Questions & Answers

meir t : Do the sections on this monopod (cobra strike 2) twist when you pan? Just so you understand my question I bought the fotopro ispeedy and if you pan the wrong way then you loosen the 4 sections that you opened and in a second the monopod collapses.

amazing though no mention of possible adjustment in description

this try-pod is amazing for handheld work i would like to point out though that many video reviews show the operator smoothly extending and detracting it is going to require adjustment of a screw to satisfy preference for how smooth is comfortable or slides down to easy.

Super unit!

Super design and so easy to adjust the height. The base is well constructed and will probably last a lifetime.

Buy the Cobra 2 Strike you will love it!

Excellent material quality and workmanship. Have been out shooting with the Cobra 2 Strike. It just worked. No fuss no thinking about how to use the monopod just focus on the task of photography. I am 5'10" in height and with a DSLR mounted and the monopod extended fully the view finder was at eye level. I recommend this product to all in the market for a monopod.

Pretty Good With A Little Tweaking

So I'll be honest, I'm just diving into monopod life. I've been a shoulder rig kind of guy with no gimbal, no hand holding, etc. all while shooting weddings. I ran into a fellow videographer at a rehearsal dinner I was running sound for and he SWORE by monopod life so I bought one just like his. The Manfrotto MVMXPRO500US. Haven't even had the chance to use it at a wedding. Then I saw an ad on Facebook for the Cobra Strike 2. After doing a little digging, I figured I had to have this monopod too because the base alone could act as a stand for my new gimbal (nebula 4200). After receiving the Strike 2, I immediately noticed some design shortcomings when compared to the Manfrotto XPRO500. Honestly, if iFootage could redesign the base, this thing would absolutely spank the Manfrotto with ease of use, super quick setup, flexibility, and sheer price! But there's two things iFootage needs to fix: 1. I will NEVER need to use the two other stops on the three feet...why would I ever want to make the monopod more unstable? I will always use them in their widest spread which will certainly slow me down when setting up on the fly to catch the bride throwing the bouquet. Let's face it, sometimes brides decide to do things without telling anyone and when you're paid to capture every moment, that often times means you're running to setup a shot at a reception while you were in the middle of capturing something else. I honestly can't think of any reason why ANYONE would really need the other two stops on the fold down feet. Suppose you have a ($) 5D Mark IV on top and you accidentally put one of the legs at a different angle without realizing it. Now your expensive camera is coming tumbling down the MOMENT you let go of your monopod. 2. Along the same lines, when using the ball head at the base, suppose you want to quickly straighten it up and leave your camera standing straight up...but only it's not perfectly vertical even though it looks like it is. That same 5D Mark IV is coming crashing down the moment you let go thinking your investment is safe. The Manfrotto has a collar that slides down (when you're not using the ball portion of the base) so that it forces the monopod to be perfectly perpendicular with the ground. Very nice feature that would help me sleep easier at night. A few other points to make. 1. It's a bit tough to expand the Strike 2 with any sort of weight connected at the top. If you have a lightweight DSLR or lightweight head attached, the downward pressure makes it harder to expand the monopod. 2. When you have a fluid head on the top, there's a little play in the body so when you're doing a pan, make sure you start a little before where you want to cut to in the final video because you'll definitely see a spot where it abruptly stops then starts panning with the motion of the fluid head. 3. By the time you add a Komodo K5 to the top of the monopod, you're now spending just as much as you would for the Manfrotto. As a package deal (Strike 2 and Komodo) it should give you a pretty good discount combined because then they won't be able to keep the Strike 2's on the shelves. 4. I'd also like to be able to purchase more of the quick release plates to attach to a few other devices and if iFootage fixes the issues with the base, I'd like to be able to purchase the base by itself so I don't have to buy a whole new monopod... Overall, I'm still happy with my purchase and think this is a solid first attempt at a monopod with a twist (pun intended).
