Worked like a champ for 7 years then decided to die with a b200 error. Could not fix it. Wished I could have bought another of the same model. Went with a new Maxify MB2720.

Faxing ability seems to be a lost art on modern multi-function printers. This one has it all. 3 years running with no problems!

I've had a PC since 1997 and have always used a multi-function printer. Over the years, I've had several different brands of printers. Some have been good for 2 - 3 years; some seemed to suddenly become dead junk in my office within a few weeks after the warranty expired. I had 2 printers do the latter back to back before I decided to give Canon a try. I looked at available models at the local office supply, then hit the internet to make my final selection. I purchased the PIXMA MX870 on March 2, 2009. This printer still works as well as it did when I took it out of the box. I love the auto-duplex features, especially printing. The scanner produces great quality documents and photos on both copy and import functions. The ink usage seems lower than some of the other printers I've owned. I use the printer every day, and have done several large print jobs (over 7,000 pages . The quality of the printing just is the best I've seen in a printer. I have found that if I'm printing duplex , there is less problems with bleed through over the long term with at least 28 lb paper.

My (2) Canon Multi-purpose printers suit my needs perfectly. If I want Office quality functions, I have them; If I only want to capture pictures for printing, I have it; Coping scanning and household functions are there for me so I have the best of all my worlds. I only have one minor complaint, I worry that my printer will go out of style when the Windows industry makes changes and updates are a thing of the past for my model.

This printer was problematic within the first 3 months of ownership. I only used it for printing emails and documents. Printing speed very slow, it ate color ink cartridges very quickly and I could only print 1 page at a time before an error screen would appear causing me to power off, then power on in order to print pages 2 and beyond. I was constantly contacting Canon for trouble shooting. Finally after only 3 yrs of ownership, it died. A complete waste of my money.

It does the job ok. WiFi set was easy I have had this printer for a while now. I had to buy it in a pinch and it was cheap...that said, I've easily spent 3x on ink since purchase. The inks are small and expensive. Look into a printer's toner yield before making a purchase. The printer is cheap, but they more than making up for it on replacement toner.

My last printer from canon lasted 8 years and was very sturdy. This one is a piece of junk, made out of cheap plastic material. It feels and performs like a printer you would get at a dollar store. Very upset, I was looking for the most expensive multi-function printer that takes 5 inks and this happened to be the only one at the store. I figured...well, its a canon, how bad can it get, but it seems that their printers can get worse over time.

Bought one of these printers about a year ago, and have been using it pretty much constantly. The scanner function is excellent, the print quality is outstanding, and I really like both the duplex printing function and the ability to load letterhead type paper in the back and auto-select. The only minor issue is the cost of the ink tanks, although it does last for a good long while on the large black tank. It is possible to refill tanks with a little reprogrammer, and with that it's the most incredible value ever. But even if you just buy their ink, it's an excellent printer.

We previously had a Canon MP830. Two things I can say about this printer is that it is not ergonomically designed. I have accidently shut if off while lifting the lid because the on/off swith is too close to the edge of the lid. Also, I sit to the left of the printer and it seems to unpleasantly pinch my thumb every time I let down the lid. This printer will print on both sides of the copy paper. It will not scan both sides of the original paper.

The ink runs out constantly. i can't keep black ink in it and I wouldn't consider my volume high.

We purchased this unit about a year ago and it does everything we need. I've seen other reviews complain about WIFI issues, but we have had no problems. The one issue I do have that others have noted is that if you run out of a colored ink it wont print at all, even in black and white, which is a poor design. Ran into that issue once and now just make sure i have backup ink in all colors.

I've had this printer for approximately an year and have had nothing but trouble with printing/scanning on a network. Canon's ijnetwork software is completely unreliable when used in a Mac network environment. Other printers, utilizing the Bonjour communications, work just fine. Canon has issued several driver updates over the course of my ownership but the problem persists. They need to just replace ijnetwork with Bonjour and get on with it.

