Shopper : Does this camera have built in wifi?KEVIN H : No it does not.LORRAINE E : No it's way too old for that. The camera body is pre-wifi and there have been no updates to the bios either. Unfortunately, while it's one of the smallest SLRs available Canon has abandoned it. There has never been a version 2, which is a real shame because it's so much easier to carry than all the other Canon SLRs.
Shopper : Wifi capable?? How do you connect to Internet??MARY F : I really like this camera especially the touch screen. However to my knowledge it doesn't have wi-fi capabilities or a way to get online.CHHUNAK K : No, this camera does not have WiFi. I would suggest you look at the new EOS M series.JAMES T : No, the SL1 isn't WiFi capable. The only way you can connect it to the internet is to take the photos or videos and take the SD card out of the camera and use a card reader. My computer has an SD card slot right in the front.CARLOS M : No, the SL1 is not WIFI capable. There's no way to connect it to the InternetJAMES H : It does not have a built-in capacity to connect to the internet.William G : Cable tv

No Back Button Focus

I was so disappointed to discover that there is no back button focus on the T8i. If I had known, I would never have purchased this camera. It never crossed my mind that this feature would be deleted.

All around great camera

I bought this camera right after Christmas because it was on sale for my sister. I’ve used it a few times since then and have really enjoyed the camera. I think it would be a good camera for someone who is newer to DLSR photography. The battery life and the image quality are great. I like that the camera is a little more light weight than some of my others.

Easy to learn.

I’ve taken about 500 pictures in my first week of owning the camera and have been really happy with the quality for price paid.

Amazing camera!!!

I bought this a year ago, and love this camera SO MUCH. It is never slow, always has amazing quality photos, and I love using this with my EFS 18-55mm lens. Super easy to take anywhere, and the touch screen makes it super easy to use.

Great camera

I bought this camera when it first came out. I used it very rarely. My friend borrowed it for one year. Then, 3 weeks ago my daughter and I went to Bali, Indonesia and I brought this camera. Whoa! I didn't know how good this camera is. It's just perfect the camera: the size, the quality of pictures and number of shooting options available. Just now, I upgraded it's firmware to 1.0.1 and I am eager to get out a shoot some more... I strongly recommend this camera.

Best I've ever owned

My girlfriend surprised me at Christmas and gifted me this camera. She knew I was too frugal to buy one on my own. I guess she got tired of hearing me gripe about the mediocre pics I was taking with my phone and old Olympus digital. The Canon Rebel is a terrific camera. I was also suprised with a separate Canon 75-300 mm telephone lens which I use frequently, and often use it for fairly close-up shots. The camera features a seemingly infinite number of settings and options. I've committed seven or eight settings to memory, from frequent use. Admittedly, for many of the advanced settings and for rare configuration needs, I have to consult the manual. The photos are easy to download from the camera. I'm constantly being complimented for pics that I post. I can't wait until the leaves are out on the trees where I live so that I can start taking shots without the background being dominated by grays, whites and blacks!

Good compact camera for travel

I'm a professional photographer, but I don't always want to carry my backpack full of gear when I'm travelling. This camera is a really nice solution for personal travel trips. It's got some really nice features and is small enough to through in a small case. My wife has even used it as a backup camera for weddings.

Great beginner camera

This was my first DSLR. It is a great little camera. The hand grip is small, but the camera is so light that I never found it uncomfortable. I love how compact it is, because it makes it easy to take in anywhere.

Compact and fun to use

I've owned a T2i, aT5, and an SL1. The SL1 is my favorite due to its compactness. Easy to use, but has all the tools I need in terms of customization. A great buy!

Love this camera package!

I bought this camera package for each of my 2 children. They are 15 years old and had just taken an introductory photography class, so they each wanted a camera for Christmas. This seemed like a good basic package for a beginner to start with. When it arrived the quality of everything in the package lived up to my expectations. The camera and lenses worked well and all of the accessories worked well together. I am jealous and considering trading in my 10-year-old cannon digital camera and upgrading to this package. By the way, the kids could not have been more excited and pleased. Kudos to Adorama!

