I want to like this scanner. Images are just ok. The software is circa 2010 and doesn't provide many of the conventions you'd expect in 2020. To use this, you physically have to place a plastic guide on the flatbed. It doesn't clip in and it moves every time you try to dig slides out after scanning. And because of this design, there is no way to avoid getting fingers and dust on the glass unless you wear gloves and have the air off in the house. There is no quick way to use this device due to the loading and unloading process. Do NOT buy this if you have anything more than a handful of slides to scan.

slide cleanup feature works well and the colour enhancement is impressive.

I’m very happy with this scanner. I wanted one that can scan slides and it seems to do a good job. solid and well built.

Hardware is excellent quality for the price. The scans are good and the images clear. The software and user interface is not very good as the instructions for choosing the settings could be more complete. I would have benefited from a step-by-step to scanning slides. Also, there are multiple windows that appear during the process and you have to already have chosen the filename before you start scanning. Only the first window is expandable to your screen, so screens like the preview screen is very small, thus not allowing you to really judge image quality or if you have debris on the picture. This could be a much better project with a revised user interface.

I bought this scanner to scan medium format negatives. It provided great resolution. I also scanned 35mm negatives and slides and am happy with the results. So far I’ve scanned about 2000 film images.

Just scanned my first 300 pictures and couldn't be happier. Haven't even used half of this units features but it has created wonderful results. Highly recommended.

I bought this mainly to scan old photos and it does a pretty nice job. I especially like the fact that you can put a number of photos on the glass at one time. And, the images are pretty darned good. On the other hand, the software is not working well on Windows 10. It stops and gives me error messages. It can be a bit frustrating. I have to reboot the scanner every so often or close the software and reopen it. So, it's not as great as I had hoped. I've only had it a short while - a couple of weeks, so I hope to become better at using some of the features.

So far scanned 200 of 4x6 photos at 2400 and it did well except for color restore that was not great. easy to use speed for 4X6 at 2400 was 2-3 Min. not bad for pictuires you want to keep on jpg. if you need faster just reduce quality

I've tried using other software with it like Silverfast and others, but the standard Epson software works best. I would recommend this highly.

Bought this last year and just start scanning slides. Really works well and is easy to use. Comes with a cd so you may need to use with a pc that has a cd/dvd drive.

I have many old photos that I don't want to lose. I chose the Epson v550 because it can do up to 5 photos at a time and the resolution was high. The 550 met all those standards and more. Easy to set up. Needs a little more explanation on how to get started but once I figured it out things went very smoothly. The quality is exceptional

I purchased this scanner years ago, but did not install it until I had Windows 10 on my computer. The drivers for Windows 10 were not included on the disc that came for set up, but I downloaded them and it installed wonderfully well.

I love WHEN the scanner works! Randomly stop communicating with my computer. Did everything that Everyone says. Compatebility issues...works with Windows 8. For awhile then nothing again and again. Now can't get anything to work. Even reinstalled it. Ready to throw it out. I have wasted SO MUCH TIME. Wouldn't recommend.

The best I can say for this scanner is, it is super easy to use. I purchased it to scan photos to my computer and the quality of the scanned photos is fair. I tried the higher resolution and it doesn't help at all. It is a shame as I invested so much money years ago in a top notch camera and 800 speed film only to have them look so so when scanned with the Epson V550.

The V550 makes great copies of photos and documents but the software could be a little better. The one thing I find to be a pain is that after every scan you need to save it to a file even if all your copies are going to the same place and it seems I am getting duplicate files if I select to over write the old file. Also when I right click on a photo to rename or delete the words are coming up in Chinese. Other than that it copies great.

It is perfect inmast every way for my intended use of scannin/digitizing years of old 35mm film strips. That said, the film holder is very flimsy and requires a lot of fidigiting especially with curled film. I think an improvement would be easy to develop. I have found using a glass cover instead of the flimsy top is better, and I wonder why a completely glass fram couldn't be developed? Only other issue is the restriction to just a few film styes. I have a number of old 120mm strips that dont work with the V550. Would really give it a 4.5, better than good but just a few issues.

So far, i’ve wasted two days trying to get the scanner to work. After finally scanning about 50 photos, I can no longer get it to scan at all. I’ll give it another day before returning it. I’m using Windows 10.

I puchased this two weeks ago to scan my fiance's old family photos. Have scanned nearly three thousand photos in that time. The scanner and software has taken tired looking photos look nearly new.

I purchased this scanner in 2014 and used it extensively. The hardware works well and produces great results. Except for some design flaws - like location of the power switch, which is minor, and flimsy film holders, which is more serious - the scanner is very good. Main complaint is the software - Epson Scan was outdated even 5 years ago. I use Mac, and the 32-bit software (which Epson Scan is) is not supported by Catalina. The newer Epson Scan2 is 64-bit, but it has never been made available as an upgrade for V550 by Epson (I have a different Epson scanner that came with Epson Scan2, but it does not recognize V550). Other alternatives - Image Capture, VueScan, SilverFast etc. either do not support batch film scanning or ICE dust removal feature of the scanner, or both. Besides, third party software is not free and often is more expensive than the scanner itself! Epson really need to offer a replacement for Epson Scan to the owners of V550 and other great scanners that Epson produced not too long ago! Despite the software problems I gave V550 "good" rating, because it is still a great value for the money!

I found that this scanner is very easy to set up and use. The drivers for the scanner are available for download at the Epson web site. I did find that the ABBYY FineReader software included on the CD is not available for downloading from the Epson web site. However, there is a work around, which is free of charge from Google. Upload your scanned image to Google Drive (you need a Google account) then right mouse click on that image. You will see "Open With" and you can select Google Docs. Upon doing that the image will appear in the top of the document and the extracted text will appear below that. The text can then be copied and pasted anywhere as needed. That will work with Microsoft Edge or Chrome. I use Windows Fax and Scan for scanning documents into my computer. The scanner has a rather large footprint so make sure you take that into account before you purchase it. I will say that it is well made and very happy with it.

I have scanned in excess of 3000 slides in the past two years; some of the slides are as old as 60 years. The quality of the slides have ranged from excellent to downright color-shifted. I've been using the manual (professional) mode and adjusting color balance and cleaning up. Overall I am quite pleased with the results. I use ICE when necessary; it isn't totally perfect but it does an overall good job (one of the better cleanups is attached). The manual is not very useful for the amateur; l...

I've had mine 2 yrs. now and it's never failed me. I'm a senior but find it easy to use. There's a couple of good YouTube videos that taught me to use the main purposes that I need. I'd like to learn more about other features that would enhance my artwork that I save in pictures.
