Questions & Answers

JOHNNY B : Is it absolutely necessary to be on a network for it to work?DAVIS D : It depends on the firmware, the earlier versions of the card had to be on a real network to transfer images to another device, the latest firmware allows you to create ad-hoc networks. If you just want the images to save to the card then you don't need a network at all. There are better cards out there if don't intend on using the wireless function though. ERIC R : According to the official site, yes with one exception. If you have a compatible iOS or Android device (not sure what they define as compatible), then you can use Direct Mode and (presumably) transfer straight to your device.WILLIAM P : No. You can use the Eye-FI app on your ipad and it will transfer direct. I normally do not do this. I purchased an Aluratek wireless battery powered router and use it. No internet connection. Just a network to transfer fro Eye-Fi card to my iapd, using shutter snitch. I know have a few of these cards and use them to shoot with clients. They get to see previews on the iPad quick.DANIEL A : For what to work? If you mean for the memory card to store photo's (or whatever else).. then, no you do not need to be on a network. If you mean for the photo's to transfer via WiFi, and you lose connection, then they will transfer upon reconnection. There are various settings that you can choose from with the supplied software.ERIC G : Yes. You must be on the same network as far as I know. There is a premium service that allows you to upload from other networks though.
GILBERT W : I have a Sony VG10 will it work??CHARLES M : I don't know.FRANCISCO O : No idea, I have only used it with a Nikon D7000. Good Luck!ANTHONY M : If you're camera has the wi-fi, then i see why it wouldn't work, once you enable it, and you've downloaded the eye-fi software and established a wi-fi connection to you're computer, and w/ the camera on, each shot will automatically be sent from the card to the computer and the designated locationDAVID G : I don't know anything about the VG10 so I'm afraid I can't be much help. If it takes SD media, it SHOULD work for recording purposes (the Eye-Fi Pro X2 is rated as a Class 6 device, so check your documentation on that.) If you want to wirelessly transfer video, however, the Eye-Fi will not do the job. It sends JPEG's (and RAW) still images only so AVCHD video would need to be processed the old fashioned way.
Shopper : Will card work with Olympus E3 & E5 series cameras?ANTHONY M : the card will work regardless if you use sd card, as far as the wi-fi, if you're camera is equipped w/ wi-fi, or like my canon t3i, it's not built in, but once you enable the wi-fi, the camera will send all my pics via wi-fi connection to the card's software that is installed on my pc, and upload them automatically to the specified folder......no need to insert card into pc or connect to pc, just have pc on and camera on and both in wi-fi range and pics automatically upload, even if use the camera and shoot picsTimothy W : Check out their support page: (moderators note: URL removed. Links to outside websites are not allowed in this forum)ROBERT P : I am not familiar with the Olympus cameras, as I have a Canon 5D Mark III it worked with my camera.DAVID G : I believe that the E-3 accepts CF (Type I, II, Microdrive) and xD media but not SD while the E-5 does accept SD (and other media types). So the Eye-Fi should work with the E-5 but not the E-3. The Wi-Fi Pro X2 is SDHC Class 6 media -- so it meets the minimum specs from Olympus for recording purposes. A word of caution, however, as transfer speeds increase with file size, you may not want to use Wi-Fi for large RAW images as download speeds will be painfully slow. (The card can be set-up to exclude RAW images on transmit so if JPEG + RAW is being captured, only the JPEG would transmit)JIM C : I'm a Canon owner so don't know the answer to that question. Apologies.JOHNNY B : My camera brand is Nikon. I have not experienced or researched Olympus.

Upload slow

Takes quite a bit of time to upload particularly videos. I bought this to take video interviews of family members and not run out of memory. Hope it works well.

Remove the word "Pro" & it's ok.

The setup and use was straight forward and easy. The negative is the file transfers can not handle the large RAW files sizes fast enough for professional use. I was using this with a Canon 5D3 in studio, and was hoping to speed up my work flow by having the files automatically sent to my PC as I took them. Unfortunately the file transfer speeds were way too slow and you'll use up the 8GB space in no time.

Product doesn't live up to expectations

I'm using a Nikon D90 and tried setting Eye-Fi for direct link to my iPad. The product is simply immature--looks like they released it well ahead of when it should have been. Set up fails out of the box, requiring software and firmware updates immediately. Connection between camera Eye-Fi and iPad is dropped regularly. Pix take forever to show up on the iPad--and many never arrive. It's clearly not "instant" as the product is advertised. Eye-fi is a great idea with poor/premature execution. I returned mine and will wait until this product matures or a competitor beats them to it. Maybe Apple will step up to this challenge!

