I guess I got the one in a million that passed the Quality Assurance Dept and still had failures? Well, in defense of Epson, they repaired the P-6000 without charge, paid shipping both ways and upgraded all the software. I have carried my Epson through many airports and security points without issue. I must say this unit even survived being dropped by TSA! I am glad I purchased the Epson for photo storage during my travels!!!

I used the P6000 for the first time when I went on vacation to Thailand. Downloading the pictures from my camera's CompactFlash was easy and simply. Reviewing the pictures on the P6000 was better than viewing them on my camera.

This viewer has a huge 80GB hard drive, and a simple interface that allows you to download the contents of your memory cards (SD and Compact Flash, with others when using a USB adapter) easily. You can review your photos on the high quality LCD screen, and even specify that the preview use the Adobe color space standard. You can also set the unit to download from the memory card, and after verifying the download, erase the images from the card, which is easier than doing so inside the camera. The viewer can be interfaced through a USB port to a PC or MAC, and files accessed, downloaded from, and even uploaded to the device. File management is much easier using a PC, but can also be done from the viewer's interface. The viewer accepts JPEG and RAW image data, as well as MPEG4 video files. The one drawback I found with the unit was that it is very particular about the type of MPEG4 video. The manual has a chart, but I'm still not quite sure what it wants. The MPEG4 output from the new Sony Webby camcorder is at best garbled even when the viewer says it's acceptable. One fun thing - you can choose your own wallpaper. Overall this is a great tool, but not a perfect answer to the question of how to keep track of, and view a large number of photos when on the road.

Nice upgrade from the P-3000 (40 GB) model. Sleek and lightweight - beats lugging a laptop everywhere. Screen quality is excellent. Ability to zoom in on specific portions of the image to test sharpness and compare easily to other images in a sequence, and histogram allow me to use this device to select my best shots. Pricey but worth it.
