CARMEN E : I do some photography and tend to print 8 x 10 black and white, how are the prints?EDWARD G : I have only printed 5x7 color with Epson paper, not 8x10. The color pictures are great & they print very quickly. I don't see why the B&W wouldn't be excellent. Edit in Photo Shop & set PS to manage the printing-not the printer. Use Epson paper & ink. I would be surprised if they did not meet your expectations. The color looks exactly as on the monitor. Hope this helps. RegardsANDREW R : This printer may not provide optimal quality black and white printing. For best quality black and white (monochrome, grayscale) printing you would need a printer that provides several shades of black, unfortunately this printer only offers one.

For best results it is best to make sure you have the appropriate pinter and paper profiles installed on your computer.

Epson Artisan 837

Epson makes good printers and scanners. Ink usage is high, and it is expensive, but that is where they make their money, and why they can sell the device for under $150. Print quality is excellent, and in some respects, rivals my R1900.

Replaced Artison 800 with 837

I replaced my 800, which was nearing the end of its life cycle, with the 837. I'm very pleased with it. Excellent photo quality as well as useful features such as wi-fi and airprint. Very pleased.

Required one call to support to get it working, but they were helpful and solved the issue with one try. (Had to delete printer from list and then add it back.) The wi-fi works beautifully. I downloaded the software for Mac Lion o.s. and Apple automatically found the updates and installed them. The design is very nice, and the front panel is actually useful.