A lot of performance for a light little camera

This is the perfect take along camera when you need speed and good handling. It works well with the EF-S 18-55 IS STM kit lens and the EF-S 55-250 IS STM telephoto lens. Don't let the the plastic build fool you into thinking those are Not good quality lenses. They are very good and perfect for this camera. Paired with the SL1 you have a very good take along kit because it's small, light and Fast! The EF-S 24mm STM and EF 40mm STM are also very small pancake lenses and work well with this camera. The video good too and the screen refresh rate is very fast. Not sure how many frames per second but doesn't flicker when panned. I know the specs rate the HD at 30 frames per second but the screen refresh may be faster. I know it's faster than my 60D, 70D and EOS M. Speaking of the EOS M, the SL1 uses the same battery. The primary reason I bought the SL1 was there were times my EOS M's autofocus couldn't get the shot due to the subject moving. When using the 55-250 lens with the EF to EF-M adapter, the M is clumsy to use. However I'm keeping my EOS M. It has it's place too. Image quality wise the SL1 is the same as the EOS M and 70D. Excellent! Maybe just very slightly better than the 60D, the SL1 being a little newer model. Auto focus using the viewfinder is quick and accurate. Using the screen in live view is pretty fast in general. There are options to grab focus from most of the screen (80% or you can touch a section of the screen to focus on. Almost as fast as my 70D's dual pixel AF. The touch screen is quick and responsive too. Touch shutter is nice to use when using a tripod. Works well with external Canon flashes.

Gift for my daughter

I gave an SL1 to my daughter as a gift. She is a beginner so it will provide her with plenty of growing room as she learns. I have used a Rebel T2i for 6 years so I was pleased to find many aspects of the SL1 were more advanced than what is provided by my T2i. The SL1 body is very small and is not a good fit for any photographer with moderate to large hands. That is not a problem for my daughter. The shutter is quite quiet compared to what I am used to. The SL1 is not the be-all-and-end-all of DSLRs, nor is it intended to be, but the current pricing is great for what it provides to the beginning or hobbyist photographer.

Excellent Camera

I have always loved Canon, I owned a Powershot A620 when it was released in 2005, but soon failed on me in 2013. Then I recently upgraded my camera in 2015 w/ EOS Rebel SL1 & the quality is still high grade just like my older canon. The freatures & settings it has delivers AMAZING professional photo quality without even photo shopping it. It captures the beauty of nature in Hawaii so perfectly. : love this camera. Highly recommend buying this if this will be your first professional camera. Big Tip, read the instruction manual on each of the setting so you can capture great pictures. :)

Basic SLR

Extremely lightweight, almost to a fault. Just doesn't have the feel of a serious SLR camera...I have had over 8 Canon SLR's over the years, and this is the first one that I don't feel was worth the price. If the end result is what counts, then I suppose it meets better than average standards, but construction wise I'm not sure how durable this model will be. Should have paid more and got a better current model.

Excellent little package

Size and weight are the camera's best features. Picture quality, color, and sharpness are stellar, on par with canon's pro cameras (5d, 1d x, etc.). The only technical shortcoming is the camera's AF is not as advanced as the pro canon cameras; only has 9 AF points. However, the additional AF points and faster AF speed are only necessary for sports and wildlife. As an everyday, go everywhere, travel, family, portrait camera, I'd rather carry less weight and bulk offered by the SL1.

Great Product

The product came like it was brand new. It did come in a box that wasn't meant for my camera like the box had a name of a different camera so that was weird. The camera was well packaged and kept safe though. The camera works great. Love the touch screen and love all the features. Its a a great buy for great price! I have a powershot IS400 which has a 35 optical zovom and 16 mega pixels. It was a good camera but this blows it away. The pictures come out so clear and great low light pictures. The one thing I miss is a further zoom but am going to get a 75-300m Lens. Once I get that my powershot will barely see use. I like that the camera body is compact and you still get such great shots. This near a profesional level camera. The price is unbelievable. You are getting this product for such a steal.

