Questions & Answers

Heather R : Can I use this to print films for screen printing and will it cut the films of I purchase the accessory to hold a roll?GREG T : Hi,... I used to do some silk screen printing (if that's what your talking about). The P900 is a "pigment" printer verses an "ink"-jet printer. "Ink" is made from vegetable sources and eventually the image fades because of exposure to UV light. "Pigments" come from earth sources (as with yellow from sulfur). Pigment sources do not "fade" in UV light. I am a retired artist and print many images from my original paintings. I do not see the correlation with an image printer to make a film image, (let alone cutting) for silk screen application. I imagine silk screen preparation machines are available somewhere, but I am not "up" on that subject. Good luck on your quest, not sure if this helps.............G.KEN B : I do not know anything about film but as I understand it the printer does not include a cutter in the roll accessory. You have to cut manually.
RICHARD L : Does this printer include roll paper adapter?ADRIA A : Not that I can see.THOMAS G : Unfortunately, no, it is sold separately!PAMELA D : You have to purchase separately.KEN B : No it does not. You have to purchase one.
christine c : So does this come with one set of inks or two?

Beautiful prints... when it decides to print properly.

I too was an early purchaser of the P900 printer, when there were very few reviews available. I've had it several years now and I just visited the website to quickly look for measurements (in need of a new stand to set it on). Imagine my surprise (ha) when I discovered the many negative reviews. I'm glad to know I'm not alone and mine wasn't just the complete lemon I thought it was, but I'm not at all happy that others have also had to deal with this headache. Where to even begin... If you're on the hunt for a fine art printer, there's probably something much more functional out there. I can't speak to the roll functionality, as I've always used only sheets. That said, mine accepted Epson's exhibition canvas through the rear feed when I first got it and the prints were lovely. Within a few weeks, it would no longer take canvas (or anything else thicker than regular old flimsy printer paper). I reached out to Epson, the responses were far less than helpful, suggesting that I shouldn't be using the rear feed for anything thick. Okay, so I'll use the front tray for canvas, but it should still be able to accept thin cardstock through the rear feed, right? Even my $30 printer can do that. At first, I thought it had something to do with a firmware update, but it's possible it's something to do with the sensors. I've read the manual and tried every setting/suggestion possible and finally gave up. I print everything via the front feed. Onward to the front feed... It typically sounds like it's going to break when I open and close it, but so far it hasn't. Knock on wood. It doesn't always like to hold the canvas/paper in place properly these days. Increasingly, toward the end of a print job, it will all of a sudden shift and the last inch of my print will be smeared, out of alignment, etc. and I'm forced to reprint. Now let's talk about the front feed and it's acceptance of paper/canvas. If there's even the tiniest curl to either, it will not load. I have spent as much as 30 minutes trying to perfectly flatten/load a sheet. The roll attachment would solve this, but I refuse to sink more money into this printer. The frustrating part about the curling is that I'm using Epson's paper and canvas, stored in the big flat boxes they come in. The amount of ink and paper (and money) I've wasted with this printer is completely absurd. Here's the pro and the only reason it isn't yet in the trash bin: I'm a fine artist/painter and when it prints properly, the prints are stunning! Once color corrected properly, they look nearly identical to my originals. From that standpoint, it lives up to the Epson name. Unfortunately, for the price, it's not printing or feeding properly nearly often enough. I also purchased it to print greeting cards. Somehow, it can't manage those either. The rear feed will only accept the paper one out of ten tries (if that) and when it does, they never feed in consistently, leaving the borders uneven. The cards are too small for the front feed to accept. Last, but not least, there's an issue with my newer MacBook and the the paper settings in Photoshop. When I update the OS, some of the paper settings disappear. After discovering multiple other complaints about this online, I finally discovered that my particular issue could be solved by using the Epson media installer to delete and re-register the ones that weren't showing up. Figuring that out also sucked weeks of time from me. It may not affect you, but if you're using a Mac, keep it in mind. It's a hassle. None of these complaints are user error - I fully understand how to use the printer and properly load paper. Think twice before taking a chance on this particular model. I wish I had made a different decision. If you decide to purchase this printer despite reading this, be sure to do a test print/nozzle check on a daily or every other day basis. The print heads like to clog if you let them sit without use for a few days.

What a letdown and waste.

When it works, it is great. Have used it for approximately 75 prints in 2 years and have had nothing but feed problems..even hand feeding 1 at a time..it JAMS. Tried to print today and keeps jamming and saying there is a jam and paper in it and did not have paper loaded. Looked everywhere in the printer..no paper..yet it still wont run. Spent an hour doing this. Tired of fooling with it. I have loyally and spoke highly of and used Epson photo printers since early 2000's(17" ones). All were great until this one. Maybe its time to switch to Canon

seriously, don't buy from Epson, period.

Following up on my previous review. The Epson Support Team attached a response to my original review suggesting I call the Support Team if "the problem still persists". I called the Support Team, letting them know that the problem, which is that my printer is broken and useless after owning it for too short of a time for this to be considered reasonable or acceptable, was still in fact, "persisting". They informed me the response was an automatic response, and they still had nothing to offer in terms of replacing their malfunctioning and useless product.

