Customer support is minimal; none one year after purchase unless you pay extra. Manual is set in 5 pt type, so you have to use a magnifying glass to use it. Info on making—and especially viewing—movies is inadequate, confusing actually.

This is the 3rd camera in this series I have owned. I travel all over the world for my work (not as a professional photographer so I can't take my Canon DSLR and lenses with me many times. The SX 710 is always with me so the opportunity to get great photos is always within reach. The capacity and quality of the zoom feature is excellent.

I have been trying for several days to download my pictures to my computer. The instructions in the manual are unclear. They do not match up to the features of my router. Canon support has not answered this part of my query. I am certain the memory card will soon run out of space. Also the ON button is a problem. The camera turns on during ordinary handling, such as putting it into or taking it out of my pocket.

I bought my SX710 HS about 2 years ago, and once I stopped pouting about not having an optical viewfinder, I started to love it. Still do. I have used for fun, friends, family, kids, travel and local landscapes, solar eclipses, photos for my Etsy store, flowers, and furry friends. I agree with some that the action shots might not be the best but that's on me because I don't use a tripod and I'm usually talking with my subjects. Canon's low light photography is superb; gets better with every year. I have some older Canons that are larger and bought this for a trip to Ireland and such a benefit to have that amazing zoom lens. Now, my one complaint is the loss of Canon's Zoombrowser photo editing suite. Whatever they call the photo editing feature that comes in the current suite - Image Garden - is a poor replacement. I was able to keep using my old Zoombrowser, updated as much as possible, until I had to reload my laptop after if had some repairs. I was able to get an earlier version, not quite as slick with a 64-bit computer, but it still works better than the current Image Garden.

I bought this SX710 HS because I was looking for a long zoom, plus great macro camera and had read good reviews on this plus a bonus it was on sale. A dslr is too heavy and bulky for my bad wrists. On this SX710 HS it's light weight enough, and I couldn't believe the clarity, the beautiful color, every pic was in focus, macro was incredible! The moon pics even without a tripod were awesome. A bird in the neighbors tallest trees I could see every feather. A ladybugs tiny legs seen as clear as could be on macro. Reflection rain drop pics on leaves became my favorite shots since I could get them perfectly on macro. I have so many nature pics I took that are framed and hanging in my home. Portraits of my kids I've taken hang on the walls. Now a year later it takes awhile to focus, even in sports mode if someone is moving pics are very blurry. I've reset it and still trouble with focusing. I get excellent photos if outdoors 10 out of 20 shots. The rest are blurry. I would still recommend this as I've been told the more photos you take it wears a camera out faster and I take thousands of photos so it could be that. My photos with this camera were so good I was told to put them in a gallery, so I would recommend it but if you have any issues, take it back as soon as you have the problem. And if Canon has a suggestion for me I would gladly try it!

The zoom is amazing...Photos are beautiful. Quality of photos are SOOO GOOD, I won a photo contest and have sold some of my photos to publishers and web designers. It is compact, feels great in my hand. Great for street photography and sporting events. Auto focus lets you enjoy what you are doing and capture amazing images. Not so good for close shots or studio "still life" types of applications. Seriously love this camera. Not only would I recommend this camera, I purchased a second as a gift.

Have owned this camera about a year or so and it is just the best for what I am using it for. I take photos at NBA games and, after a some suggestions from the pros who shoot the games, and some practice, I can take high resolution, stop-action shots at the games. Fans are not allowed to bring in any cameras with detachable lenses, so pocket cameras are needed. Using nothing more sophisticated than the Microsoft Office Picture Manager program on my computer, I can easily adjust color and contrast, crop, and resize my pics. My pro photog buddies are amazed at the quality of shots I am able to take with this camera. I have listed myself as an "advanced amateur" in my expertise level below, but I started out at a "hobbyist/enthusiast". This is the third in the Power Shot series that I have purchased as new features were added. The large viewing screen on the back is especially nice with the Power Shots.

I love this camera! It is small and compact and perfect for travelling, I take a lot of nature photos and this camera will even focus on a subject through my lanai screen and be as clear as if the screen were not there. The color and clarity are perfect. I've taken zoom night photos of the moon and thy are as clear as can be, even when enlarged on my computer. Taking photos of small birds, the individual feathers are as clear as clear can be. LOVE my camera!!

We are still trying to learn about all the settings but have found the basic point and shoot easy. We are still confused about how the flash works and the awkward pop up.

We use a point and shoot for two things - to quick check composure/lights and as a pocket thingy for spur of the moment. This Canon fits the bill - we need full manual capabilities to test possibilities for the Canon 7D to use. would have been 5 stars if Canon could get that flimsy scratch prone lens cover fixed - it is why the last camera was replaced.

Long Range Zoom, Wide Angle Scenic, Macro - it all works beautifully. I have a big DSLR with a 500mm zoom that I don't even touch anymore. This camera is small, the quality is amazing and unless I am doing something special "less than 10% of shots" I am able to get it all done with this little camera!

Good looking compact camera. Bought for daughter's Christmas. I think they will think they are cute. And has the 30 power zoom.

The Canon PowerShot SX710 is an excellent camera for capturing a wide range of travel and family memories. It is small in size but powerful in features. It records the beauty of a tiny flower just as easily as a snow-capped mountain range. It portrays the smiles of a family reunion just as surely as it brings lively sports events into focus. Even an amateur photographer will be proud of the superb photos from this camera.

