Questions & Answers

JACK H : Will the software licence allow our camera club to share this device over many computers?neil p : if you were a techie, you would buy this to work on your customers monitors; and not have to buy a new one for each customer, it's a physical tool, not a personal software. your honesty is refreshing ....ALEX U : Unless specified, the software license is usually for one (1) computer only. You would have to contact the software vendor for their license agreement.
Shopper : Would the new ICC color profile it creates interfere with Photoshop in any way? In other words, how can you be sure the colors displayed in Adobe apps are 'correct'?KATHLEEN Y : I'm not sure I will be able to answer your question in a helpful way because I don't print out of Photoshop. I print jpegs direct to my EPSON printer, using a memory card or USB stick. What the Spyder's calibration does for me is ensures that the colours I see on the screen will be accurately reproduced in my printed image. And it works for me. Hope this helps.JOHN L : Sorry, I don't have an answer for your question. I don't use Photoshop.STEVE S : I use Aperture, not Photoshop so I can't answer the question.JOEL W : I have been using the Datacolor Spyder 3 on a Dell laptop with Photoshop CS5.1 (64 bit) for the past month. To date I have had no issues. Printed photographs from SmugMug are as displayed on my screen. To date I am quite pleased with the productDAVID M : All this will do is assure that the color you're looking at on screen is accurate and will deliver the color you want when it leaves your screen and is printed or uploaded to a web page, etc. Of course correcting your monitor's color balance will affect what you see in Photoshop. This is what you want. You will correct the images in Photoshop and you can be assured that what you see is pretty much what you'll get. Read up on the color profiles Adobe uses: sRGB, Adobe RGB, and ProPhoto RGB. Those will affect your prints.NICK B : I have not seen any issues with Spyder 3 Pro in Photoshop. The only issue has been an intermittent blacking out of the monitor screen. I've tried their recommended "fixes" but am still searching for the answer. Other than that annoyance I've been pleased with the product. Enjoy!!!Vincent M : No problem just simply use the new color profile created by Spyder 3 in place of the default profile for the monitor in photoshop.THOMAS D : Ive used it for about a year now and my photos look even better across the board; on clients monitors and in print. Within most adobe products you can choose and manage your color display within the app itself and it'll work perfectly. Just run ans save your spider callibratrd profile (itll do it automatically when you callibrate) then pick that name in photoshops color profile setting in the file dropdown menu. I then tested the gamma, brightness, and contrast on print and again, not only are they the same as seen on my monitors but in print. You'll love it!! I do. Hope this helpsJARED C : I have compared printed images ( form a high quality pro print lab) to what the screen in photoshop CS4 look like ( after using spyder pro3) and the colors / contrast, etc. are pretty spot on... I thought my monitor was accurate before using spyder pro 3... nope.. way off... I definitely recommend this product!
Shopper : Does it, Spyder3Pro, work with newer LED backlit monitors? Unlike ColorMunki, the specs do not say.RANDY K : I bought this one specifically to calibrate a new LED monitor. My Spyder 2 Pro model is only for CRT and LCD. Additionally, I've had to contact their tech support to help me figure out how to match the calibration between the two monitors. They've been nothing short of fantastic in helping me with the software and hardware. Can't recommend this more highly.KIM S : My monitor is a samsung flatscreen relatively new. . I do not know if it is a LED backlit. The Spder 3 software is very easy to use and worked fine.ANTHONY L : Yes it works with backlit monitors. I have a Samsung backlit monitor and it works great. This is an awesome product.MICHAEL P : I have two Samsung ex2220x wide led monitors mine on the box say "wide l e d monitors" mine work just fineGREGG H : Sorry, but I am not knowledgable about that. GreggSteele L : I use a duall monitor setup with ViewSonic LED monitors. I do not know if these are back lit. But since I have converted from Windows XP to Windows 7 I hve not used the spyder Colorimiter but i have heard the my version does not support the Win 7 OS..

Monthly at a minimum and whenever I am working on new files, touching up or printing, I calibrate my monitor.

Very satisfied

I've used the product across multiple computers (both Mac and PC - but could only choose one from the list) with multiple monitors and find it VERY easy to use. The price is perfect and it's so straightforward and fast.

I use this weekly.

Wish I had bought a combination that calculated both the screen and the printer.

Good way to get better color

I have an iMac so the display is already outstanding using the built in calibration. But with the Spyder 3 Pro it takes it up several notches. And it is quicker and easier than the manual calibration. I have calibrated all my monitors using this single device.