Worst Epson Printer EVER...

I bought this printer to print photograhpy and note cards. Has to be the worst printer Epson has put on the market. The printer will not pull card stock to print. To date there has been no fix and Epson has offered no support that I can find on even addressing the issue. Epson if you have a fix for this huge flaw please let me know..

terrible printer, worse service

Broken after 2 years. Epson offers zero help other than bring it to service center in a different state. I run a small business from home, and cannot be without a printer for even a day, let alone weeks. Absolutely unacceptable. Do not buy.

Buyer Beware

I can not recommend buying this product. I purchased the P900 after many years of satisfied use with my Epson 4880 printer. 11 months after purchasing my initial printer head failed. Epson sent me a replacement that was refurbished. It is now 10 months later, with moderate usage, and my replacement has also failed. The build quality of these Epson printers is not adequate to hold up for even a year of use.

Junkie printer

We had to return the new one for jamming/bending the paper and now the replacement printer says paper jam but it's not. They won't honor another replacement or fix it because the warranty started from the first purchase. This was purchased for my photos and hub is a graphic designer. Not sure what to do. Epson used to be the one for high end graphic design output. Now biz is halted until we figure out a solution.

High Quality Photo Printer

I bought the printer from Adorama in end 2022. Usually do not write reviews but felt need to share two years experience. Epson SC P900 produces high quality prints which I love. I normally print in standard print quality and usually A2 size. I mainly photograph to print and not much for the web. Colors just stand out. Ink usage has been reasonable. I print through Epson Print Layout which I find very simple to use. Also Epson technical support has been quite responsive and helpful. So far it's been a great printer for my needs.

Outstanding photo printer. I've been using Epson photo printers for several years, and this is the best one yet. The ink cartridges go a long ways and the color is superb.

Super impressive printer

I am very happy with the results from this printer. I did a ton of research before making the purchase as well asking a few photographer friends of mine their opinions. Epson was recommended for the quality of their inks and their excellent line of professional papers. So far, I've been using the printer for about four months. I love the results, especially with the right papers. The printer was easy to set up and configure. I use the Epson print layout software and it seems to work very well. The colors are phenomenal. Detail is also excellent. Obviously a lot depends on the resolution of the file and the paper type. I usually print 11x14 and 13x19. I have only printed 17x22 once. So, if I could go back and start again I'd get the P700, however it is nice having the option for big prints. Negatives... the ink is crazy expensive, print selectively. It also takes up a lot of space when the paper trays are open. Make sure you have a good spot for it. Other than that, this is a serious pro unit.

Hood Winked

I bought this printer to use on my new Mac Mini running their latest operating system Sequoia . After many attempts to print and several hours on the phone with Epson Technical support, I discovered that Epson does not have a print driver for the new Apple Operating system and they have no knowledge of when one will be available. Why didn't Epson arrange for their dealers to state that Mac users should be aware that Epson does not yet have a print driver for this printer that works with MAC OS 15 ????

Best color printer I've owned to date.

From the first print, right out of the box, till now, I have been very pleased by the P900's consistent high print quality and ease of use from my Mac. Monitor calibration, Adobe RGB88 images, and paper profiles (mostly on Moab Lasal Exhibition Luster). I've made some very fine prints up to 13"x19" so far. That said, the printing software interface needs to be rethought, made more intuitive, and less quirky to use.

Purchase at your own risk.

I am a professional artist and educator. The P900 I purchased just two years ago is trash. Printer head is broken and I am in for a $500 repair if I decide to keep it. I have been a loyal Epson owner and operator for decades - my school has used three P700's at my insistence. I would not recommend the P900 - the first one I purchased did not properly charge the inks. Epson sent a replacement (used). I insisted a new one and they finally sent a replacement. My P900 was carefully used and did not hold up to life expectancy. 2 years? I am seriously looking at Canon now. I am very disappointed and would not recommend this printer.

Wasted Day

Bought new today from a local retailer to replace an R2400 I basically took to the grave. The P900 feels cheap, real cheap in comparison...but I like that it's easy enough to move around had has large ink carts. Mine came out of the store in a pristine box, corners were even still sharp. Enjoyed peeling every piece of blue tape off. Powered it on to install the primer carts and let it charge, full set of new carts on the desk next to it. It finished and I requested a nozzle check page. The light came on and I watched it print nothing and spit out a blank sheet. Further investigation revealed ink had only made it an inch or so into the lines going to the head. Google MD revealed others have had this issue and needed a replacement printer. Glad I bought locally and was able to get a full refund. Run, I'll never get this day of my life back!

Buy it from Epson directly!

I've been very happy with the P900 so far after years of good service from my R3000. The purchase process with Epson and pricing were excellent. In a purchase of this size, it's better to deal directly than to have a firm in between. Trust me on that!

