Very fast , good quality

I purchased this scanner to replace my Kodak PS-410. I used te Kodak for over 10 years. I need to replace it due to the upgrade to Windows 10, which the Kodak is not will not work with. This was an excellent replacement and the service from Epson was above and beyond.

Truly Fast

Definitely runs the photos through quickly and accurately. And the quality is just as good as any flatbed scanner.

omg where has this been all my life??

i bought this because my grandma is moving and wanted to make all her photos digital. she has tons and tons. i also have tons. we have been orgnazing and scanning stacks in a few hours a night for about a week. i think we are getting close to the end with hers. it has saved us so much time. we love the fact that it scans the backs of the photo at the same time as the front. the only thing we dont like is it wont scan polaroid pictures so we have to do them with a glass top scanner.

I love this scanner!!!!

I bought this scanner a few weeks ago. I bought it refurbished and as far as I can see, just like new. I had been using a flatbed scanner prior to this. I have hundreds of old photos I’ll never do anything with. But I wanted them preserved forever. Now I can pick and choose, make photo albums, or just make copies for all interested. Scanning 30 pics at a time vs 2 or 3 is fabulous. It’s about the fastest thing ever!!! I organize my pics by person, dates or places, make a folder and scan each category. It’s a process, but simple as pie. The directions were easy. Not for someone who isn’t serious about scanning, but I just love it.

Love the Epson FF 640

I purchased the Epson FF640 a month ago. I have been very pleased with this scanner. I have scanned over 7,000 photos from the '80s and '90s and have had very little problems. I clean it after a few hours of use. It's simple to use and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It took me a long time to decide on which scanner to purchase and read many reviews. It has made my life simpler. I had tried both a flatbed scanner and a scanner stick; and both took way to long and a lot of frustration. The results have been greater than I ever expected. Thank you Epson for a great product!

Fast and Clear

It has helped us grow our business by the speed it has to process more office record papers per day. My understanding of how it operates has been good so far. We would recommend this product to others.

Good, quick scans

I have used this scanner for thousands of family photos and I'm generally pleased. It is much faster than a flatbed and the resulting images are quite good, generally capturing the visible detail in photographic prints. The 600 dpi resolution is quite adequate for all but the most specialized prints. The FastFoto software offers the option to correct or enhance the image, and it can optionally save both the as-scanned image and the adjusted one. The software can also detect information on the back of a photo and save it as a separate JPEG with a letter appended to the file name of the front image. Like any automatic process, though, one should carefully check the results. I often tweak the images a bit along with choosing which one to save in each pair. Note that the document/print feeder means that, unlike with a flat-bed scanner, you cannot adjust the scan parameters in a preview and then do a detailed scan without re-inserting and re-scanning, which may result in a slightly shifted image; only the more complex Epson Scan 2 software even has a Preview option. The automatic adjustments in FastFoto are somewhat hit or miss. Usually, the most noticeable adjustment is an increase in contrast, but on a faded photo it can sometimes give me a good head start on trying to recover color or contrast. It also sometimes finds and corrects red eye. I usually end up using the raw scan, though, because the contrast increase is a bit heavy-handed and often loses shadow and highlight detail from the prints that already have limited dynamic range compared to the original slides or negatives. The feed mechanism sometimes struggles, with rare multiple feeds or jams. Once in a while part of a photo will be stretched in the scan direction, apparently because the feed rollers were slipping, and running the photo through again will often result in the same distortion. It may be due to some imperceptible surface defect or contamination on the photo, but if so I can't see it and carefully cleaning the photo and rollers seldom has any effect. Usually, turning the photo 90 or 180 degrees and scanning it again solves the problem. The user's guide cautions against loading Polaroid photos, but I have not had a problem with them.

Real easy to use and lightning fast. Once you get the photos organized its really only a matter of a few minutes before they are all scanned. Very impressed.

Time & Money Saving Machine

I bought this scanner hoping it would help speed up my winter project of putting 40 years worth of family memories in the cloud for safe keeping and easy access for everyone. It is fantastic, it is lightning fast and very user friendly! I sort piles to be saved in a folder I have made ahead of time, then sort those by size and put 30+ photos in tray and hit the button, all photos scanned (both sides) in seconds. They are saved in the folder I chose ahead of the scan. You can save a little editing time by sorting them by orientation before scanning. I would highly recommend this scanner for any large project you have. I love it. Worth every penny.

Great Product

I have scanned hundreds of pictures so far and am very satisfied with this product. I have a few pictures that are really dark and I haven't figured out how to correct the image but other than that it has done everything I have needed it too.

