I'm a 53 year old professional photographer who has been making negatives and transparencies of every different shape and size all of my life. 35mm, 35mm Panorama, 6x4.5, 6x6, 6x7, 6x9, 6x17, 4x5, 5x7, and 8x10. This scanner will handle everything! I recently switched to a new 2020 MacBook Pro with USB-C, so I got a USB-C to printer USB, and it works very well! Software is current! It isn't fast by any means, but the files I get are amazing! I just used my calculator on the dimensions of a 4x5 B&W negative. To put it into perspective for the digital photographer...292.3MP!

Bought a while ago but did not have a chance to use it. Used so far for scanning documents. Working well but better instructions would have been helpful for scanning documents and saved me time (included manual was for pictures).

Epson has a solid product in this scanner, however, it does have a learning curve. Setting up is easy. But you must have SilverFast software installed to really use it. I made one basic scan flatbed on a photo and it was excellent with no breaking. However, my project I bought the scanner for is 800 slides from 40 years ago; I finally, after looking at a lot of Silverfast videos and reading manuals over and over, figured out how to scan the slides. The process is slow, but accurate. Lots of work to go, but it does a good job. I decided to use the flatbed as it was more versatile than buying an expensive slide scanner, which I would not need after this project.

I use this scanner to scan negative and positive film. It scans all of them without a problem. The scan then allows me to work the scanned photo on other photo enhancement software. I do not need to look any further for a better scanner.

The Epson V800 used to have a wonderful feature - automatically recognizing all twelve slides in the slide tray and scanning them individually. With the latest EpsonScan 2, the scanner no longer has that feature.

My 9-year-old V700 Photo scanner, the best piece of electronic equipment I've ever owned, suddenly seized up a couple of weeks ago after >20,000 superb photo scans, and I replaced it (also from B&H) with this updated V800. The latter is, thankfully, essentially identical from the user's perspective, and so far I am every bit as pleased with it. I am not tech-savvy but it was a simple, quick, fail-safe installation and there have been no problems.

Big upgrade over the V700. I get really sharp and detailed scans of my 120 film. Don't like the holders as much so i'll probably stick to the old ones or buy from a different company. Scanner is already great and gets even better when using with SilverFast.

I bought this two weeks ago and am about . I’m new to scanning but read the book by Steinhoff as well as Segal prior to starting. I’m about 3000 scans in at this point on color negatives. I’m using an Epson V800 and scanning using Silverfast Ai Archive. I stanning to HDRi archive at this point. On some days encounter frequent freezes in the middle of batch scanning. It’s unclear if this is an Epson issue or Silverfast. It requires me to exit Silverfast, shut down the scanner, and restart everything. Hope you and your staff are safe. I'm not sure the plastic on the film holder is useful as it requires close attention to remove the dust. Overall I like the product so far but wish the freezes would not occur. I also plan to buy a second film holder.

I have just finished scanning 2000 slides, some dating back 80 years. This scanner did a great job in record time.

Not many options today for a scanner that will do slides, 35mm and 6x6 film and pictures. Fortunately this scanner will do all of that. The pluses - it will deliver great results, especially with slides. The Epson Scan software is easy to use (I was scanning in 15-minutes after it was up and running) To be fair, I did have to download the latest version updates, but once that was done everything connected and worked as planned. And the results a beautiful. The minuses - the dust removal settings struggle a bit and if you set them to "high" the occasionally odd things will happen (I had a few pupils register as dust so it tried to "correct" that, as well as an entire row of port holes on a ship all got masked and "fixed". Honestly the best thing to do with dust is to clean the slides before then get scanned as best you can. Another thing is the optional Silverfast software - the learning curve was much steeper than the Epson Scan and considering the results I was getting I just gave up on it for now. So bottom line, very happy with the way it works and the images are fantastic. BTW, I ended up choosing the V800 over the V850, but if you are going to do a ton of work then having the extra slide and film holders will help make the process more efficient - because scanning takes a while at high settings and it helps to be be able to clean and load the next holder while waiting. I can't speak to the image quality of the 850, but I find it hard to imagine it could be that much better.

I bought this scanner because I wanted a high quality scanner to archive a few thousand family photos. It does exactly what I need it to do and is easy to use.

I have had my V800 photo scanner for about 3 weeks. Set up was easy, but the user manual is sorely deficient. I have had to call customer service several times to get answers to questions. It’s hard to find the help number, but it is worth the effort as the customer service reps are both very helpful and very knowledgeable. The quality of the scan and ease of use are great. I am still trying to determine what size file I prefer for archiving, which is a personal choice. As well as which source I prefer, actual photos or the color negatives.

I own MANY slides and negatives that for DECADES I have struggled to scan. Starting at the dawn of computer photo imagery, I bought HP's 4c, then 4p, then photosmart. Those scanners survived and out performed all of the off the shelf usb scanners that followed for years, but I never was able to get the really good scans I was chasing. Finally, this Epson Perfection V800 has the settings that make home slide and negative scanning just barely affordable. The height adjusting holder trays allow a fine focus of the negative that wasn't there before, the dual lenses make it possible to have both transparency and flatbed scans. And the IR Dust removal is nothing short of magical. I'm using this with the SilverFast 8 software, and FINALLY scanning is manageable without hours of tweaking. I recommend the Nick Carver videos for further information.

