We bought it a year ago the fax was working initially but will not work recently. The error red LED flashing after receiving the fax, I have to turn-off then turn on the machine. If I am not there to reset the machine then the second person send the fax will be lost.

Good product when it works. But would not buy this gain. Continual problems...the printer function works decent, but often won't print. The scanner is a constant problem. Have installed and uninstalled the drivers and printer no less than 8-10 times. Still has problems.I shouldn't have to become a computer or printer expert to make something work!

Bad the fax has never worked on it, when printing many items at a time it starts printing ghosts, faded items from a previously printed page, which ruin later documents. This is not solved by cleaning the roller. Have had the techs come out change 100+ and solve nothing. I wont be trusting Canon if I ever have printer needs

This replaced my old Brother MFC 8810DW. The image quality is really good and I am pleased with the printer overall. Where it falls down is no PDF or downloadable manual, the manual is incredibly unhelpful. Unless I am missing some instructions the only way I have found to use the front feeder is to pull out the bottom feeder tray to disengage it. My Brother printer just automatically pulled paper from there if I put some in it. The Brother scanned front and back in one pass, the Canon pulls the paper through twice. None of this is a problem for me but I thought I would mention it. I had to call Canon technical support when I first got the printer and they were easy to reach and very helpful. So far I am finding it to be a really good printer and I would recommend it.

I bought this on the recommendation of Staples and hate the machine. Will never purchase again. Printed out the operating manual, literally 800 pages for a simple machine.

It looks perfect. But there are a lot of bugs inside. Whenever you want to print a file, it just give you a sound and doesn't print anything. You have to call Canon and Canon will tell you it is your file problem not their machine problem. LOL Great answer.

The first one I received didn't last a week before it died. The replacement arrived in a timely fashion .. great customer service; however, this one is dying after less than a year in service. It stops printing .. I have to turn it off to reset it. It smells hot after I print about 50 pages so I have to turn it off so it will cool off. I'm looking for a new one. This would propbably be okay if you don't print a lot.

I received this printer as a free sample in exchange for agreeing to write a review. This printer was easy to install and setup. I was able to locate and connect to my network easily to use the wireless feature. I was able to setup the fax and use the MF Scan Utility to scan various documents easily. My favorite feature is that the printer can conveniently be connected to a mobile device. I like that I can use my cell phone or tablet to print documents. This printer meets my quality expectation as a all in one printer. I can print, scan, copy and fax documents. I have the option to connect directly to the printer or use the wireless feature. I was able to scan my driver license front and back on one sheet. I like that there's an option in the printer driver settings to use less toner when printing documents. I'm able to use the paperless fax feature without having to print the document before I can fax it. I love this printer but found that when the Direct Connection feature is enabled, that you can no longer print or scan from the PC until it is disabled. I recommend this printer to friends and family. My overall impression is that this is a great product.

I have found that this printer is best for those looking for a fairly compact, all-in-one product for a home office. It effectively prints scans, and copies for personal or professional use - more bulk than your standard home printer but the features make up for it! I found it easy to install and connect to WiFi, though it took some effort to connect (dependably to Apple AirPrint. Print quality and speed is great though; Wifi printing is a huge gain. Overall I have not had much difficulty using the product. Paper tray somewhat small but minimal jams. Replacement laser cartridges fairly expensive. Written by a user who received a free sample for providing an open and honest review of the product.

I received this printer for free in order to form an impartial opinion and give an unbiased review. When it first arrived, I was surprised at the size! I was expecting a small, desktop printer, and this one seems similar to larger ones used at my work. I was excited to give it a try! The packaging was handled very nicely, and it arrived safe and sound. I'd suggest having someone help you ease it out of the box, as it is a little heavy. I managed to get it out myself, but I was worried it would slip out all of a sudden and I'd break it. Not the case :) Once out of the box, there were numerous pieces of tape and styrofoam scattered around the printer. There are also numerous reminders to make sure you get them all out! The printer itself will even remind you once you get it turned on! It was pretty easy to get everything off and ready to go. Then it came time to install the software! I have a MAC, so the instruction manual told me to go to a website to download it. The directions were a little off as to how the website is currently set up, but not so different that I couldn't still figure it out. I basically just hit Drivers and typed in my model number, and it showed me exactly what to download. Here is where I faltered a little bit. It popped open with an option for a folder and another icon. I clicked the icon and wasn't sure if that was right. Turns out it was! I double checked to make sure it was in my Applications, and it was! So that went a little easier than I expected. Next up was connecting my computer to the printer. I decided to go the wireless route. All I had to do was connect my router to my printer, and type my password in. I've actually never print anything from my home laptop, so it was a new experience. I hit print, and it easily let me find the printer. It was obviously the only one. When it came to printing, I put some paper in, and it said it was jammed twice. It offered up a nice step by step guide, but I couldn't figure out why it said it was jam when I didn't see a jam. I ended up opening the drawer and saw that there was a small gap between the paper and the movable guides that hold the paper tight. I moved that to be right up against the paper, and then there wasn't another problem! As soon as I printed the first thing, I wiped my finger on it immediately to see if the ink would smear. It didn't! Copying was easy as well. Just make sure that you have the to be copied paper face up! There's a little diagram to remind you. I like the touch screen, although I wish it was just a little bit larger. It's big enough to click what you need though. Overall, I've really enjoyed this printer! It prints very quickly and neatly, and it collates!