AWESOME & FAST PHOTO SCANNING

This little gem is so worth the money! I have thousands of family photos and no space to store albums so been looking for a photo scanner that you could load and feed to go completely digital and finally Epson has a great one! THANK YOU, EPSON! Set up is easy and operation is so simple. It will even scan what is written on the back of photo if you choose that option!! I will be able to work my way through my old albums and loose photos in record time. BTW, be sure to keep the inside of scanner cleaned - there is a cloth that was included with mine and the software you download even reminds you to clean it often!

got all my photo's scanned ,but it made doubles of so many of them ,not sure why. now don't know how to get rid of thousands of doubles ,it will take hours to go thru them all . you need to tell people they can do polaroids if they turn them sideways and do one or two at time . it did jam up a bit to often to suit me but am glad i got everything scanned. would be nice to have a option to get rid of doubles on it and also option to transfer to thumbdrive .

Does a great job

I have loved this scanner until something happened with my driver - after lots of attempts to resolve Ihad to completely uninstall and reinstall everything - fingers crossed that all will work now, … Required me to register as if new, but I am pretty sure I already registered this product. Oh well

Already paid for itself

Scanned 10,000 pictures in one week. Would have cost over $3,000 to have it done professionally.

What an amazing scanner!

I've just had my FF-640 for a day now, but what an amazing scanner it is. I'm doing a job for a client involving scanning about 20,000 4x6 photos. An impossible task with a flatbed scanner. But with the FF-640, it's just flying through the stacks of photos. And this is at the 600 dpi setting. I also found that the scans worked best, and gave best results, without any enhancements. The scanner performs every bit as fast as advertised, is easy to set-up, and download software for. The only "work" is if creating sub-folders and special file names (which then go on to run automatically) to help in your organizing

Scanner works great; software is lacking.

I bought this recently for scanning hundreds of home photos. I have no issues with the scanner. The resolution, quality & speed of scanning are all great. However, I have dozens of photos from the 70's & 80's that were printed on textured paper. Even with very good editing software, the texture shows up in my edited photos. In the enhancement settings of the Fastfoto scanning program I would like to see a "Descreen" or "Grain Removal" function included to eliminate or reduce paper texture in the scanned output. If it were not for this omission, I would have given the scanner 5 stars.

Great Scanner

I purchased this in December and starting scanning photo's the 1st of January and I am already done with 90% of my photo's, which comprised about 100 photo albums. This scanner is fast and the pictures turn out great. You can opt to have the scanner scan each picture twice with their photo correction. That took too much time to then go through each photo so I changed that option to only scan in each picture once. I now need to decided what to do with the scanner when I am completely done, rent it out, sale it etc?

Really Fast Scanner!

The FF-640 scanner scans at a high speed, makes quick work out of a stack of photos. The only problems I've had is that for each initial scan it will grab two or three photos out of the start of nearly each scan, and send them through at the same time (which means it didn't scan any or missed two etc.) Subsequent scans of the same stack it grabs one at a time. Fairly frequent jams which requires one to stop the machine, clear a jam and continue. Overall, a pretty decent machine.

Worth Every Penny

I have never written a review for a product; however, I felt I needed to with this one. I love this scanner. My grandmother died recently and left us over 8000 family photos. Originally I was scanning them in one by one on my home flatbed scanner. I may have gotten 30 pictures scanned this way before I was over the whole process. I then looked into sending them to a digital processing service, but with 8,000 photos that was going to be expensive. I am so glad I found this scanner. In one day alone, I was able to scan, edit and catalog over 800 photos. Definitely worth the money.

Saving Family Memories Fast

I have had the FF-640 for six weeks. I have found it very easy to use and efficient. After 50 years of marriage and raising 5 children who are all over 40, it was time to digitilized all our photos. I have easily 12 years or 1.5GB of photos already.

A bit disappointed

I hope my concerns will reach the Epson-folks and maybe it's an easy fix … I have scanned thousands of photos and have about that many to go to fully archive my pre-digital photos. While the image quality is very good and the double-sided copying is especially useful, my scanner distorts images when I use the auto feed, regardless of the number of photos, and the scanner no longer uploads selected images to the cloud as it once did. Hey, Epson, call me!

Awesome

Great machine! On low quality setting (which is perfectly fine for digitizing old snapshots) it only takes about one second per photo to scan. I scanned a couple thousand old snapshots with barely any mis-feeds.

Perfect product

By new u.

I've scanned 1600 photos so far and NO problems. (No white line from dust). The main reason for purchasing is the scanning the back of photo feature. I'm impressed that you can stack different size pictures at the same time and they all come out perfectly. I've noticed some photos going through the scanner crooked, but the software figures it out. My only complaint is that the automatic correction options didn't produce good results consistently

This scanner changed my plans

By Jimba100

Retired 10 months ago and planned to organize all my boxes of pictures. After I purchased the FF-640 and put my 1st document through, my plans quickly changed. Very impressed by the speed and simplicity of this scanner. I now have all my invoices and bills online, and no longer keep any paper records I get. Still have more paper files to convert. Hope I can get back to my plan of scanning pictures soon. I have recommended this scanner to a number of people.
