Well thought out
I use this device to calibrate my lens for that tack sharp image and it does not disappoint. I bought it a month ago and am very pleased at how easy it is to make lens adjustments with the SpyderLensCal tool.

Essential tool
Fine tuning lenses should ONLY be done if you have issues with focusing that cannot be worked out through the elimination of human error. Having said that, I advise anyone using this devise to proceed with caution! The devise is easy to setup (you can use two tripods, or a level table). I used this to correct a rear focus issue I was having with my Nikon 85mm f/1.8d. I would highly recommend only using this device with prime (fixed focal length) lenses! The instructions do not address zoom lens, and the Datacolor website does not address calibration of them. The issue I see, is if you calibrated one focal length (e.g. 70mm)you run the risk of throwing off your focal lengths at the other distances. This could lead to insanity. Bottom line - Nikon buries the access to this function in menus, and probably with good reason. The function is really nice to have if you really need it, and you don't have the expense, or time to send the camera in to have it done by service. Just remember A)READ YOUR CAMERA MANUAL concerning this function first. B)Fine tune in increments and C)take MANY test shots.
