Plastic fantastic. Its a featherweight, its tiny could fit a shirt pocket, the plastic lens mount glides onto the camera body and securely clicks into place, its super wide, focuses close, its sharp and contrasty. If this is a trend count me in! So its a great value for its price. If your camera goes to sleep it retracts, thats an annoyance but I can live with it. Put it on my new to me XM1. They were sold with the 16-50. The 15-45 is smaller and weighs less. I think it looks better on the small viewfinderless XM1. Deciding between these two bargain lens would be a personal choice. The 15-45 is a power zoom, while the 16- 50 is manual. Each have a plastic mount and body. The 15-45 is sharper at 15 and the 16-50 is sharper at 46-50 LoL, they are both sharp enough for my needs.

I got this in advance of a trip where I needed to fit my x-h1 and lens into a pretty small bag. It was nearly perfect in that regard. It’s about the size of tha 18mm f2 when retracted. It’s very compact and lightweight. It’s sharp enough wide open at all focal lengths for my purposes. The 15mm wide end is wide enough that I could leave my 14mm f2.8 at home. There are a few flies in the ointment, however... The lens doesn’t remember the focal length last used, so on powering up it always settles back to 15mm. When reviewing images on the camera lcd the lens must retract first, which delays the process and feels awkward. Then when you’re ready to shoot again you have to wait for the lens to turn on and it goes to 15mm. The power zoom isn’t as awkward as I thought it would be, and it’s easy to dial in a precise focal length for precise framing. If only the lens/body would remember that focal length and return to it after viewing images or a power on/off cycle.

This is my first impression of the Fujifilm XC 15–45mm OIS PZ lens. I hope to post an update after I have had more experience with it. That said, this is my first XC series lens. I have six other Fuji X Series lenses, all from the XF series. The XF lenses are Fuji's "pro" lenses. As such, they have a lot of metal and glass. The XC lenses tend to be Fuji's "consumer" lenses and use various approaches to keep the cost low. This land has in fact, been introduced as a kit lens for the new Fujifilm X-A5 camera. But of course is available separately for those of us who already have X body cameras. This is the lens that I have been waiting for ever since I bought into the X body camera system. The ex parte lenses available from Fuji to this point, have been fairly large and fairly heavy. I have been hoping that Fuji would come out with a small, light weight, moderate zoom. This lens feels that Bill quite well. The lens itself, when collapsed, is roughly the same size as the XF 18mm F2 R. When you power up your camera the lens expand, approximately, and additional inch. And, remains this length while the camera is in use. It retracts when the camera is turned off. The power zoom feature will work on any X mount camera in the Fugees line. Resume is operated by a zoom ring on the lens barrel. Twist the ring to the right and the lens zooms telephoto. Twist the ring to the left and it zooms wide-angle. The lens also has OIS image stabilization. There is no control to turn OIS on or off, so I assume it is always on. I don't know that for fact because I'm not very diligent about reading documentation. The lens barrel including the lens mount, is made of plastic. This is not necessarily a bad thing. It makes it lands that is very lightweight. When I held this lens in my hand for the first time, I could not believe how light weight it was. It barely felt like it was there. Most of the XF lenses come with front and rear lens caps, a soft lens bag, and most include the appropriate lens shade. As this is my first XC lens, I do not know what is the norm for XC series lenses. This lens came with front and rear lens caps only. The front Is the newer Fuji style that I prefer over the older style. However, the rear lens cap, was not a bayonet, but a white plastic push-on cap. This rear lens cap is the only thing that I am disappointed with. I will be ordering a standard bayonet style cap the next time I put in an order for camera stuff. Overall I really like this lens. It is exactly what I was hoping Fuji would eventually produce: a small lightweight zoom of moderate range to help frame my photos without having to walk around a lot. I hope to add or revise this review when I have had a chance to evaluate the image quality.
