The Canon PowerShot SX740 HS Digital Camera is a fantastic little camera, especially for those looking for incredible performance in a compact package. Its standout feature is undoubtedly the powerful 40x optical zoom, allowing you to capture distant subjects with surprising clarity, complemented by effective optical image stabilization. The addition of 4K video recording and a tilting LCD screen for easy selfies or creative angles makes it a versatile companion for travel and everyday moments. It's a great choice for casual photographers who want impressive zoom capabilities without the bulk of a DSLR.

Restock the item that people want. Apple doesn't have this issue with their technology devices, so I do not understand how this is a hard ask.

I had the SX720HS before it broke and loved it, so I bought the SX740HS...It definitely does not take as good of photos as the SX720. Hard to focus and has blurrier photos overall. Bummed at the downgrade.

For a little camera, it works great! The zoom is amazing. I was in the 3rd tier at a baseball game and was able to zoom in on just the top half of the player, showing the bat and his torso and face only, and it was clear. Looking forward to playing a lot more with it!

I absolutely love this camera for how advanced and clear the photos come out. It is such a good price and better than any other camera that may be around or over this price. 100% worth it.

I absolutely love this camera. I was originally looking at the Canon G7X Mark II for a few specific reasons. I wanted a flip screen for selfies, flash, something light for travel, and of course takes good pictures. I picked this based on price and availability and I am so happy with my purchase. I have to play around with it more but even on auto the pictures are amazing.

I replaced a PowerShot A550 with the SX510 HS. When the SX510 started giving me trouble, I considered getting a $1000 phone with a great camera or a decent pocket camera for half the price. I opted for the SX740 HS and feel the image quality is a step down from the older Canons. Everything looks like AI assisted digital zoom. Whether wide, zoomed or in between, there's no detail. Focus is soft. Edges have an AI smooth, vague crispness like older cell phones. It's also less intuitive to use. Close up focus is sllllooooowww. I missed tons of shots waiting for the camera to focus. If you stop the lens in increments before you get to maximum zoom, it's more likely to eventually focus. If you zoom to the subject rapidly, the lens toggles between close blur and wide blur before settling on wide blur. The zoom range is phenomenal, but optics are not. There's no detail. Bricks, grass, hair, etc, become graduated color blobs. Pressing the shutter takes a bit more pressure than I'm accustomed to. It causes more shake than usual with slower shutter speeds. The first time I used it, I thought I was taking photos and video but hadn't pressed the shutter hard enough. For the price, I expected better optics and user experience. I never expected this camera to be a replacement for my professional equipment, but I expected it to be as good as my older, defunct PowerShot pocket cameras. I was on the fence about sending it back so I re-shot a few scenes I'd done with my old powershots and took it on vacation, which is why I originally purchased it. The deal breaker wasn't the inferior sharpness, it was connectivity problems. Instead of simple transfer by cable, you have to pair the camera with your phone or computer every time you change networks. The camera disconnected frequently while I tried to transfer files. Restarting the camera helped the first few days of my vacation. By day 5, I couldn't get it to resume transfer of that day's photos no matter how many times i re-started. Transfer by cable isn't an option for this model and I didn't have a card reader with me. I thought is was just a network security problem that would be over once I got home, but it wasn't. I spent hours pairing, un-pairing, pairing again and looking for (non existent) information on how to transfer by cable. Eventually, I hooked up an old printer with a card reader and transferred the remaining files that way. If sharpness and cable connectivity isn't important to you, you might like the camera. However, it's a big deal to me so I returned the camera and I'm back on the market, looking for something sharp, fast and small. that way.

I have had three compact pocket cameras, the others being a Nikon Coolpix A300 and a Panasonic DC-ZS80. The Canon is definitely my favorite. I have purchased extra batteries batteries and a spare memory card in case of trouble. The Canon will be going with me on my upcoming trips to Italy and an Avalon Waterways river cruise on the Po River in Portugal. I think this camera will be with me for quite a while.

I found the 740 quite an improvement over my 730. I had over 1,000,000 pictures on the 730 and wanted to upgrade & update. I was waiting for a newer version instead of one from 2018, but I'm really happpy with it. I pretty much just leave it on auto, and haven't been disappointed yet.

I adore this camera sooo much. Im so impressed with the quality and how easy it is to maneuver, would definitely say its a close dupe to the g7 mark ii. Would highly recommend if you're trying to achieve stunning photos (especially for my social media girlies) I recommend putting the setting on "P" changing the IOS to 400, -1,2 exposure and do the force flash on the side!!

