This is the low end of the ATP products and they should not have bothered. It is difficult to use even when the batteries are brand new, and totally not functional after 20 minutes on a new set.

First bought in July for a trip to Disney and the GPS unit did not seem to log any data. I tried the auto transfer to an SD card, but never got GPS data on my photos. This week (10/26/08) I finally got the unit to log GPS data. However, I went through 2 sets of batteries (in less than 8 hours) and wound up missing chunks of the GPS coordinates for the trip. I was using my DSLR, which uses compact flash cards (not compatible with the memory slot and the auxillary hookup for card reader doesn't seem to work), so I had to manually transfer the GPS data using the software (whiche I had to hunt around the internet for). The software does not open files quickly, takes a long time to put the GPS data into the files and then always wants to try to plot on Google Earth (even if you say no it still churns like it is). To try to speed up the software I reduced the image sizes (from 3-4mb each to 200-400k each), but that didn't seem to speed up anything (any you have to downsize the originals, copies do not seem to work). After a day of shooting (300+ photos) it took 2-3 hours to process the images. Also, I had to do everything in Windows; I am going to try to use a third-party Mac software. The plus side is that the software does let you easily combine the log files into a .kml file for plotting on Google Earth, which was pretty cool. All in all I think this is a neat toy and OK for an enthusiast like me, but beyond that you probably need a better solution. If I could find a regular GPS unit that would store and output the GPS data I would prefer that solution (provided this third party software works out).

This product is great in theory. It must have been good fun sitting at the pub dreaming this thing up. In practice it is not much. For me it has been a green plastic thing hanging from my backpack inviting thieves to steal my bag. I will purchase a Nikon P6000.

I purchased this exact same unit from [...], only having to return it after a week of use. The problem with this unit is the battery compartment was poorly designed so the unit shuts itself off now and then. The display is also very poor especially in bright sunlight. You basically cannot see the display at all if you are out in the sun. The product is not as easy to use as it seems, since it can be difficult to sync your camera's clock with the GPS clock. Too bad this is the only unit I know of that has a built in card reader. This is the only "+" from this unit. It's so easy to use compared with other GPS geologgers which require you to use software to geotag your pictures.
