Shopper : Does it scan photosin a batch form quickly?D L : I haven't used it to scan photos via the doc feeder for a couple of reasons... non-standard size of photos and fears of scratching them being the main ones. But also I find that the scanner may slightly skew the object being scanned, meaning that any such scans would have to be re-done in the case of a photograph. I certainly would not trust the document feeder for old or irreplaceable photographs. It is possible to put photographs in some sort of clear scanning envelope, but this is just another way of making work for yourself, and now you have another consideration (and layer) in getting good images.STANTON N : No. The document feeder will not handle small sizes like 4 X 6. Also, most photos are too thick to go through the feeder consistantly, and mixing document sizes and thicknesses does work. However, it does a great job with standard size and thickness of paper for scanning long documents.KEVIN G : I have not used it on photos or any heavy stock material. It does bend the input paper to put the source onto the platten, so I wouldn't necessarily trust it with standard photostock paper. YMMV

Does what I want, no real problems

I already had the Epson V500 Flatbed which worked well. But I had stacks of personal paper records -- mortgage documents, insurance documents, full-page service records that I wanted to scan and then shred. The ADF was trivial to install. Unfortunately, no drivers existed for the Mac OS I was running (preview copy of Mountain Lion). I do run parallels on the machine and was able to install the windows 7 drivers and the scanner worked like a charm. I was able to scan two sided documents by passing the stack of documents through twice and then using Mac's Preview program to reorder the pages. Sweet. If I was initially going for a multipage scanner, I might not consider going this route due to total cost, but the scanning is superior . 4/5 stars primarily due to cost.
