Questions & Answers

K M : Can this printer be used to print on fabric?
TED P : Does this printer use ink cartridges similar to the Stylus Pro 3800?RACHEL G : No cartridges. It uses ink bottles. Easy to see as it’s filling the tanks and it stops filling automatically when done.
Albert A : Can Matt black be manually made default ink?Robert S : Yes, you can choose the default 'black ink'. Normally the printer will automatically choose the black ink type depending upon the media being used, but you can choose the default type to use.BRYANT R : yes. whatever the last print was (matte black or photo black) the printer will remain in that configuration until you print in the other black or you manually change the type of black at the printer :)ALAN D : I'm not an expert but to get the Epson P800 to print with Matt black ink you have to set your paper preference to Matte Paper. So, effectively, matte ink is the default if you first set your default paper as matte.JAKE R : Matt or Gloss Black is determined by the paper medium used.

Astonishing Quality

The craftsmanship of the printer is superb. The print quality, superb. The instructions superb. There isn't a single thing wrong with this printer. It's a professional quality printer at a very affordable price. Worth twice the cost.

Do you enjoy reinstalling your printer every month?

This printer does a beautiful job printing. Very frustrating to have to reinstall the printer frequently. I didn't have this problem with my R3000. I'm running with a Mac Book Pro and Catalina, up to date. I'm beginning to wonder if the printer is compatible with the software. In addition, the manual is not real clear--got to run, time to reinstall.

Print problems

I have had this for several months and CANNOT get rid of the Magenta Color Cast in my prints. I see online that many others are having the same problem but haven’t found a successful solution to this troublesome issue.

Fine when it works

Great prints when it works but the drivers have to be reloaded every few months. It gets strange margin and size errors with no clear answer from Epson.

Easy Setup

Easy setup to make the Epson P800 run on WiFi. I have had much harder printers to set up in the past and was dredding this momnet. With the help from the download on Epsons webpage I had easy step-by-step instructions and never had a single issue during the entire process!

My first photo printer was Epson 3880. 8 years of hard work.

After 8 years of solid hard work [no issues] it finally failed. I liked it so much, I stayed with Epson. Now I am working with a SureColor P800. I have faith in Epson. It is set up and the test page printed perfectly. I'm pleased. jb

Beware of Pizza Wheels...

Went with refurbished to save some money. I've been through 4 replacement units in total due to a variety of issues such as printer roller wheels (AKA "Pizza Wheels) and expired ink cartridges. For matte paper and fine art paper this printer works great (hence two stars) but I have to deduct two stars from the 5 as every glossy paper with photo black ink and dark backgrounds has the dreaded pizza wheels. They are not very visible to the untrained eye, but once you see them, you can't forget them. Deduct another star as a printer of this price range (in my opinion) should have zero issues with printer roller wheels. For example, I purchased a Canon Pro 100 to compare (which is much cheaper) and no issues with pizza wheels. You need to think carefully about this printer and know what you're getting into. Epson support is great-they'll send you replacement units if needed-but this printer is not without it's limitations.

it worked

I just unpacked and set up the machine. outside of forgetting my wi-fi network password about nine times, set-up was pretty uneventful (they use about 4.26 miles of blue tape to protect the machine during shipping, which killed my fingernails during removal). Haven't tried it yet, but I'll try moving it to its permanent location once I check and see if my hernia's up to it.

Very good tech support

I bought the printer two months ago but only got around to installing it today. I had a bit of trouble, called tech support, and Chris (?) helped me solve my problem and finish the setup.

The right decision.

I debate between the purchase of the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 and the Epson Sure Color. I purchase the Epson and glad I did. The print quality and colors are outstanding.

So far so good!

The P800 arrived in excellent condition. Setup was easy and it followed the included instructions to the tee. I've only printed a few test sheets, nothing heavy yet so I will update this review as I put it through the paces. I read many many (did I already say many?) reviews leading up to this purchase so I was a bit nervous when it arrived. Some folks say they had issues with setup, others had feed issues, etc. Most we’re positive so I took the plunge. It’s an expensive item but hopefully well worth the expenditure. Like with many in my position (wanting to purchase a professional grade photo printer), it came down to the P800 or the Canon P1000. Both look to be amazing printers but it came down to the roll capability of the P800 along with a bit lower price tag. More positive reviews for the P800 as well. So not having used either, I made my choice using advertised capability, many user reviews, and YouTube videos. And I have to say the look of this beast played a small role as well. As a side note, I was a bit concerned that this model has been on the market going on 6 years and new hardware and ink technology would be out shortly. I contacted Epson directly about my concern and they said they have no such plans in the pipeline. My hope is that I have many years of amazing prints. I will update this review (if able) when I get some more ink through the tubes! Kurt

Upgrade from my 3880

I had my 3880 for five years, it had issues today and now it’s broken, went out and bought a P800 and so far so good. I guess I’m going all in on OEM cartriages so this will be the first time in 25 years, always used Ink Tank Systems from my 1440, 2450, R1900, R2400, 3880 to now so I’m excited because I know the results will be amazing. It was a no brainer on what to buy, just needed to get an extra set of cartriages, I think 3 sets will make me feel totally comfortable. Cheers.

Works great When it works

This P800 Sure Color printer has broken down on several different times in the past 1.7 years. I was sent a new (refurbished ) printer in May 2019 and it is already not working again. It produces beautiful prints when it works.

Professional Printing at Home

The pleasure we get from printing our own pictures in the convience of our home is remarkable. Recently our Grandson’s soccer Team won his Division championship. We ordered a 5”x7” Soccer frame with his Team Name and “Viola” created a wonderful print to go with it, cropped exactly as we wanted it!

It’s not as good as the stylus 3880

Hmmm, the epson P800 is just all right. I had the stylus 3880 and was told that it couldn’t be fixed, this was the equivalent or replacement. So, while the quality of printing is quite nice, the fine art sheet feeder, is absolutely NOT an improvement over the stylus 3880. What a pain! I have to still recommend this product, as there is no other option if you had the 3880, but I would prefer to have my 3880 back.

Great replacement for 3880

Superb replacement for Epson 3880 with several excellent upgrades. Much better at handling thicker media including poster board and canvas plus the option of adding roll media. Ink remains very expensive and is a couple dollars more per cartridge than for the 3880 although they appear to be same ink and volume. Build quality seems a little more flimsy than the 3880, particularly the front paper feed slot which is required for thicker media. But overall it works very well. Like the 3880, prints are outstanding and professional quality. I am very pleased with the printer.

Quality Printer

By PAUL N.

Replaced Epson 2200, which I used for about 12 years (and still working). Initial comparisons (on one color image) between the 2 printers was not as great as I hoped, but going forward the P800 will be a big plus. I look forward to the larger size papers it can take (17x22 vs.13x19), and the increased ink cartridge size should be a plus. The 2200 produced limited tonal ranges in B&W (highlights & darks blocky), and I can see the P800 can produce much greater range in the few B&W prints I ...

Outstanding Printer. Worthy successor to 3880

By Not h.

The printhead on my 3880 was in need of replacement after 7 years of service, so upgraded to the P800. This printer is a replica of the 3880 in many ways, but in some important ways is a definite improvement. Most significant are, IMHO, are: 1) An inkset, along with improved profiles from Epson, and Ilford respectively to their respective media, which produce meaningfully improved congruence between calibrated monitor and printer output which really makes attention to small color and tonal va...