My Epson V800 is about five years old and one of the best purchases I've ever made. Worth every penny. In my photo restoration business, I work with 4"x5" vintage negatives. Newer photo scanners accommodate film strips, but not larger negatives, so when my old scanner died, I was in a panic. Then I found the Epson V800, and I was in business again. Epson makes the only large-negative scanner. I confess, I don't use film holders; I put my photos and negatives right on the glass (carefully!). The V800 software is fine for everyday stuff, but I do my corrections with Photoshop. For professionals, I recommend this as the only way to go. The results are the best, never disappointing. My customers rave about the "new" prints they get after I've scanned their old, faded negatives and photos. I LOVE my V800 and recommend it to professionals, enthusiasts, and amateurs.

I purchased this to replace my Epson 4870 scanner, as I have negatives and transparencies in a variety of formats up through 4x5. At first I thought the anti-Newton supports in the negative holders were terrific, but after the purchase I discovered that they are plastic rather than glass. This make keeping them clean and dust free, and static-free, next to impossible. The SilverFast software is a great addition to EpsonScan for me, although it does take some care to become efficient when scanning multiple images.

The best scanner you can buy for the money. This is my second - the first one lasted 7 years until it was knocked off the desk. Fatal damage to optics & flatbed.

Sadly, after going to the expense of buying this, I discover that its software is not compatible with my Mac Catalina system. So, I had to purchase a third-party (more complicated ) software Silverfast, which was recommended by the manufacturer.

I recently obtained a job which required scanning several thousand 4x5 B&W negatives, a few color. The holders are excellent, but I've been just laying on the scanner using "area". Some negs are curled, but the lenses correct. I'm able to scan 4 at a time. PLUS...I can use levels in each individual selection. Saves me a lot of time. The only criticism I have is that the connection is USB2. Using a USB3 cable would transfer to computer much faster. I highly recommend the V800 to anyone serious about scanning.

I'm giving this scanner four stars because the quality of my black and white scans is pretty good. It's straightforward and easy to use. The one thing I don't like are the film trays. For one thing I wish it came with two trays for medium format 6 x 6 so I could have one tray ready to go while the first tray was in the scanner. I can't even find another Epson tray for purchase online. Secondly the trays and the ANR glass (plastic) seems to attract a lot of dust and I have to constantly make sure they're clean each and every time I put them into the scanner. Overall the quality of the images coming out of the scanner is very good and I'm happy with that. It was easy to set up and the Epson Scan software so far has presented no problems.

Bought this solely for slides/negatives. I have an Epson GT-15000 for everything else. I don't use Silverfast; always gone via Epson Scan Professional Mode and used Photoshop for whatever's needed. One anomaly is cleaning the glass plate, which results in streaks during the preview mode and only in black and white. I'd have to shut off and wait a few hours to get it back to normal. Very strange

My Apple system keeps telling me that the Epson software driver is out of date, needs an update. I just went to the Epson website and downloaded the latest driver/utilities for my Epson V800 Photo scanner but it appears that update still does not meet the Apple requirements. Unfortunate!

I purchased this to scan vintage black and white negatives; film and glass. The negatives are of every size. The scanner produces scans of exceptionally high quality. It has taken me a little bit of time to learn it's quirks - but that may be more a reflection of user than device. In any event, I am quite pleased and very glad that I purchased the Epson 800.

Bigger than expected but does a nice job of scanning hardcopy, film, photos. Interface is different from previous Epson Scanners so takes a little bit of getting used to.

After reading numerous reviews about different scanners for digitizing glass negatives, this unit was highly recommended. I have used other scanners in the past but this unit is by far the best. Working on a new book and this scanner is perfect for my needs. Scans are quick, easy and perfect!!!

Best bang for your buck at this level
By DAN B.
I've owned the last 3 version of this Epson Scanner and this has to be the best so far. The new LED technology is the very best, shorter start up time and shorter scan times. I use for primarily 4x5 negatives and 120 negatives. I scan very little 35mm, it is of no interest for me.Restoring old negatives at it's best.
Great for Scanning 35mm Slides
By Mark F.
I bought this to scan my old 35mm slides. It exceeded my expectations. I was able to capture the color and resolution of the originals and now have them preserved digitally.

The V800 features a dual lens system that automatically selects the optimal lens, with up to 4800dpi optical resolution for reflective photo scanning and 6400dpi when scanning using film holders.
Scan from any source
Scan 35mm strips and slides as well as medium format and 4x5 inch large format film in sharp focus thanks to the improved film holders with their adjustable height control and rigid design. The V800 also supports non-standard film formats up to 8x10 inch when placed directly on the scanner glass.
Cleans-up images
