This is a great camera. Bought for a back-up. Great image quality and features like the higher end canons. old and new lenses work great (with the right adapters). Video - no 4K, but the 1080 is beautiful. Highly recommend!

I have used the M3 for a few months and it is a great camera producing great pictures at an excellent price level. This is a upgrade for me unlike some of you are coming down from DSLR's. The camera is easy to carry and travel with and I don't see myself ever carrying a large DSLR as this camera does it all. I love it.

The M3 was purchased as a gift for my daughter. She enjoys the upgrade from the M2, noting that the camera has a quicker focus time and the color depth is richer. Enjoying macro photography, she appreciates the tilt screen for easier composition. She appreciates the option of using an electronic viewfinder too, especially since she prefers to go on photo shoots "as light as possible." It's great to know that this was a gift that will be used and appreciated for the cameras specs in covering her needs. :)

I previously owned a set of original EOS M cameras for use as video B-cameras on interview reels and corporate videos. I upgraded the B-cameras to a set of EOS M3's earlier this year and have been generally happy with the upgrade. The big pro's over the original EOS M's are that the M3's have a much better sensor, the LCD is now flexible (which is a lifesaver when using on a glidecam rig), and the in-camera adjustments are much more user-friendly. The M3 now allows for native focus peaking without the need to install Magic Lantern, which finally allows realistic use of manual FD lenses (the original M could use FD lenses with a converter, but without focus peaking, trying to pull focus on a tiny LCD was not realistic). I have found the peaking to be very accurate and the shots much improved on the M3. This camera seems to have more of that classic Canon midrange tone and matches up much better with DSLR shots than my original M. The battery life on the M3 is much improved over the original, though I still prefer aftermarket extended batteries. On the minus side, Canon still seems to lag the competition when it comes to video capture resolution. The Sony A7S and Panasonic G7 are in the same general class and both shoot 4k video in a compact, mirrorless setup, yet the Canon still tops out at 1080p @ 29.97fps. To shoot at 60fps, max resolution is 720. The lens selection is also rather slim, though with adapters, you can tap into the EF/EF-S range as well as classic FD lenses. It's still a huge improvement over the original M series. The M3 is larger, feels good in the hands, has more features and better picture, and is still a light and portable B-cam.

This is probably the best, underrated camera around. Especially when used with manual focus lenses. Starting off with a 24 meg sensor, and "focus peaking" from the video format. Throw in the DC-1 viewfinder (no clunky mirrorbox, and you have an 80D without the weight or size - that you can focus without a "screen".

I currently own a 5D with an assortment of canon lenses but also wanted a smaller grab & go camera to take along when out and about. When I saw there was an adaptor ring for EF lenses I figured the M3 would be a terrific compliment to my equipment. I bought the body, adaptor ring plus a 22mm S Lens. Maybe it's just me, but after years of shooting with the 5D, I find the M3 very confusing, slow and not much fun to shoot with. Granted, I've only had it for several months, so maybe I'll figure it out in time. One other annoying issue I have found, there is no way to use a cable release or wireless remote, from behind the camera. The RC6 wireless remote will only fire when pointed at the camera from in front of the lens. Here's my suggestion to Canon, take ALL the great features of the 5D figure it out and incorporate them into the M3. You'll have a winner.

Like very much. Faster focus than the first M. The EVF elect. view finder makes it a much better camera.

This camera is small but will do everything the larger DSLRs will do. All the functions you can ask for. I bought it in a bundle with the EVF and it makes it a lot easier for me to frame shots. I also bought the lens adapter so I can use all my EF- EFs lenses. If your use to a point and shoot then you won't have any problems with the large touch screen. Works good indoors and really great outdoors. I bought it to be a small shoot around camera to back up my larger DSLR