Overall, after having received this product as a free sample to review, I think this printer has a lot of great, positive features and deserves a solid rating. The printer is on the more expensive side, but definitely delivers for its price point. I loved the wifi printing and felt that the quality of printing I received was much better then other printers. The only complaint I have is that the printer is on the noisier side, and is rather large, taking up a large portion of my home office space. This might be best suited for a small business. My favorite feature was definitely the wifi printing and ability to print almost anywhere in my house. The product was easy to assemble and was basically ready out of the box. One caveat; it was rather heavy so you might need another person to assist. In terms of improvement, I would recommend Canon to install methods for noise reduction. Regardless, I would definitely recommend to friends and family.

First off, let me state that I received this printer for free in return for my honest opinion. So, now, let's get to the review: Upon receiving the box, I was surprised because it was HUGE. Gigantic! Next, taking the printer out of the box was difficult because the materials are packed extremely tight. It definitely is a lot easier with two people. I managed to do it on my own by laying the box on its side and eventually, slowly wiggling it out. Next: Unpacking the printer. This part was easy for the most part, though the tape on the back of the paper tray looked like it should be pulled out of the back of the try. Turns out that it needs to be removed from the front. That task, while somewhat insignificant, was confusing and not well-documented in the instructions (which, by the way, are ONLY illustrations without any explanatory text). Using the machine: The menu on the front panel is great! I was able to navigate it very easily, and on the first set-up, I was able to connect to my router and print. The quality of the printing is AWESOME! I then tested the scanner and specified using the color option, and the saved file looked great when I reviewed it on my computer monitor. Nice. The installation of the software was a breeze, and printing from my computer was very easy. Before receiving the printer, I had been in the process of changing the layout of my home office. So, after setting up the printer, I decided to move it to a different location. I took the router offline and turned off, unplugged and moved the printer. After doing so, the printer would NOT connect back to the router. All of my other devices had no problem reconnecting, this printer kept displaying "CHECK THE PSK SETTINGS," which told me nothing. I searched on the Internet for an answer, and I couldn't find any information. Next, I tried hard-wiring using the Ethernet cable, and the printer still would not connect. Not a good thing. Finally, I copied the file I wanted to print onto a USB drive and plugged that into the printer. It navigated to the USB very well but would not recognize the .png file. Later, my spouse wanted to see whether it's possible to print from our iPad without having to read any of the instructions. My spouse uses a lot of tech devices and is fairly tech savvy, but the process was not user-friendly and this test failed. No go on easy mobile-device connectivity. Basically, this printer is a super high-quality printer, but it has significant connectivity issues.

First of all, I was sent this printer at no cost and asked to provide an honest and unbiased review. I use several different types of printers/copiers daily between work and my school/personal use at home. I would say that the Canon “imageClass MF414dw” would be best suited for the work environment where use is for function rather than fun. It is very easy to set up. It comes with software on CD for PC users. Mac users are referred to their website for downloading software/driver which I had to do and the process was simple enough. Once the printer receives the information, which can take up to a few minutes, it prints very quickly. Images and text are printed with high quality, albeit in only black and white. It would be nice if this level of printer would at least have the option to utilize color. This is a higher quality printing machine, but as I mentioned previously about being better for function, it is good at what it is meant for… simple mass production. A few annoying quirks came up early… starting with the instructions. The manual does not include any words for initial set-up. There are only pictures and arrows, and until you are more familiar with the printer, this takes a while to acclimate to. Next, when I tried to scan for the first time, I was unable to do this from the printer itself. I had to initialize this process from the computer end… to be fair, this is something I run into often with many different types and brands of printer. At this level of a printer, however, I’d expect it to work both ways. After this, I attempted to increase the scan resolution. This resulted in the message “waiting for the scanner” which never loaded. This happened at several various resolution settings that I attempted to change it to. Finally, a possibly fatal error message came up on the printer: “Turn the main power OFF and ON. E743-0000 If the device does not recover, contact your dealer or service representative”. The printer did come back on and seem to recover as normal; however this is very disconcerting of a message to have come up within the first day of use. (See picture. Another annoyance for me was that while there is a touch screen, there is no keyboard – only a number pad which you have to continuously push buttons to get to the letter you need similar to texting on a flip-phone. Archaic! Conclusion – this is a beast at simple mass production… but that’s about all.