The Go To system

I have an older 1D, a refurbished 5D, a brand new 7D, a Canon 2000, and a couple of others from days gone by. (I go all the way back to the original Rebel, littering my family with older 40's and 50's... What I pack in my field kit is the SL1... and a SPARE SL1 body. This camera is quick, it is easy, it does the job. Less frills and bells and whistles than the heavier (much heavier) pro versions, but then I'm not out there to SHOOT something for publication every day, which doesn't mean I don't stumble across something I just have to shoot. When I do -- out comes the SL1.... If I'm not taking a grip, gaffer, lighting truck, and if I'm not calculating depth of field, precision exposures, and precise resolution then I have NO NEED of one of my (HEAVIER!) cameras. This camera excels in anything you aren't shooting for publication, and CAN be used for publication in a pinch. It's terrific for planning, for testing, for conceptualizing, for storyboarding, for precision angles, for ANYTHING that doesn't require the full field team. It CAN be used to shoot video, it CAN be used for publication. it's 99 percent of the pro systems and if that 1 percent isn't important then it's perfect for everything. Shooting pictures for the college class handouts I do (for photography and video classes)... Check! Shooting conceptualization shots... CHECK! Shooting test shots for lighting angles and intensities... CHECK! And people it is LIGHT!!!! as in NOT HEAVY. I add it to my L- lenses and it's like looking at a frog that's grabbed a 747 with it's tongue! (I typically set one up with at least one of the L lenses on a tripod -- just in case situation.) It would be ridiculous if it didn't work. It can pack INSIDE your suitcase. Add this to a Tamron 18-200 mm Di III lens and you have a FULL KIT IN ABOUT THREE POUNDS! On a professional note it's like carrying a backup revolver in combat. You will never need it until you need it badly and then it's going to do JUST what it's designed to do and it is NOT GOING TO FAIL YOU! Rough, tough, stable, inexpensive, and the batteries last FOR HOURS!!!!

Perfect Camera

I am an amateur photographer and have been taking photos as long as I can remember. I bought this camera back in 2013 around the time when it just came out. I can not say enough how wonderful this camera is and how much it has exceeded my expectations. It works in every way that I've wanted it to from slowing down the shutter speed to take lighting pictures to taking clear quality photos at sporting events. It still continues to amaze me how wonderful the pictures turn out. With having smaller hands, being lightweight and smaller in size compared to other DSLR's is perfect and it doesn't make me feel that I don't have complete control of the camera. Perfect in every way and it will not disappoint!

Nice camera

I purchased this in Dec of 2015 and I didn't know it at the time but it was defective. Whenever I would hold my finger down to take many pictures at a time it would start out taking them fast and then get slower and slower and then to the point I would have to stop taking the pictures. I'm sending it in for repair and hope that will help. This is a nice camera but I don't know if I will ever master it. I have been taking pictures for over 40 years with all types of point and shoot cameras but this camera I can take pictures, with the same setting, and one will turn out good and the other one is terrible. I don't know what the problem is. I have researched the settings for different types of pictures and I still can't master it. I would recommend this camera to someone that wants to spend ALL their time trying to master it.

Exactly what I was looking for

By Liz

I recently recieved my Canon Rebel SL1 and I couldn't be happier! I was previously shooting with a Rebel t2i and was looking for a newer one to bring with me to college. I was immediatly drawn to the small size but was warry of the quality that might have been skipped out on as well. When I went to try it out at my local camera shop I was plesently surprised to learn that despite being much smaller, it still feels solid in my hands. I was also thrilled to see that the specs were identical if ...

Great camera!

