A nice camera, but difficult to pair the WiFi with the computer to transfer photos

Amazing zoom range, but even in bright light images are soft, not as sharp as I expected across the entire zoom range. That said, pros include: it is lightweight, small in size, photos transfer seamlessly to my iPhone, and settings allow a lot of control over individual shots. Cons include: Shutter speed is slow, battery doesn't last long enough, and screen is not touch sensitive. It's time for an upgrade to this model as it is 6 years old now and some competitors have some better features, but they weigh a lot more and take sharper photos, or weigh the same and take lower quality photos. So overall, I give it a four star, a good value for the money; but I would have spent more for a Canon with same zoom range, faster shutter speed, sharper pix that are better in low light, a 1" sensor, a touch sensitive screen, and didn't weigh more.

PROS: ridiculous range, customizable photo settings, good burst photo speed CONS: autofocus can be finicky; not very good in low-light settings; settings can be overwhelming This is a very good camera for the price point. It's compact, ligthweight, takes good photos, and comes with features that would cost thousands on a DSLR. I've used it to capture wildlife and sports very effectively. The 20MP is good enough for anything you're posting online. You can get a high quality print up to 12x16 as well. Video capture is surprisingly good. There have been times where I thought I was too far away, but, when I download the video it's almost too far away. Just get a tripod or monopod or it will come out shaky. Connectivity is seamless with a cord. The app works well for mobile connectivity, but you're getting a downgraded photo by default. Save your images on your camera or go into settings to make sure you're getting the actual image. But there's a but. The ridiculous range is a huge plus but auto focus is sluggish at the distance. There are ways to overcome it, but it takes some work. It's also pretty bad in low light settings. Subject has to be still and you need the flash. I actually use my phone in those situations. Beyond that, however, this camera reigns supreme. You can definitely find better for $1K, but, if your budget is limited then this a very good option.

I've owned Canon cameras for decades. I was hesitant to buy a bridge camera because of their reputation for "soft" lenses, but I couldn't resist the incredible range of the zoom. I've been very happy with the quality of the images. By increasing the ISO a bit I've been able to take better than expected nature photographs. I was blown away when I captured the craters on the moon for the first time. I love this camera, and it's so lightweight!

Very bad camera. The iPhone camera is better. I'm not even kidding. I couldn't believe this was a real product they put out. I've had issues with the g7x mark iii and it's autofocus issue which they didn't fix, and now this one. Don't buy canon cameras. I'm done. The person I talked to told me this had better quality than the g7x mark iii. So she had no idea what she was talking about.

The SX70 is a replacement for my SX50. It has so many new features it will take some time to really understand the camera. I wish the use manual were in printed form. It would make learning so much easier. I think that the USB cable should come with the camera at no charge.

It can be challenging to get sharp pictures with this camera. However, for the price, it is a great camera. It is super light weight and very convenient. It will shoot in RAW so that is a huge pluse. You can shoot in Manual but I wish it had Flex View. Zoom is great, glass is okay.

The lens cap broke before I could even shoot the first photo. Very poor quality. Expected better from Canon. I won't buy another one

I've been a fan of Canon's SLR's since 1972, but this is my first time disappointed. Although built well as always and does in fact shoot a decent quality photo, the PowerShot SX70 HS fell well below the hype. I was looking for a simple point & shoot my wife could share with me on hikes & birding. The 65x super zoom seemed just the ticket. Problem & first red flag was I could not find a single SX70 in Portland, Or, nor the surrounding area in a retail outlet to which I could go and check it out in person. Second problem & red flag, online sales, including Canon do not allow returns based on dissatisfaction. I figured since it was right after Christmas, local availability had sold out. Turning to Google, all reports were reasonably positive with the exception one, which turned out to be the most accurate. Over priced & over hyped. I made the decision to take a chance on the good reports. After all, it's a Canon. Right? Once in hand I found the impressive magnification as promised. However, with the small tube lens in telescopic or wide, finding your subject matter much less seeing it was next to impossible. This is first due to the small view finder & dinky led screen. Secondly, it's nearly impossible to keep the camera steady enough to spot a goat from 100 yds away much less a bird! Without a tripod & remote shutter release, forget photos, particularly from a distance to come without motion fuzz, 5 level anti-shake feature or not. Bottom line: Had I the ability of hands on before purchasing, I would not have purchased. I would have purchased the rival camera I was able to try out in person... and did! With the 'No Returns' Canon policy, I'm forced to sell my PowerShot SX70 HS fresh out of the box and will be lucky to get half its value. Considering I was only half satisfied, I guess it works out fairly. Right?!!

Very good zoom power, which is the main selling point of this camera. In good light, it will deliver solid photos, but I don't recommend taking pictures in low light without flash. I bought this camera for planespotting/travel, and I am yet to travel with this camera, but it does the job pretty well for planespotting.

The SX70HS is amazing! I bought this for my wife who loves to photograph wildlife, but is not super keen on manipulating camera settings. We compared this to my older Canon 6D (full frame) with a 100-400mm IS USM L lens, and SX70HS outperformed it on several instances. In one instance, we were in Maine, photographing Moose, and with the brief time period we had, she took more great photos with her SX70HS than I did with my Canon 6D with the 100-400 lens. Similarly, while viewing Short Eared Owls and Rough Legged hawks, she was able to quickly find the birds in flight and take photos, alot more in focus, than I was able to, with my 6D. If you consider its compact size, ease of use, and its powerful zoom, and its ability to quickly focus, and that it produces great quality photos, it is a no brainer - great value for money.