Some concerns to be aware of

When working this printer is amazing and delivers high quality prints. Combined with the roll adapter this printer is hard to beat. That being said I am on my 5th P900 in 1 year. Each time a different issue has occurred from the mother board frying, the rollers not feeding, and hardware breaking. Each time the printer has failed I have called the warranty line and they send me a refurbished model, which then brakes. I am told I need to purchase another 1 year warranty as the only solution so I can continue to receive refurbished models as they break. In sum, I have printed less than 100ft of paper over 5 printers. So if you don't mind calls to the warranty line and trips to Fed-Ex every couple months you are rewarded with amazing print quality. The warranty and service line has always been polite and helpful. But it is hard to believe there is no other solution besides sending me refurbished models that continue to break and spending "the rebate" on another 1 year warranty. Would love a different solution or a "new printer and new warranty". $1350 seems to be a lot money to spend for a product that has failed and needed replacement 5x in one year.

Disappointing

Did not even last a year before it stopped working. Epson sent me a REFURBISHED printer (not a new one). I was told that if I had the printer more than 30 days they would only replace it with a refurbished printer. Very disappointing that this printer didn't hold up.

Cannot recommend

Terrible printer. Slow. Initial P900 delivered and installed did not work at all. Replacement delivered at that time has now failed within one year. Epson's options to honor their warranty are lousy and place all the burden on the customer. Cannot recommend. I had the P800 and it was wonderful!!!

Sophisticated but a bit temperamental.

The SC-P900 is a temperamental machine that make outstanding prints. Most of the problems I've had with it comes from paper that is not nice and flat. Unfortunately a lot of paper comes right out of the box with curved edges or a curve in general. You MUST have flat paper to keep this printer happy so you must learn how to uncurve it which is usually not too difficult. I also had a couple problems because the rear paper feeder mechanism was not securely snapped in on both sides so watch out for that. I wish the front paper feeder mechanism was more robust. I broke mine just trying to figure out how to use it. Be nice and gentle with it until you figure it out. With the negatives out of the way, the positives are that it makes amazing prints from the top feeder and the front feeder and the roll feeder. I would recommend the printer to those who will appreciate it is a very sophisticated piece of equipment that needs to be treated with respect. For Epson I would recommend that a future design would be a bit more robust even it it means a larger footprint or weight.

P 900 Printer

I've owned an Epson printer from the 2000 and 2200 to the 7900. I had to buy this P900 after my last one died within a year and a half. It took 3 different printers before I received one that worked. Although, looking back it did make a weird noise when loading the paper. A noise that this one doesn't have. I'm glad and relieved, this time, that I received a working printer right from the start. I hope this one last longer than a year.

HATE THIS PRINTER

I've had this printer for a couple of years now and I loth it. Absolutely can not stand to print with it. I have a P800 also and it runs circles around the P900. I can hit print for my P800 and P900 at the same time and the P800 spits out 50 prints compared to the 900's mere 5 sheets. Yes you read that right, 5 whole prints in the same amount of time. UGH!!!! And to think this was the upgrade to the P800. I've hated this printed since the day I bought it and ran it for the first time. Waste of money.

I bought a Sure color P900 and it worked well for a while. When the warranty ran out the ink ports became plugged. The repair man said that it would be a very expensive job to fix the problem because the computers are not easy to work on. He recommended buying a new photo printer. Frustrated.

Great printer

I've had this printer 1.5 years now. The print head hardly ever needs to be cleaned. I have the rear roll option attachment which works very well. Nice job Epson. My only complaint is the prompting about "low inks" when starting a print job (in which have to click continue twice to start the job.)

The Worst Printer Ever Made

I have owned three Epson large format printers and Epson has even paid me to go in to help with product development in the past. I loved the 3880, but it seems since then, quality has been sacrificed for product weight. Professionals do not have time to deal with all the issues this printer has. The first week I used it and it was brand new, I had to do so many nozzle checks and multiple calls to tech support because there were lines through prints. It went through all the ink the printer came with and I had to change the maintenance cartridge before even getting a print that didn't have lines in it. And the paper feeder/holder is useless. It will not stay up and is very flimsy. The worst part is that my husband accidentally thew away the box, so I could not return it or get the rebate. I contacted Epson and they said there was nothing I can do about it. I guess I will be switching to a different company for a printer.

Fantastic printer!

This printer works amazing! Love the quality and love that I can print from a moble device/tablet ??

Epson P900 is a winner!

By Richard K.

I've owned a Epson R2880 wide format printer for many years. I was very satisfied with that printer, but wanted to be able to print slightly larger prints, (16 x 20, 17 x 22). After setting up the P900 and learning the interface, I printed several prints and was very very impressed with the quality and fidelity of the prints. I expect to be quite happy with this printer for many years to come!

Bring your creative vision to life with the advanced SureColor P900 17" Wide Format Wireless Inkjet Photo Printer. This high-quality, professional-grade printer is a game-changer in the world of photography, offering the same large-format printing technology used by the world's leading photographers, but in a sleek, compact design perfect for your desktop.