We would have given it 5 stars except that Canon has not updated its software so we cannot use the Bluetooth or WiFi connection with the MacOS 14.3 we are using - I have no interest in sending pictures to my iPhone. Now, as in the past, we just download to our iMac through a cable. We love the camera, although it took a little time to get used to the differences from our earlier SX160 IS. We have used Canon cameras since I bought an FTb in Tokyo in 1974, and still have that and my A1 and lots of lenses. We went digital in 2012 when the SX160 IS was the last Canon camera that used AA batteries rather than expensive rechargeable ones. So far, the quality of pictures has been the equal or better than on the SX160, and when I learn the added features on this camera, it will be wonderful. For people wanting a great "pocket camera", this should be their choice.

I really like the camera but am perplexed as to why it doesn't come with a memory card. As expensive as it is, it should come with at least a small memory card.

Great zoom and image stabilization
By gkinghorn
I received the first batch of the new SX740 this week and am amazed so far. The 40x zoom and image stabilization make for incredible hand held photos. The hi-speed multi-shot mode at 10 frames per second at full resolution means you always get the best high-speed action photos.
Outstanding pictures with an amazing zoom!

I bought this camera to use traveling because of it compact size and amazing zoom! Canon hit a home run with the SX740 HS. High quality pictures with an amazing zoom. It's very easy to setup the WiFi and Bluetooth. It allows you to quickly send pictures directly to your phone to forward on or to your computer/printer. The camera is very easy to use and the Optical Image Stabilizer really helps produce sharp pictures. Extremely helpful for unsteady people like me. I just love the 4K movie qual...

The Canon PowerShot SX740 HS Digital Camera combines superior, high-definition imagery with exceptional zoom capabilities in a small and compact body. This revolutionary point-and-shoot is Canon’s first Powershot camera to deliver 4K video (3840 x 2160 at 30fps)—all thanks to its 20.3MP CMOS sensor and state-of-the-art DIGIC 8 imaging processor. The latter enables faster continuous shooting (10fps) with autofocus while the former provides an extensive ISO range for shooting in low-light situations. Integrated into the camera’s small and portable body is a 24-960mm (35mm equivalent) f/3.3-6.9 lens that offers up to 40x optical zoom, as well as Dual Sensing IS for 4-stop image stabilization to effectively eliminate camera shake and ensure sharp and detailed shots even when the lens is fully extended. With the Zoom Framing Assistant and the camera’s 3-inch tilting rear LCD monitor, this point-and-shoot allows you to frame and track moving subjects at the longest focal length. The Canon Powershot SX740 HS is available in black and silver and can connect to mobile devices via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, so you can quickly edit and share your photos via the Canon Camera Connect app.
The SX740 gains Canon's latest processor (Digic 8), which brings with it UHD 4K video capture and 7.4 fps burst shooting with continuous AF. The camera also features Wi-Fi with NFC and Bluetooth, with the latter providing the ability to automatically transfer images to both mobile and desktop devices.
Canon's new PowerShot SX740 HS is an ultra-compact long-zoom camera that replaces the SX730. As with that camera, it features a 24-960mm equivalent F3.3-6.9 lens, 20MP 1/2.3" BSI-CMOS sensor and flip-up LCD.
4K Video & Time Lapse Movie - Capture 4K videos at a frame rate of up to 30p for super-high definition, cinematic results. Recording at almost four times the resolution of Full HD, you can see your subject in stunning clarity. Beautiful time-lapse videos can also be created in 4K simply and easily with the dedicated Time-lapse Movie model.
DIGIC 8 Image Processor - which helps improve autofocus performance, enables you to shoot 4K UHD 30p video and aids with many other advanced features. It comes with an improved Auto Lighting Optimizer, which helps minimize blown-out areas by maintaining color and detail in the bright parts of a photo.
7.4 fps - With autofocus tracking on to help keep your shots sharp, you can maintain the speed and shoot at up to 7.4 fps - ideal for sports, wildlife, moving subjects or anything unpredictable. Whatever life throws at you, you'll be ready to record it with a fast continuous shooting speed of up to 10.0 fps with the AF Lock feature on.
The Canon PowerShot SX740 HS Digital Camera, presented in a sleek and stylish black finish, is a compact yet powerful device designed to capture your precious moments with exceptional clarity and detail. Whether you're at home or exploring the world, this high-tech camera's impressive 40x Optical Zoom brings distant subjects into sharp focus, making it an ideal choice for travel, wildlife, and sports photography.
The built-in Optical Image Stabilizer works to ensure your images are always sharp and steady, even when shooting handheld at full zoom or in challenging lighting conditions. This feature is particularly beneficial for those with unsteady hands or when capturing high-speed action shots.
Step into the immersive world of 4K video recording with the PowerShot SX740 HS. This camera offers cinematic movie recording at nearly four times the resolution of Full HD, allowing you to relive your memories in stunning detail. In addition to its powerful features, the Canon PowerShot SX740 HS Digital Camera is user-friendly, making it a suitable choice for both professional photographers and hobbyists. Its compact size makes it easy to carry, ensuring you never miss a moment, no matter where you are. With the PowerShot SX740 HS in your pocket, you're always ready to capture the next great shot.
