My "baby"...

I've had this camera for over a year now. It is my very first dslr and i am pretty new to the photography, videotagraphy, and cinematography scene. I highly recommend this camera. It is considered to be one of the cheapest good quality cameras for beginners, but it can hang with some of the "big dogs". Lord willing, i plan on upgrading (but definitely keeping my SL2 to the SL3 within the year or so.

So far so good. I've been doing more video stuff on it than I expected and things are turning out quite well.

Focus issues

My camera doesn’t focus well. One half of the frame is out of focus on some shots, in other shots the middle of the frame is out of focus. I purchased an additional prime lens 24mm and those shots are also out of focus on one side. Must be something wrong with the camera because the kit lens and the prime lens both have the issue.

Takes Great Video

A great camera for someone who is new to photography. I choose this camera so I could also use it to make videos. The video quality is great and it always stays focused. The fact that the screen flips around and is touch screen is really nice too.

Just what I needed

I am still in the learning process and have not done serious shooting yet but I know it will serve my purpose as all the youtube reviews on this product tell me so.

The SL2 is a fantastic video camera

This is a highly respected and under rated camera for photos but video is where it shines. It’s a perfect video camera for amazing 1080p content in both 24 and 60fps. Highly recommend this starter camera for any content creator not looking to break the bank in the beginning!

Awesome beginner DSLR

I bought this camera during the summer 2019 and it is my first DSLR. I went with this one because I enjoy hiking and the SL2 is smaller than most Rebels. But don't let the size fool you because it is packed with features. My favorite is the articulate touch screen. Awesome little DSLR for just starting out.

Bad battery

The camera was is in great physical condition. I’d be able to leave a better review if I could actually use my camera. The battery that it came with does not hold charge.

Great first camera

This is my first camera and it is very user friendly! The controls are simple and the pictures are great. The pro kit was so worth the extra cash as there are a number of essential products in the kit.

SL2

Bought this for my son so I could get my 60D back. It's a very nice camera, good resolution, lots of great features, more compact than mine. Only problem is that it uses EOS lenses so my son still steals my stuff : Overall a top notch piece!

Love this camera for video and studio photography

This is my second SL2. bought one last year and bought another one for my second camera in video productions, and for a backup in my studio. Silent Video focus, mic jack, Great Photos and Videos. With this resolution we can shoot a dance class and crop later portrait or landscape. Always sharp with the face detection. Lock and forget it with small kids moving around. With the live view we no longer need a foot stool. Can shoot a dancer overhead with or on the floor using the flip screen. No more tired legs getting up and down after hours of shooting. I use to shoot RAW plus jpg, but I have never needed to use the RAW yet with this camera. Exposure and Colors Great out of camera. I have Shot video at ISO 3200 for bands, performers, etc. Switched from that other brand after 12 years. Never going back.

great small camera

The Canon SL2 - at least, until the SL3 that replaced it - is perhaps the best DSLR for the money, in 2019. Affordable, paired with a fantastic Canon lens system and *many* compatible lens options, a great imaging sensor and fantastic auto-focus system, the SL2 is easy to use and incredibly versatile. My only complaint? It's a big small (intentionally so), which means that for those with larger hands, I'd recommend a T7i. I own both models, and prefer the T7i for my large hands, but both cameras are otherwise incredibly similar with the SL2 being much less expensive.

I tried several others before choosing the SL2

This camera is perfect fro a beginner such as myself. I tried 3 other camera before settling on this one. So far so good. Seems as good as new. So I saved a few bucks and have purchased one superzoom lens that I am hoping will be the perfect fit for me.

Awesome Interface

I bought the camera for personal use because I wanted to upgrade to something that could record. The interface is very user friendly. It explains a lot and the touchscreen feature is very helpful. It’s also really easy to understand, the pamphlet can also help you out if you need a quick explanation. The images are nice and clear.

From a newbie DSLR owner

The buttons are plentiful, and almost no way to hang onto the body without hitting one. Finding menu items a second time is difficult. Turns out you have to have it in certain modes in order for some items to show. Missing software, but was able to download it. A quick cheat sheet to get started taking your first picture would be nice, but maybe customers buying DSLR already know. Coming from a point and shoot with less controls and options can be a bit daunting. Thank goodness for youtube to explain it all. Still unsure if I can start a video recording from the remote release, as some have reported that it only worked in photo. Waiting for a nice warm sunny day so I can take this camera on a hike and get some nice outside shots. I think I will eventually grow into this camera. So far I'm enjoying the experience.

All the Camera Most People "Need"

By Johann

I had three SL-1 bodies, the earliest (introduction month of which developed some shutter issues in old age (123,000 shutter count). I run a business based on imaging to sell stuff. When the SL-2 was announced I got one of the first released. The Digic 7 processor and the higher buffer and write speeds are great. It is much better for moving objects, but not as good as the D7 Mark II with dual Digic 7's I also have in the office, but its smaller and far lighter. The SL-2 pivoting screen (at ...

Excellent YouTube Creator DSLR!

By DrBill

I bought this camera for my YouTube videos on my YouTube Channel. I got a recommendation from Sean Cannell with Think Media on YouTube. He said it was an excellent YouTube and VLOG camera, and I have to agree wholeheartedly! And, it is a great straight photography camera as well! I have been a photographer for over 40 years, and it works perfectly for my needs!

Create Magical Moments
Lightweight, fun and easy to use, the Canon EOS Rebel SL2 camera further proves that quality is key, helping you capture stunning photos and videos you'll love to see and share. The 24.2 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor and DIGIC 7 Image Processor deliver brilliantly sharp results, with Dual Pixel CMOS AF keeping your videos and photos in clear focus. Whether you're taking selfies or vlogging, the Vari-angle Touch Screen LCD helps capture shots at a variety of angles and situations.

A Feature Assistant function is available to help guide you through a shot if needed and when you're done you can share your creations on the spot thanks to built-in Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth connectivity. Easy to bring and simple to operate, the EOS Rebel SL2 puts creative power in your hands.

24.2 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) Sensor
The Canon EOS Rebel SL2 camera has a powerful 24.2 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor that can capture high-resolution images of immense quality in a wide variety of lighting situations. Take photos and videos with fine details and dynamic, rich colors from the deepest reds to emerald greens to lush blues and purples. Simply turn the camera on and feel confident that the results will be stunning whether they are being shared with your friends on social media or blown up into poster-sized prints.

Fast & Accurate Dual Pixel CMOS AF with Phase-detection
Line up the shot you want in Live View with virtually no wait for the EOS Rebel SL2 camera to focus thanks to Dual Pixel CMOS AF which helps deliver the world's fastest autofocusing speed at 0.03 sec. Equipped with phase-detection, it can quickly and accurately determine how far away a subject is and where the lens should focus and offers fast, smooth and precise autofocus that stays locked onto your subject, even if they are in motion, for both photos and videos. Dual Pixel CMOS AF helps ensure your results are sharp, keeps the time it takes to lock focus onto your subject to a minimum and smoothly maintains focus where you want it.