I have had some issues with this printer. However, I can say it is terribly frustrating that if a color cartridge goes EMPTY, YOU CANNOT USE YOUR MACHINE. Ugh on the night of a closing on a home I surely didn't need to have this happen at 11pm! Won't recommend this machine to anyone.

I have been using the MX870 for over a year, in a SOHO setting with a landscape designer + two school kids. This printer produces quality output at reasonable speeds. All of the basic functions are flawless, if perhaps a bit unwieldy, at least until you get familiar with the work flow. I am writing at this point because of, and to confirm the WiFi issue raised by numerous reviewers. Infrequently but out of nowhere the MX870 will lose signal, (go offline or not respond and it is frustrating. WIN7 troubleshooting is of little help; it suggests you change the default printer to the Fax profile? Huh? I did find a KnowledgeBase suggestion that has worked for me: power the printer off-on, and then do the same with your router. The printer queue gets right to work on any suspended documents, like nothing was ever wrong. If only the pretty little blue WiFi lamp doubled as some kind of a re-set button...

First of all I LOVE this printer... when it works. What I mean by that is that the wireless connectivity is very dodgy. Sometimes I can ping the printer but it shows offline and won't print. Sometimes after 5 minutes it starts printing and sometimes it never prints (in wireless mode). I've reinstalled it several times, and I've been working in the networking field for 15 years, so I'm pretty sure I've set it up correctly. So if you are going to directly connect it to your machine, this is one of the best printers I've ever owned. If you plan on working with it wirelessly, I'd pass and maybe try another Canon model that doesn't have as many problems with the wireless connectivity.

This is one purchase I seriously regret making. I purchased this because it claimed to be WIRELESS capable. It is not. The connection drops repeatedly. In the middle of print job the printer stops and tells me it cannot connect to the printer. Huh? Some days it works sometimes it doesn't even when it shows that it is properly wireless connected. I spent 3hours trying to print something yesterday morning before giving up. This morning the printer woke up and printed the item from yesterday. Again there is no rhyme or reason to when the printer works and the canon updates, software and support sites are all useless. If you ever want to use this printer in wireless form you will be sorely disappointed. PS My computer savvy brother has spent time helping me with this issue and told me that this printer is defectively engineered and will never work properly. I will never purchase another Canon printer.

If you do not want to shell out for a color laser multifunction, the Canon PIXMA MX870 is the Absolute Solution to your home office needs. It's loaded with almost every feature you could possibly need. To name a few; Auto Duplex, Wireless & other connections, Auto Sheet Feeder, Color Fax, Copy Print & Scan, Borderless Photo Printing, Memory Card Reader, 2 Paper Loaders, Pass Through To Add A Telephone, & Many Customizable Settings. 5 individual cartridges allows you to only have to replace the cartridge that runs out, not the whole cartrige that still has 2 colors in it, saving money & ink. It's a truly awesome deal & as you can tell, I highly recommend it.

Good unit for the price but has a major problem in selection features. The 850 model was mor user friendly but thought that this wireless feature might be useful. Major problem is the information manual that comes with the unit. I was fortunate being that I had the 850 unit and was familiar with the the box but it stops there. First time buyers would have a major problem understanding the manual. The on line manual could use help also.

I have worked with many printer brands over the years and Canon has always given consistant quality for the money. I don't understand the problems that some people are having as I bought 2 of these porinters (1 was refurbished) and have no problems with connectivity (or any of the other reported problems) be it wireless, wired to the usb, or on a network (and all 3 methods are easy to hook up, simply insert the disk that comes with it and follow directions.) I also print on many types of paper media from high quality cloth based, to slick glossy, to photo glossy, to cheap paper; using from greyscale, to high quality, I print using black and color modes, and duplex mode and never have any print problems of fuzzy letters. Printing is always crisp and clear no matter the mode nor the paper.( however with slick photo one does have to make the settings match lest one allow tooo much ink for the paper and that will possibly smear) I recommend that 1) they talk to canon tech service to resolve the connectivity problems or 2) if canon tech service determines it is faulty then they send it back for repair while it is under warranty. As for running out of a inks , particularly color it is only 1 color . When a multicolor tank is out of only one color, it may as well be out of all colors as the entire tank must be replaced regardless of how many colors are still good, Replacing a multicolored tank, is indeed much costlier compared to replacing only a one color tank. This is a great multitask printer whose features are quickly acessed, and works reliably and it is great for home business or professionals