By Talltom

I recently picked up a refurb'd Rebel SL1 on a recent sale and it has been an excellent camera. It arrived in very good packaging and looks brand new. Even my wife was impressed on the condition of the camera and lens. I have been snapping away with it and the pictures are amazing while the size of the camera is small enough to hang off to my side and not be a bother. I'm really glad I picked it up and plan on purchasing refurb's lenses in the future.

CANON EOS REBEL SL1 W/18-55 STM - BLACK

What does it take to construct a lens and camera combination capable of an astounding amount of sharpness, clarity, and even photo versatility? Well, start with a lightweight and compact Canon EOS Rebel SL1 18MP digital SLR camera and add an 18-55mm STM lens, and you’ll have it – one of the best cameras for traveling. Specifically, you’ll have the CANON EOS REBEL SL1 W/18-55 STM – BLACK.

Product Highlights

  • Quality, smart viewfinding and scene recognition means that you don’t have to be an expert to use the full range of effects and optimization that this Canon Rebel SL1 has to offer.
  • Video is also a concern to any discerning buyer. Does the Canon SL1 stack up? Try Full HD 1080p at 30 and 24 fps, with a built-in mono microphone that allows for manual audio level adjustment.
  • Want stable shots? The Canon Optical Image Stabilization will save the day, offering you an astounding compensation against the blur to which so many other cameras are susceptible.

Perfect at low light, family photos, portraits, action, travel, video and more, this is the camera-lens combination you’ve been waiting for.

Learn about the CANON EOS REBEL SL1 W/18-55 STM - BLACK

What happens when you pair a versatile, lightweight camera with a lens capable of taking shots of standard and wide-angle focal lengths? You essentially equip yourself with a mobile photography studio of your very own. And it means that you’re at Adorama, looking at the CANON REBEL SL1 W/18-55 STM – BLACK option. Good choice. Here, you’ll find an entire list of features and sophisticated technical specs, all of which go into building a unique DSLR camera that offers you everything you need to go from zero to sixty in your photography hobby—or even your photography career.

Product Highlights

  • Image processing with power. Image processing and sensing is key to any DSLR camera, and the Canon SL1 is no different. The 18MP CMOS censor and DIGIC 5 image processor give your camera the sophistication and speed to handle a range of subjects in a range of light settings, allowing you to shoot with both natural and indoor light while still producing beautiful, high-quality photography each and every time.
  • Video quality here is just as important as photography quality, and the full HD 1080p at both 30 and 24 fps ensure that you’ll get all the quality you need with the Canon SL1. But there’s more to making quality video—you also need continuous autofocus, as the Movie Servo helps provide here. While you focus on a moving subject, the camera itself will be able to adjust on the fly, ensuring that none of that high-quality HD 1080p goes to waste.
  • Let’s talk viewfinding. A 3.0” Clear View II touchscreen LCD ensures that you’ll be able to use a 1,040k-dot resolution for the most possible amount of accuracy. Quality viewfinding, of course, has become standard in the industry—which is why the Canon SL1’s particular brand of accuracy and smudge-resistant coating goes above and beyond the normal calls of duty. That’s viewfinding you can rely on to continue framing well-crafted shots. And if you want just a little more, remember that an optical viewfinder with 0.87x magnification is available to ensure that your eye-level composition is stable.
  • Of course, a photographer is only as good as the camera they carry. But what about as smart? The Scene Intelligent Auto Mode handles a lot of the manual labor for you, ensuring that it makes the optical camera adjustments based on the scene that’s placed before it. From the Manufacturer
The Canon EOS Rebel SL1 DSLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens from Canon is a lightweight APS-C format digital SLR camera with an 18MP CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 5 image processor. It is combined with the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for an effective range of wide-angle to standard focal length shooting options.

The EOS SL1 provides sharp details, accurate colors and low-noise imaging in compact form factor with easy to use interface. A 9-point autofocus system provides fast focusing when shooting with the viewfinder and Hybrid CMOS AF II increases autofocus speed and accuracy when shooting in Live View. The Rebel SL1 can continuously shoot up to 4 fps and its wide ISO range of 100-12800 (expandable to 25600) allows for confident shooting in bright and low light situations.