With this camera, you have to wonder-less... About whether or not to take it with you because it's too big/heavy, you have to wonder-less about exposure (good metering), wonder less about light (aps-c sensor, IE big for a small camera) you have to wonder less about price (cheap, especially on sale and lenses are cheap, think EF-M 11-22, the wonder-less about the price tag wide angle. Pros Large Sensor (great low light performance) Best in class metering (my 5D III is comparable!) Best in class EF-M optics (EF-M 22mm Pancake and EF 11-22 are two hit wonders; 18-55 EF-M is superior to EF-S and even non Canon equivalents, by a sizable margin in sharpness, distortion and CA) Many dials, dedicated exposure comp Touch screen Excellent out of camera JPEGs and RAWs (think no Photoshop needed for images to look great, Photoshop always helps though, but it's not required to get a great shot like competitors offerings) Pro grip Best in class video AutoFocus Cons No built in EVF (but it's on bundle sale right now for next to nothing, strongly recommended) Slow continuous RAW shootings (JPEG is fine) Video codecs highly limited, IE no 60FPS and no 4K. No 50mbit h.264 for that matter. Overall this is a camera that packs a punch way above it's class. If you're looking to travel light, but don't want to sacrifice image quality, this is an ideal choice. Video AF is great, as is the well placed audio pickups, but it's lack of higher end video options puts a damper on a would be excellent video camera, but I bought this for stills, and found myself using the video a lot, so much I wish for more... Which is one of the few things the competitors products have on it, but for stills, it's in it's own class.

This is a step up from the original M in terms of versatility and image quality for sure - especially the AF response. However, it is no longer compatible with the GP-E2 GPS, you can't geotag through the phone app, either. I can't understand why Canon didn't maintain accessory compatibility with the GP-E2, as it works with the M1 and M2. Also, there's no excuse for the new, expensive battery. I have a half dozen EOS M batteries and a travel charger that are now useless, for no reason I can see. The new battery isn't of significantly higher capacity. So, IQ and build 4/5, but docked two stars for lack of accessory/battery compatibility and no way to geotag.

EF-M optics are top notch optically and cheaper than competitors offerings. Metering is unmatched in it's class both against other Canon offerings and non Canon offerings. Excellent out of camera JPEGs and good DR on RAWs ISO performance superior to EF-S offerings and EOS M1/M2. CMOS AF III is good enough, but, looking forward to Dual Pixel when Canon gets around to it. Excellent second camera (I don't like hauling around a 5D III and L series optics for personal use, but don't want something that stinks either. I do recommend the EVF, if it's in your budget and you have more than one lens. Video IS and AF are great, but, limited bit-rate on video and audio codec prevents video from being stellar. Lack of 4K.

overall a nice travel companion with finally acceptable autofocus speed. Nice evf and nice tilting touchscreen display. Excellent also that I can use my L ensues on it if needed. Many nice features. Don't like: can't use my m1 spare batteries, have to buy new m3 ones. Price of tiny spare battery unacceptable. Wish list: A fast prime M3 L lens, to go really light on a travel. ( an 70-200 L 2.8 with eos m adapter is not really a size and weight reduction) m1 was a disappointment...but M3 is finally a quality canon camera again. M3 is always with me so I never miss a moment with 11-22mm 18-55mm EFS 55-250mm