I normally use a DSLR but also had my Canon SX60 as a backup. After having it for many years, I started having problems with it and decided to upgrade to the SX70. It's been out of stock at my local camera shop so was happy to get it directly from the Canon website. I keep this camera handy all the time. It's easy to use and takes great photos. The zoom is amazing! Whether you are new to photography, take family and event photos or a seasoned photographer, I recommend this camera for you.

My wife wanted a camera for birding and after spending time to research this camera was the winner. She did not want to carry something that weighed a lot like my R6 and 150-600 lens. This camera does the job with some obvious limitations. For its size it was the best choice for the purpose. It is lightweight and has a decent resolution. It also shoots RAW format if desired. The main drawbacks are peak ISO and a slight shutter button delay. I believe the ISO peaks at 800, so under low light it is an issue when using high shutter speeds. It will also not compare to a mirror-less body which is to be expected. It is a great size, easy to carry, has a great focal range considering its size. I am able to provide my wife with decent bird shots with a bit of sharpening and noise reduction software when they are in need of heavy cropping. All in all a great little camera. If Canon could add some of the capabilities of an R series body itnto this camera it would be a game changer for many.

Love it. Great Camera. Gets really close up shots and it's crisp and clear. Better than lugging around all my big lenses. So much fun! I'm amazed at how close you can zoom in and it has a great depth of field. I've taken it to baseball games and sitting up in the nose bleeds getting great shots. People sitting around me asked where did I get that camera? It's great. :) The one drawback is low battery life. I keep at least 3 fully charged batteries with me if I'm going to be shooting all afternoon. They maybe last about 90 minutes especially if shooting video, even less.

Ii have health problems that will not let me carry a big camera and lenses. I am so glad I found this camera. I would not be able to take photos at a distance if using a DSLR and lenses because of the weight. This camera has been a great camera. I am so glad I have this camera.

I've had this for a bit more than a year now, and despite being somewhat worried after reading reviews, I'm really glad I got this camera. The zoom allows me to better frame up a lot of shots and I find it really helpful. The quality is good enough to satisfy anyone from beginner to intermediate skill, and the colors are good. Some things I noticed are green and purple borders on high contrast transitions towards the edges of the field of view.

My SX50 occasionally still works, and I feel that when it does, the photo quality exceeds that of the SX70. However, I didn't have time to figure this out during the 2-week return window (from purchase date - delay in shipping resulted in the loss 5 of those 14 days). I wish Canon would resume manufacturing the SX50, which seems to be the sweet spot of reliably clear, sharp, bright photos. I would gladly give up the extra (useless) zoom for this.

Used to use a manual SRL However with age my fingers don't work as well. Using this camera I can still take photos and they turn out great.. Had to buy a new camera because I dropped mine and I bought the same camera.

Great long range camera. Love the stability when trying to get a tough shot and the quality of the final shot. Just can't beat this model when you need to reach out and touch something. Just took it on a long 5Kmi road trip and it worked excellent. Got some super pics of wildlife even from far away! Love it!

The reviews were so good on this I bought a new one online. I have only gotten great photos on a bright clear no wind day with it. I shoot in every mode trying to get good photos. I experience lots of noise/grain. I have to use adobe lightroom to help my photos look better, I do not like to edit pictures so I wish this took better quality photos. For the price it should. Also the battery symbol looks like it's full and then you go to take another photo and it says battery pack exhausted and shuts down. So make sure you have a 2nd battery which is not readily available in stores. And it charges with a wall charger unless you buy a special charger on Amzon. This takes very poor photos in low light without the flash. It takes less than average on an overcast day. The photos attached is a sparrow in late afternoon partly cloudy day, the egret is late afternoon sunny day, the sunflower is a sunny day, one not edited, other sunflower is same photo auto fixed in lightroom. Cows in field 4pm overcast fall day. I bought it for the extreme zoom, however the photos sadly are not good enough to recommend anyone to buy it with the high price tag it has.

I bought this camera half a year ago and very much enjoy using it. The build quality is good enough to make it feel sturdy and the buttons are all where they should be, logical and easy to access. If you just want a camera to take all sorts of photos with, and don't have unrealistic expectations of what a camera of this price can do, this is a great camera. It is good to remember that things such as these always seem worse when compared with all these other very expensive cameras.

My SX60 died in December and had been discontinued. I "upgraded" to the SX70 at huge price increase and have been greatly disappointed. I can't say that there is any significant difference between the new and older model other than price and shorter battery life. It takes decent photos, but the new battery size is a problem as they do not last! I have to carry at least 3 extra batteries on every hike I take. The SX60 was excellent and I wish it was still available.

I was aware of its limitations in low light performance and bought this camera mainly to see if its longer zoom can beat my 525-mm equivalent telephoto lens on my mirrorless camera because I don't want to carry a significantly bigger and heavier lens for wildlife photography. The resolution of the fine JPG images straight out of the PowerShot SX70 HS at max focus length is comparable with cropped images from my 525mm lens. Luckily, I found a good denoise software and have been able to get clean and notably higher resolution images out of the raw images from the SX70 HS. Its image stabilization for video is also good. For its compact size, weight and price, I am happy with this purchase

This camera is a great travel camera and performs exceedingly well for what it is designed to do. Part of the problem with the reviewers here is they are asking the camera to be what it is not. I have over 50 cameras and can honestly say few perform as advertised. It is a compromise between portability and light capturing. It is not a night camera at full lens extension. I am a semi-pro with 40 years of experience and only dreamed of a versatile camera like this in my kit. It is fun, convenie...

I have used the sx50 and 60 before so I got the 70 for the extra megapixels and what I found is the controls are all in great places, easy to find. The camera is a great size for traveling and for a full day of photography.