This printer definitely meets all of my needs. I should mention that I received this item for free for providing an open and honest review of the product. Set-up was simple...just removing tape and the packing materials from the entire product, plugging it in and then following the prompts on the screen to set language, time, date, etc. I was able to easily connect with my wi-fi by pressing the button on my router. The scanner works well and my picture was sent to me via email, which is a nice feature. The printing function is also excellent. It prints quickly and clearly and so far no issues with paper jams or anything like that. I will say that it is a pretty large printer, but it does a lot, so I suppose that is to be expected. Also, the power cord is not very long, so, depending on your home office set up you may need an extension cord. I appreciate the easy wireless set up and the option to use a usb to print from or scan to. This is a great option for an all-in-one printer for the home office.

I received a free sample of this printer to review, but all opinions are truthful and mine alone. Upon receiving this printer, my first thought was "Wow, that's huge!" I couldn't lift it on my own but once it was in place, setup was very simple. I had to download drivers from the Internet as I didn't have a CD drive but once I did, the printer was installed quickly. It runs fairly quietly and printing is very quick and clear. However, I did notice a couple of flaws. When copying, the copy is a bit squished from left to right. It is not an exact copy of the text. I thought this was very odd. Also, I still haven't been able to make scan to email work. What I thought was awesome about this printer was how quickly and seamlessly I was able to print from my phone (Samsung Galaxy S4). With my former printer, you had to download a special app and even though it did not always work. To print a PDF, I simply clicked "print" and chose the printer which my phone found immediately. BAM! Out came the document. As I don't always like to bother with my computer at home, I find this feature priceless. Other highlights that I like about this machine is the two sided scanning option. The feeder is quick and hasn't jammed yet. I also copied a photo to check quality and considering it only prints with black ink, it was pretty darn good. Overall, this printer seems to be a winner - especially for the price point, I feel it is a good choice for anyone who prints at home or work on a regular basis. Heck, it's actually better than the printer we have at work (I work at a tech startup so we have low-end things!). Keep in mind that this printer is very large, so you'll want to consider your space when deciding on a printer.

This printer does a wide variety of things that you need to have done in a office, It comes together in one piece, setup is easy comes with instructions. The printer Copies, Scan, Fax, Memory media print, Copy ID card, Security setup and it have a address book also various different languages and paper type. If you have a big office this printer is perfect because you can do so much and store so much info in it for when ever you need something printed or faxed to a certain person or who ever where ever they are saves you time. I have a small home office but I like this printer because it is quiet, quick print, smooth and goes into energy saver mode when not using. I received this product as part of the STARS research experience for my honest opinion.

This appears to be the replacement to the older Canon MF5100 & MF6100 series as it looks almost identical and uses the same 911/911 II cartridge. The input screen has been updated to a touchscreen and installing the software drivers is relatively easier than before. It's bulky and only has 1 paper tray that barely holds 1 ream but it works, for the most part. The copier works relatively well, don't use the fax but it's available, the scanner is OK while the included software is barely manageable but it works! The unit is NOISY as HECK which Canon has NOT FIXED! There's TOO much plastic and does feel cheap! Be careful as the settings are somewhat tricky if you want to use both the wireless AND the USB cable settings. The online printing feature is difficult to figure out! The unit is NOT Twain compatible so you can NOT use it with any other software except for Canon's own software, especially if you want to use the scanning feature. You'll need to install Canon's software on ALL the computers if you want to use it on a network and use its proprietary software. Otherwise, you can just install the print driver only (on every computer) if printing is the Only feature that want to use on the network. The MF414dw has been replaced by the MF416dw which is NOT worth the upgrade. Buy the former as it's marked down for clearance and a better value. Hopefully, the unit will be durable like the older MF5100/MF6100 series which I've used in the past. Unfortunately, the ink cartridges are Expensive and the High Yield 911 II appears to be ONLY available ONLINE as many stores do NOT carry them! The extra paper tray is hard to find though it's may be worth it for those who does a lot of printing.

If I hadn't discarded the packaging I would have returned it. With all the time I've spent wrestling with this machine it's been a costly process. I've had issues with it destroying document through the feeder and when trying to print both sides. I've had ERROR issues that just seem to come and go. The software is poor. There isn't and options to adjust scans. I'll leave it at that , I've already wasted enough time....