Misleading

My Spyder3 seems to calibrate my monitors correctly but when i disable the software it looks worse than ever. With the spyder software running it looks great, but without it it's worse than before. Also i have two monitors side by side. Once is an LED LCD the other a regular LCD. They are not calibrated the same way. It may just be the LED backlight that causes this but a window which is half on each monitor looks completely different on each monitor.

Easy and Quick to use

I'm a professional photographer that primarily shoots tabletop food and product. I just purchased a new laptop and wanted all my computers color balance to match. The Spyder 3 Pro is used and recommended by several of my design clients and they were right it's very quick and easy to use. I would highly recommend this product to any professional or serious amateur who wants consistency across the board. Well worth the low cost and high performance.

East to use and made a BIG difference

Made a wonderful difference in the color accuracy of my prints. Found out my monitor was 50% too bright! No wonder my prints were so dark. Very easy to use. I would recommend this product

Impressed!

I was looking for a monitor calibrator that works with dual monitors on Windows system. Seems like most products won't do this when monitors are on one graphics card (dual head) but this one does it and does it well.

Powerful, especially for the money

I attended an afternoon class by Nikon and learned alot about the program that I did not pick up from the manual. I also purchased a third party manaual that added knowledge as well. Overall it has been easier to learn than I expected from such a powerful program

Easy to Use; Works.

Used to calibrate display devices for photo editing and show. Easy to setup and use. A color calibration chart and method to verify color accuracy would be helpful.

Absolutely No Regrets

I work with photos at my job and I also like to share my personal photos. The result is that I'm often editing photos at work, home, and on the road. The biggest problem I've had is that a digital image on my work Dell desktop computer never looks the same on my (work) Gateway travel laptop or on my personal Dell laptop. It also bugs me when I edit a photo on my laptop and email it to a friend only to have them comment that it's dark or too light. Even a photo that looks great on my travel laptop would look terrible if I printed it on the desktop computer unless I tweaked it again. That's what convinced me to spend the money and buy the Spyder to calibrate all the monitors I deal with. By calibrating all three of the computers I use, it saved me a lot of time in adjusting images to suit the computer. On two computers, the changes were not significant but still noticeable. On my personal Dell laptop, it changed it significantly from the factory settings. So now I can prep my image on the road, bring it back to the office, pop it in the desktop and print without readjusting - nice! Even my friends have commented that the photos I share with them have been more consistent. The Spyder was easy to use. I installed the software as directed. I then connected the calibrator device via USB and draped it on my monitor screen. It does come with a suction cup but I prefer not to apply pressure to my screen. If you don't use the suction cup, be sure to "uncheck" it in the setup menu. I just let the device hang flush against the screen and let the program work. I just used the default settings and have been happy with the result. If you share photos or deal with multiple computers, this is a must-have.

Wd be happy if printer was profiled too!

I changed the light temperature in my work room 6500K and then had the monitors profiled to perfection - looks great. If you want printers also profiled - Spyder is not the way to go. There are other profilers for around the same price range - almost.

Don't edit photos without it.

This product installed quickly and calibrating my monitor was easy. My prints of photos never looked quite the same as on the screen, now they do. Don't edit photos without it.

So far, I love it.

I purchased this program to calibrate my two monitors which, before calibration, were widely disparate in color balance. In literally 15 minutes I was able to install the program and calibrate both monitors. [...] The program itself is easy to use and very intuitive.

Great Produt

Great product! Corrects color very well even on my Samsung 24" LCD monitor. Not good on the Macbook Pro (nothing is, its a Laptop). Not sure about the ambient light indicator. Much better product than the Huey Pantone Pro.

A must have...

I was skeptical of paying the money for this but am so glad that I did. I use to calibrate by eye and wonder how my prints would come back. But now I don't even worry at all. They come back perfectly matched to what I see on my monitor. It's worth the peace of mind and the quality you're able to achieve in color.

Simple Calibration Solutions

Rookie photographer with maybe a bit too many resources devoted to the hobby. This was my first attempt to color correct my images. Having a good monitor with plenty of manual controls is an important starting point. I find the calibrator to be essentially useless for laptops. Overall, I thought the product was well made and I would recommend it to other photographers, as well as my personal friends.

Not Great

The initial on screen instructions are in some oriental script, so I had to guess what the first move was. After following the onscreen instructions and "calibrating" my monitor all my images appear under exposed and very flat. There seems to be a bit of a blue cast also.

Works good

Stand that holds the sensor, does not hold it secure enough. If you bump it the sensor will fall off and hit the floor. The suction cup on the sensor does not stick to the screen very well ( must put some preasure when applying to screen ) my sensor came off in the middle of the calibration set-up and had to re-start the procedure again.

Well worth the price, which as a value to me in the end. The ease of use is great as well and it takes no time at all to learn to use. Great directions.