A 3.0" Clear View II touchscreen LCD with 1,040k-dot resolution provides composition and playback viewing. Its intuitive touchscreen operation includes multi-touch operation with direct access to functions for settings changes and Touch Autofocus. Smudge-resistant coating keeps the monitor clear, even in bright sunlight. An optical viewfinder with 0.87x magnification is also available for stable eye-level composition.

Full HD 1080p at 30 fps and 24 fps is supported with Movie Servo for continuous autofocus during shooting. Manual exposure is provided in video mode and 60 fps is possible when shooting at 720p HD. A built-in mono microphone with manual audio level adjustment is provided and Video Snapshot with editing is supported.

Scene Intelligent Auto Mode automatically makes the optimal camera adjustments based on scene recognition and improved scene detection is particularly helpful when shooting night scenes. Advanced imaging features such as Effect Shot mode and background Simulation are available and Creative Filters add expressive touches to your images and can even be viewed in real time during Live View shooting. Special Scene Modes including Kids, Food and Candlelight let you set the type of shot you want and have the camera do the rest.

The EOS Rebel SL1 is compatible with the full line of Canon EF and EF-S lenses. It is paired here with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens which offers wide-angle to standard length shooting capability specifically designed for APS-C cameras. It is equivalent to a 28.8-88mm focal length in the 35mm format and its minimum focus distance is 9.8". This lens features Canon's Optical Image Stabilization system, providing 4-stops of compensation against the blur caused by slow shutter speeds when shooting hand-held in low light or at longer focal lengths. An inner focusing system provides fast autofocus and with a Stepping Motor (STM) and six group zoom system it supports the Rebel SL1's Movie Servo AF feature for smooth and quiet continuous autofocus during video recording. Manual focus override is possible. A high precision aspherical lens reduces chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range for sharp imaging and Canon lens coatings provide accurate color balance and minimal ghosting and flare.

  • Compact Form Factor: The Rebel SL1 is a particularly compact and lightweight DSLR, weighing approximately 13 oz
  • 9-point Autofocus System: A 9-point AF system (including a high-precision dual-cross center point) provides fast and accurate autofocus performance when shooting with the viewfinder. The Center AF point is AF cross-type at f/5.6, Center AF point is vertical line-sensitive at f/2.8
  • Hybrid CMOS AF II: The Hybrid CMOS AF System is utilized when shooting photos and video in Live View. Combining two different kinds of AF-phase and contrast detection-continuous focus tracking becomes faster and more accurate than ever before in Live View
  • ISO Range: An ISO Range of 100-12800 (expandable to 25600) provides low-noise capture in low light situations and saturated colors in bright conditions
  • Continuous Shooting: The Rebel SL1 offers continuous shooting rates of 4 fps for up to 7 consecutive RAW files or 28 full resolution JPEG files
  • Video Snapshot: With the Video Snapshot feature, the SL1 captures short video clips (of 2, 4 or 8 seconds) and combines them automatically into one video file as a snapshot or highlights album. With no editing needed after shooting, the compiled video is perfect for sharing online
  • Optical Viewfinder: The SL1 features an Optical Viewfinder with 0.87x magnification. Shooting with the optical viewfinder ensures steadier images and is effective when shooting in bright conditions when shooting rapidly

  • Lens Compatibility: The Canon Rebel SL1 is compatible with all EF and EF-S lenses
  • Lens Aberration Correction: The SL1 features lens correction tools that compensate for specific lens characteristics that can affect image quality. Peripheral Illumination Correction adjusts light falloff in the corner of an image based on the type of lens being used
  • JPEG Resizing and In-camera Cropping: For images easier to email, the SL1 can resize JPEG files in-camera, while leaving the original image untouched. And because the SL1 creates large 18MP images, in-camera cropping creates files large enough for direct printing or other purposes
