This refurbished product seems to look and perform identically to the new product. The scanner looks as-new, it has worked without any problem, and the results are excellent. The only difference I can see from a brand-new scanner is in the packaging: the scanner comes in a “refurbished product” box and the negative holders are packaged in an ordinary ziplock bag. At this price point, this seems like a great deal.

Very good, accurate scans. The Epson Scan software on professional mode is awesome, letting you specify everything how you want. It would be good if the edge of the scanning bed was exactly lined up with the edge of where it scans to but nothing else to note.

The scanner arrived safely and was easy to learn how to use. The newest version of the Epson software seems to scan at a higher quality than the included SilverFast SE 8 software, but I may use SilverFast SE 8 for certain touch ups for damaged family photos. The scanning cover and glass had a few small scratches, but that is to be somewhat expected with a refurbished scanner. Brand new film holders, cables/wires, and manuals were included. Overall, I am happy because I was able to get the scanner for $

We use this scanner for our business (a pro lab) when customers provide prints, negatives or transparencies to print and do not have a digital file yet. Resolution is wonderful to print from - just remember that the smaller the image, the more area you should scan around it to have the scanner provide the highest quality scan.

The V800 scanner is far superior to the 4870 I replaced it with.I have used to scan my 4x5 transparencies that I originally shot for the covers of Newsweek, Fortune and Discover magazines back in the late 70s early 90sIn my NYC photo studio. The easy to use software had me up and running in less then 15 minutes and the quality of the scan was equal to or greater then any of the out source services I have in Roanoke, VAEd Gallucci Photographer www.edgallucciphotography.com

I'm using the V800 to scan 40 years of 35mm, 120, and 4x5 film. It is very close to the quality of a dedicated 35mm scanner. It also scans the medium format and 4x5 film the other scanners can't touch. The V800 certainly isn't for everyone, and I didn't want to spend this much on a scanner, but I am glad that I did.

I needed to replace my old Epson scanner recently (nothing wrong with it, just needed higher resolution) and I bought the Epson V800. I hadn't expected such great results, especially on 35mm slides, but I've decided that I probably don't even need my other dedicated slide scanner any more. This machine is a real technical achievement. Not only is the hardware superb, but the included Silverfast software is brilliant. There is indeed a learning curve, but its comprehensive capabilities make it well worth it.

Worth every penny. I have a great number of negatives in every format from 110 through 5x7 and this scanner handles it all with grace. I'm ridiculously happy. The bundled software is good, not great. Better than most. Some of the interface design is a little wonky, but I was able to figure it out pretty quickly. If you need to scan anything besides 35mm, this (or the 850) is the scanner you want.

Need to work with the software. But this is a fine device and if you understand this devices capabilities you can make it dance.

I have thousands of scans to do on mostly 35 mm slides, and so far this has been very useful. I opted for the 800 over the 850 because of research where people reported negative comments about the main difference- the software. I also saved by getting a factory refurbished model and so far have not been disappointed on either count.

This scanner is great. I have experience using this type of scanner so the learning curve was short, but I don't think it would be difficult even for a beginner. only con would be the medium format film holder only holds one strip of film 2-4 frames depending on film format. Comes with silverfast 8 but I prefer the Epson scan, just seems easier to use.
