KEITH K : Have a MAC, with this work well. I primarily use Adorama Lab and ask for no color correction. What will this product do for me?DOMINIC N : It depends on how accurate you want your colors to match up to your print. On a mac, it's more subtle, but the difference is there if you don't use color calibration.KAREN M : Sorry, I really can't help you with this question. We all use PCs and have never tried it on a MAC. I can tell you it works very well on our PC.LOUIS S : Datacolor Spyders work fine with Macs. The main purpose of this device is to calibrate your monitor so that it displays colors accurately and reproducibly in relation to a defined standard. If your monitor has a color cast, your prints may not match the colors you anticipated. Whether it's worth it for you depends upon how critical your color needs are. The Elite is the most advanced of their 3 Spyders. It sounds like the Spyder4Express might meet your needs and it's half the price.KATHLEEN B : Keith,
It's tricky. I, too, have a Mac. However, the results you get depend on the ambient lighting of the room your computer is in. I get completely different results when I run it in the daytime (with shades drawn) and at night. Neither gives me perfect color match on screen and on print. Normally I get what looks right on the screen and then bump up the brightness 30% to get a print that looks the same.
Good luck!KEITH K : Thanks, is it plug and play or do I need to reconfigure anything?BRIAN J : Since you don't ask for the lab to color correct you images, by calibrating you monitor it will help your photographs match what you see on your screen more closely. By having the lab color correct on top of that, they will take the color profile that is embedded in the image and use that along with other calibration methods to ensure your photograph matches as closely as possible what you see on your monitor. Personally I calibrate my iMac and MacBook Pro once a month and always have the lab (I use Bay Photo) color correct as well.
Shopper : Anyone tried running Spyder4 Elite on Maverick? Any problems?THOMAS S : I've run Spyder 4 Elite on Maverick twice without any problems. Runs the same as always. Quick, easy, and accurate.JOHN E : Not sure what u r referring to...maverick..ran it against Dell monitor.. All went well..have used it several times.. Good product
.WILLIAM B : Spyder4Elite w/cradle & software CD is the instrument I bought for calibrating my monitor. It works very well for OS 10.8.5, and the manufacturer says it should work well for the new operating system. There have been a small number of claims of people having problems in using Spyder4 with Maverick. I have the feeling that Spyder 4 will usually work OK with the new operating system. But I am not upgrading to Maverick because I just achieved calibration recently, and I don't want to blow myself out of the water by changing my OS. I would expect that soon some information will be forthcoming to clarify the status of Maverick. It would seem that the manufacturer would have to clarify this pretty soon; most of us won't hold off on Maverick forever.WILLIAM Z : Sorry but I have not tried running Spyder4 Elite on Maverick. LARRY M : Sorry, only used it on Windows, but works well on both XP & 7, desktop & laptop with Nvidia GeForce 405 & Intel 4000 graphics.FRED C : No, not familular with Maverick. It works very well with the system that I use.
Shopper : what is the difference between this and the spyder pro4?RAHUL S : Main difference between Pro and Elite version is the number of monitors that can be calibrated. I believe, Pro version limits this number to just one monitor attached to one computer, whereas one can calibrate unlimited numbers of monitors with Elite version. With Elite version, one can also calibrate dual or more moniotrs attached to one computer.
The hardware (colorimeter) and basic software interface remain the same.MARK M : This one works with room lights on.LOUIS S : The 3 versions of the Sypder4 have different degrees of automation and flexibility. Datacolor has a good summary here on its website. Search for Spyder4Elite, then scroll down and click on Product Comparison.KARIN L : Not sure, look at the specs? We purchased the Elite and it's great! Our laptop monitor and attached 23" monitor have identical perfect color.