I have owned several Canon printers since Canon leaped ahead of other brands in quality and customer service a decade ago. Each has been an improvement on the last, but all have provided great value. This model prints, copies, and scans faithfullly, the utility software is very good, and the choice of wired, wireless or networked is nice. I am using it in USB mode but will shift to networked mode eventually. The color accuracy and resolution is very good for this price range. I have not experienced the performance issues raised by some, and I have to wonder whether the selection of drivers may be a factor. The only improvements one could reasonably hope for are a still better user interface, and inks that set after drying and do not bleed when accidentally exposed to water drops. In fairness, these problems exist with most inkjet printers, regardless of brand. Canon's customer service is first rate. I have experienced this personally, as have several others whom I have assisted with technology.

I purchased this printer at a good price however, you will pay it back many times over because the ink has to be replaced often. 2-3X more often than my old printer. The printer no longer works as heads are clogged and will no longer print anything even though there is ink. Often will not print if one black ink is low and there is still ink in it.

Had this printer for 8 months. Magically the printer is having all sorts of networking problems. Direct connect or Wireless. Gets IP address from router, able to print but eventually Cannons own software cannot find the printer even when you can ping the device with the Command facility. How can I see the printer and print a test page but Cannon's utilities cannot. I can print test pages but cannot scan a document to a computer on the network. Printing eventually goes away as well. I have completely reset my network, firmware updates to all routers, driver updates, etc. Dumped a huge amount of my personal time into troubleshooting this problem. Problem continues to exist. I believe you're purchasing a 12 month product that you will need to replace.

It's performance is slow, it decides when it wants to print and when not.....printing orders has to be given several times before it reacts. It's wiFi connection is lousy... It also has a cheap feel to it, especially the buttons.

I have used several other all-in-one printers and yet found myself always going back to purchasing a Canon all-in-one printer. This will be my third printer. I'm glad to see I can purchase this printer at a lesser cost, then when I previously purchased at the original price. I prefer the Cannon's, they are certainly printer friendly, if you know what you're doing and read the instructions. Regarding fast print speed, "it would be great if it had more speed to offer." Having individual ink cartridges is definitely a plus for me. High Ink Comsumption using the 220 Black can be rather costly. This purchase doesn't replace one I already have, its in addition to it.

I needed the MX870 for a home office. The business has not been launched yet but I have used all the features other than fax. It does everything very well, copying, printing, scanning, and all double sided. For SOME operations it's slow. Considering the price, that's a small penalty to pay for otherwise excellent performance. Setup was easier than the user manual would have you believe. The manual looks like you need to connect it with a USB cable, THEN set up the wireless. Not true. Just remove all the packing stuff, plug everything in, run the installation disc, and follow the routine. Done! (Assuming you have already set up your wireless network)

Very impressive output
By Jeff
I'm very impressed with the graphics output. I bought this printer to do home marketing for my business. Brochures, logos, business cards. Very happy to know I can get a professional look with this printer at home. The pictures look as good as paying to have them developed. Great!!
Auto Duplex Scanning/Copying
By Jeff
This little unit is amazing. It truly is an all-in-one unit because it does everything. My favorite feature is the automatic duplex scanning. Just throw a stack of papers in the feeder and it does all the work. As a teacher, I constantly need to scan double-sided documents and just for this feature alone, the MX870 is more than worth the money. (Many other manufacturers offer duplex printing on their all-in-ones, but not duplex scanning). I was skeptical because this unit is so inexpensive, b...