I took a trip across the USA from coast to coast and back. This camera was my pillar of strength. The zoom and quality were top notch! I have a DSLR which is fantastic with a 200 - 500 mm lens. This little camera has matched every part of the DSLR and surpassed in several ways. MACRO is beyond amazing, color and clarity is beautiful. The only thing a DSLR can do better is speed of finding and shooting due to the eye piece. I can catch ducks taking off from the water better with the DSLR, but all other shots are now taken with the 710.

I bought a Canon SX710 about a year and a half ago. It has been nothing but a total disappointment. Photos have never been sharp, always fuzzy, even from day one. The Canon camera app for Android has been a joke. Transferring photos from the camera to my tablet via WiFi has been incredibly difficult. The lens cover bends easily and does not retract fully. I would never, ever buy this camera, or any other similar camera from Canon again. Their quality has plummeted.

This camera takes great pictures. I use it for my business where detail is important and the pictures come out clear and concise every time.

This camera is amazing! I traveled to Southeast Asia for 5 months and wanted something more compact that could still take beautiful photographs. All of my photos turned out wonderful and everything is very clear. I love this camera!

I like a lot about the camera BUT one main quirk about it. The shutter for photos works via wifi on a phone, pad or laptop but it will NOT work via wifi for video. A major snafu in my opinion. I also wish there was a power cord to run the camera if the battery is dead but that is not available due to the design of this. It does take great pics and great video and you can send them via wifi which is a great feature. The only reason I would not recommend it is due to the video feature not being operable via wifi.

I bought this camera at Best By in mid October, 2015. I take thousands and thousands of nature/scenery pictures. This camera will not take sharp pictures, the light is never correct. I try every setting. I go back to default and try again. I have never taken a shot that is right with this camera.. How can all of the other reviews say it is so great. I take pictures of swans swimming in the middle of a lake, the pixels do not record correctly. When I use AUTO, the light is never correct, it always gets too dark. My wish is to accidentally drop this expensive piece of junk into a garbage dump.

I've had a SX-700 (essentially the same camera for well over a year. I walk and hike a lot and got tired of lugging a large, heavy super-zoom camera, so I bought this on a whim and it is exactly what I needed. I've taken thousands of photos and a few videos. I've begun taking hand-held night shots of lighted buildings, fountains, etc. and if I'm careful the results are impressive.

Great options and the 30x lens is very useful... Used the camera with tripod to take the Lunar Eclipse on 9/27/15 and the results we impressive for the lens and operating system of the camera.

I've owned and used Canon pocket cameras (SX Series) since the SX210 and I currently own an SX280. I would like to upgrade to this one, but it lacks a few critical features that are important to me in a modern camera: I would like to shoot RAW without having to purchase a bulky DSLR or crossover. 4K video shooting is available now on my smartphone! (Why not on a camera like this?) I would of course prefer Image stabilization if 4K were to be implemented in a future model. Lastly, I have always disliked the flash that wants to pop-up where I like to grip the camera. Please put it in the center, Canon! Oh, and please refine variable speed zoom (the harder I press the quicker should be the zoom and vice-versa) and keep that zoom motor quite while shooting video! Thank you for listening!

This is our first P&S purchase for at least 3 years, so maybe all of them have stepped up their game - compared to what we've had in the past, I'm very pleased with this purchase. I got it for my wife for our anniversary. She's not a photographer, but wants to start taking more shots and exploring more options. My DSLR intimidates her, so I wanted something that took great shots on auto but also had advanced features so she could start to learn how the variety of settings work together. Even though this camera has the Aperture/Shutter priority modes as well as full manual, the Auto mode does a fairly fantastic job. She especially appreciates that the camera will switch from normal to macro automatically and the IS works very well. She's got fewer buttons to press for great shots everywhere. She's very happy and taking more shots, which is the most important thing. We've not tried the phone sync / control options yet, but those features are secondary for us. Deducting one star because the focus does tend to wander a bit - meaning that it will sometimes focus on, say, the outer rim of a flower rather than on the center of the frame. Maybe something in the settings will help, but for now it's just annoying.

Pros: This camera has an excellent zoom lens, and takes good pictures as long as it's bright enough. It starts up and shuts down really fast and seems to have really good battery life. Cons: Screen in not a touch screen - not sure why they skimped on that. it makes it much more difficult to navigate the menu and view your pictures There is no panorama mode - I have no idea why they would leave that out The wifi features are limited, I was expecting functionality like my 70D where I can post to web services right from the camera... but no, you can't You can only pair with a single device - not at all easy to switch between tablets, phones, and your laptop - again, makes this functionality of limited value when it was one of the main reasons I purchased it. A couple of the shooting modes they do give on the dial are really gimmicky You have to pop up the flash manually, and you would think that if you do pop up the flash, it would fire it, sadly it does not always fire, it's still automatically determining if it thinks there's enough light so it may or may not use the flash - If I pop it up, I want it to flash. I really hate this behavior

So I got this camera about a month ago and I absolutely love it. I purchased this camera as I was going to be attending a concert and I've always wanted some great photos and video that weren't just from my iPhone. I'm very glad I picked this camera, it's super user-friendly coming from someone who isn't a photography pro. But the pictures I did end up getting looked pro, I'm actually thinking about selling them, they came out that good. The video was great too, focused when I wanted it to, but of course lighting at concerts can either work with you or against you so it was a matter of timing. And it's perfect to bring along with you wherever, starts up fast and isn't bulky at all. If you're looking to invest a little more on a camera, this one is for you! You're getting your money's worth. This is my first Canon purchase, although my family have used them for as long as I can remember. I'm sure I'll be purchasing another Canon in the future.