Designed to inspire, the EOS M3 digital camera brings true EOS performance and image quality to a compact, stylish and elegant package. A pleasure to operate, with the sophistication to create stunning still and moving images, the EOS M3 is an ideal EOS for many applications, such as portraiture, landscape, travel and everything in between.
With its large 24.2 Megapixel APS-C sized CMOS sensor and DIGIC 6 Image Processor, the EOS M3 captures high-resolution images and Full HD movies suitable for most any application. Its lightweight, mirrorless body and interchangeable lenses add a whole new level of portability to the EOS system without compromising performance.
In addition to a number of dedicated EF-M Lenses, the EOS M3 is compatible with a range of EF* and EF-S* Lenses and Speedlites, has an optional shoe-mounted electronic viewfinder, wireless capabilities, plus numerous features designed for fun and fast image capture. The EOS M defies the assumption that compact means compromise, with performance and features photographers and moviemakers can rely on to help bring their creative ideas to life.
The power and versatility of EOS in a compact and stylish design.
Sleek, with the Power to Perform
Wonderfully lightweight and compact, the EOS M3 is both stylish and speedy while including a host of proven EOS controls. It can be appealing to anyone who appreciates a portable, mirrorless body but wants interchangeable lenses, a large sensor and the manual controls and image quality associated with the EOS line. Similarly, for photographers used to carrying larger SLR cameras who want something smaller as a companion or as a solo camera, the EOS M3 operates and performs similarly to SLRs in the EOS system. In addition to EF-M series Lenses, it's also compatible with a number of EOS accessories including EF Lenses*, Speedlites and more for powerful, seamless EOS operation that's incredibly portable.
The Power to Capture Stunning Movies and Photographs
24.2 Megapixel Sensor
The EOS M3 features a 24.2 Megapixel (APS-C) sensor capable of capturing large image and movie files. At 24.2 Megapixels, the EOS M's sensor delivers images suitable for enlargements with sufficient resolution for significant trimming. Whether making poster-sized prints, zooming in on a particular detail or making Full HD movies, the EOS M3's sensor is primed to deliver. An ISO range of 100-12800 (expandable to 25600) means images can be captured with low noise and high detail, even in dimly lit situations.
DIGIC 6 Image Processor
Complementing the EOS M3's CMOS sensor, Canon's DIGIC 6 Image Processor not only speeds up camera operations, but also helps enhance a number of the camera's advanced features. The DIGIC processor aids the camera's sensor in capturing detailed images with reduced noise at high ISOs and enables high-quality movie capture with a number of different movie compressions including MP4. On top of that, it enhances the camera's Dynamic Image Stabilization system and even helps improve the AF system's face detection accuracy.
Hybrid CMOS AF III helps provide fast and accurate focusing for stills and videos.
Consistent, Spot-on AF
A fusion of AF technologies designed to quickly achieve and maintain AF, the EOS M3's Hybrid CMOS AF III system is impressively fast, delivering comprehensive and accurate AF coverage over approximately 80% (vertical) and 70% (horizontal) of the entire image. With an optimized phase difference AF sensor built into the EOS M3's CMOS sensor's individual pixels, along with a secondary contrast detection system, the EOS M3's focus system is equipped to focus quickly and accurately in many situations.
Front Dial and Exposure Compensation Dial help provide full manual control and offer customizable functions as well as improved operability and ease of use.
Fast, Intuitive Controls
Capable of creating superb stills and movies automatically, the EOS M3 offers a number of control options for speedy manual operation. The camera features a Front Dial that's placed directly around the shutter button and is complemented by a dedicated Exposure Compensation Dial positioned within easy reach of the camera's thumb grip. In addition, the EOS M3 has numerous custom functions, including user-programmable shortcuts, customizable buttons and much, much more. It's comfortable to hold, with a fluid and ergonomic design that's familiar to EOS users.
More Operations at Your Fingertips
3.0" Tilt-type LCD Monitor
The EOS M3 has a large, high-resolution, 3.0" LCD monitor that tilts up 180° and down 45°, ideal for composing not only self portraits, but also for taking pictures at high and low angles with ease.
Intuitive Touch Screen for Selfies and Easy Menu Navigation
The EOS M3's touch screen is not just for defining AF points and for selfies! Designed to be accessible without hindering access to the lens and shutter button, the EOS M3's touch screen is fast and easy to use for many operations. With a Quick Control screen like those found on other EOS cameras and a number of functions superimposed over the image in a "U" pattern, settings are easily accessible without taking a finger away from the shutter or altering your grip on the camera. It's easy to change the camera's settings while maintaining the ability to quickly take a picture.
EOS Compatibility for Creative Control
While a number of lenses and accessories are designed specifically for the EOS M series, the EOS M3 is also fully compatible with over 70 of Canon's EF and EF-S Lenses plus other EOS accessories like Speedlites, Speedlite Transmitters and even Macro Ring Lites. Whether the EOS M3 is a primary or secondary camera, it boasts smooth compatibility with a wide range of EOS accessories.
Electronic Viewfinder (EVF-DC1) (Sold Separately)
In addition to its compatibility with EOS accessories and Speedlites, the EOS M3 is compatible with Canon's high-resolution Electronic Viewfinder EVF-DC1. Easily attached to the camera's hot shoe, the 2.36 Megapixel EVF-DC1 can tilt up 90°, and for photographers who wish to hold the camera up to their eye, it helps the EOS M3 deliver operation and feel similar to that of an SLR. Especially helpful in bright sunlight, or in situations where composing on the screen is not convenient, the EVF-DC1 can be an indispensible accessory for the EOS M3.
External Microphone Jack