Eye-Fi card

I love this card. I wish I could afford one for each of my cameras. It does work/fit in all of my cameras that use a regular SDHC card. I can use it in which ever camera I am using that day. I have Nikons, Canons, Kodaks so I believe it will work in most brands(probably not Olympus cameras, unless they use regular sdhc cards now. I know they use to only use the card made by olympus)

Unreliable

I purchased two of these, thinking that they would be a great addition to my cameras, particularily for extended travel. At various times, each of them has become corrupted, losing the photos stored on them. When this happens, the photos are unrecoverable. I tried 5 different programs including Sandisk, Stellar Phoenix, Photo Recovery, Disk Drill and another I can't recall at the moment. A lot of wasted time and money, but not a single photo recovered due to the proprietary system. While these may be OK for casual photography, where loosing a days photos is an acceptable risk for the cards convienance, I will never use one again for any critical work. Best for casual point and shoot photography rather than mission critical work

Don't Buy this for Nikon D800!

Just received email confirmation from SamF at Eyefi, this does not work in the Nikon D800 in Direct mode. I can't get it to work in any mode, but Direct Mode is probably the reason why any professional would use it, and is why I bought it. Don't waste your time with this device.

Not sure yet.

Unfortunately, the jury is still out on this card. I received it and the first one didn't work. Eye-Fi replaced it promptly (and at their costs for shipping with a little prodding) but the replacement just arrived today. So far so good. It is a good idea so we'll see how the second card does.

Need it to shoot tethered

I use this card to enable my Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 to shoot tethered. I've found no other option. I shoot portraits against a green screen. The Eye-Fi card facilitates transfer of RAW and JPEG to my computer. JPEGS transfer much faster than RAW files (because of file size.) I use FXHome PhotoKey 4 (set to watch the Eye-fi upload folder and automatically export the replaced background) and Adobe Lightroom (set up to watch the output folder from PhotoKey) so that customers can immediately see a mock up of the results and select the best portrait. Unfortunately I've noticed that in a room full of people with cell phones (wireless noise), transfers can be unreliable or slow. My solution is to move the camera closer to the computer. I recommend if shooting tethered that the camera and the computer be within 20 feet. I also use an Apple Airport Express to setup a local wireless hotspot to link my Eye-Fi card and my computer anywhere I go. Although the Eye-Fi card has the ability to connect directly to my computer by setting up it's own wireless hotspot, I have found that it is not as reliable as using the Apple Airport Express. Software setup took a while to get right on my Macbook Pro. I needed to go to the Internet and update the software that came on the card. Setup was also not intuitive, but I figured it out after some playing around. Everything works and all in all I'm satisfied.

Convenient uploading and transmission

I am able to upload, through Direct Mode, to Nikon cams with two slots, by copying "locked" files to the Eye-Fi card set up for overflow. The Eye-fi card then sends the selected files to my iPhone and I email the photos to my client for immediate web upload. (Easily done during a sporting event time out or a lull in any event)

One Great SDHC Card

My first Eye-Fi card was in my point and shoot Canon A630, I liked it so much I got one for my wifes Camera. I use a Nikon D5100 and was afraid that the card would not keep up with the 6.3 FPS sequence mode but it does. I just returned from a shoot in Utah where I shot 684 frames and the convenience of down loads at the end of the day is fabulous. The 8GB is large enough to shoot both RAW and JPG and they both download with the Pro Card.

works with HTC EVO 4G Android 2.3

Make sure you follow instructions, the initial setup requires a few steps involving your PC. Also be sure to restart your phone after everything is setup.

sweet but confusing to use with direct

the direct method with the apps for both android and ios are a little frustrating to configure. you also need a pc everytime you need to reconfigure the settings. i wish you could just pair the devices once then auto switch methods by simply flicking a switch on the app side.

Not bad for the $$

I saw this and thought it was too good to be true. It isn't! It works pretty well in studio. When going on-location the card stores the images and when you return in range of your wifi router the images begin downloading. While it's not blazing fast, the card capacity is plenty to buffer up while you transfer to the router.

Eye-Fi Pro X2 8GB

Pretty nice gadget. range can be a bit limited based on the material of you camera housing (that whole faraday cage thing). Peer to peer REALLY needs to covered in depth in the installation instructions. You are NOT always going to be close to a/your wireless network....
