Review Summary

While this isn't a perfect lens, it may be a perfect travel lens in a multi-lens rig. It's small, light, has great IQ. While not technically a macro, it does macro more than satisfactory and can be used as a portrait or even a street lens. And it has good reach. True, its auto-focus could be better, but when weighed against its size and versatility, its a minor problem. Perhaps not the lens to use doing one thing all day every day, but a great lens for a traveller doing a lot of different types of photography, especially when its size makes traveling easier.

This lens is small and lightweight. And it can take beautiful macro shots. I love this lens.

Pros: Lightweight. My main reason to choose this over 80mm macro. Good contrast. Build quality. Can double as portrait lens (but don't expect too much) Cons: Slow to focus. The focal length though enough, sometimes I wish was bit more long. No IS. Bit difficult in low light, handheld. Conclusion: For a beginner in macro like me, this is a best lens to start. It's relatively cheap (bought during Fuji summer sale) and gives good results. If I get hooked with macro further, then I may be I will look for a lens with IS and longer focal length.

I owned this lens before purchasing it again. I traded my original copy to finance the Fuji XF 90mm f/2. I also own the Fuji XF 80mm macro. I had figured that seeing as I had the 80 I had no need for the 60. I was wrong. The 60mm Fuji macro weighs 215 grams (7.58 oz). The 80mm weighs 750 grams (26.4 oz). The 60mm is 2.5 inches long. The 80mm is twice as long at 5.12 inches. The 60mm is slow to focus and hunts in low light. The images are excellent. True, I can't get as close with the 60mm compared to the 80mm. But the 60mm will fit in a 5L bag attached to an X-H1 or X-T3 anfd I still have room for two smaller primes. The 80mm in the same bag must be unattached in order to carry one additional prime. Both of these are great. I find myself carrying the 60 more often because of the size and weight benefits. As one blogger sort of put it, "it's great optics that are trapped in a lens barrel with older slower focusing technology". It lends itself to slower more contemplative image taking and rewards your patience with stellar images. It's back in my lens collection for good.

I have read many negative comments about slow autofocus and compared to more modern lenses this is true. Another comment is that the lens is not really 1:1 macro - also true. However, the lens is a great combination lens for those that cannot buy dedicated portrait (e.g. 56 mm f/1.2) and macro lens. Very sharp edge to edge and works well as portrait lens as well as close focusing lens! Recommended!

As others have stated, this is slow, sometimes Painfully Slow to focus. Also susceptible to Hunting - and Not Finding focus - at other times. So it can be frustrating, for sure. Not sure the optical quality and macro functions are worth the trouble. Probably better off with a good 50mm, which are faster.Write your review here. It must be at least 10 characters long. I use this lens more for portraiture than macro. The build quality is fantastic, even the lens hood is metal. The magnification isn't the greatest but quite adequate. Manual focus is slow, but I would prefer this for macro work. The aperture ring it actually labeled and the detents are tight. There were older reviews complaining of focus speed. Make sure and update the firmware and this is fixed.

I wanted to use this in a similar fashion that i use my Tamron 90mm macro with my Nikon d90 slr. I love doing field nature photgraphy with my macro- flowers, spiders, insects, etc- and this lens is very difficult to use. The slightest movement by the photographer or the subject and the sense starts the autofocus process- all the way through the entire focal rang- until it locks on again. Then with a mother beat of a heart or the slightest breeze on a flower and the agonizingly slow focusing process starts again. To say this lens is slow to autofocus is true- it is glacially slow; but the constant in and back out refocusing is what makes the lens useless for handheld nature photography out in the field. i'l have to stick with my Tamron 90mm or my Sigma 150mm macros. With the x-E2 I find that the 55-200 lens actually turns out better macro in actual field use. It is frustrating to use for candid portrait work at events for the same reason.

I use this lens for both close up images and macro shots. It is very light weight, easy to use, a little slow on focusing, but great on IQ.

very well built and possibly sharper than the xtrans sensor.

For the current price, this is a good lens. It's well made and does the job for most of my close up work, although not technically a Marco lens, I believe. I am using it on my X-Pro1 for outside situations. Mostly still work, so I can't attest to its performance picking up a focus on a moving target, etc.

With the lens and my Fuji-X camera both updated with the latest firmware, the lens focuses much faster and more accurately for me. It is not the fastest focusing lens in the X line up but it now works just fine for my uses. The bokeh is nice and pleasing to the eye. While focusing the lens makes a little more noise than some of the other X lenses but it is not obnoxiously loud. Some of my high-end Nikon lenses make more noise. The macro is decent. Sharp lens. Small and light. I can carry it in my coat pocket and not know it is there. Before the firmware update I was looking for another solution for a portrait lens. So I am no longer tempted to buy the 56mm 1.2 right now for portraits. Maybe next year! ;)

I would really love to do more macro photography with my Fuji XE2 camera; unfortunately, this may not be the lens for it. It hunts quite a bit in even moderately low light; better for manual focussing. Image quality is very good, though magnification for macro is only 0.5. Bokeh is excellent, images are sharp to edges, and color is bright. A lovely portrait lens, just not quite the horsepower I was looking for as a macro lens. I would love a longer focal length, faster lens with 1:1 macro ability. Build quality is excellent, and manual focus is very nice to use - grip is wide and ridged for slow, precise turning.

Portraits excellent with beautiful Bokeh. Pictures are tack-sharp, even at 1200 ISO ! I have the 14 mm, and the 55-200 zoom. This is now the lens I use the most. The Macro setting at 90 mm allows you to do close-ups without your own shadow covering the shot. I love it !

Great pictures, bokeh, and build quality. Feels very solid. Others have complained about its slow focus speed, but I haven't really noticed unless the lighting is pretty low (like iso 3200 low)

Because of its innovative design and superior performance, the Fujifilm XF 60mm f/2.4 R Macro Lens is a professional-grade lens that's perfect for both macro and standard photography. Specifically engineered for Fujifilm X-Series cameras, this lens offers a 90mm equivalent in 35mm format, making it a versatile addition to any photographer's toolkit.
With its wide f/2.4 aperture, this high-quality lens excels in low-light conditions, while also providing a pleasing bokeh effect with its 9-blade aperture design. This feature is ideal for creating dramatic portraits with beautifully blurred backgrounds.
Taking full advantage of the mirrorless design of the X-Pro1 and other X-Series cameras, the rear element of the lens is positioned as close as possible to the sensor. This innovative design significantly minimizes the back focus distance, resulting in sharper, more vibrant images.
Constructed with a durable metal barrel, this reliable lens is built to withstand the rigors of professional use. It also features Fujifilm's Super EBC coating, which enhances optical performance by reducing flare and ghosting. This results in improved center-to-edge resolution and brightness, free from chromatic aberration.
The XF 60mm f/2.4 R Macro Lens also boasts a maximum magnification of 0.5x, allowing you to capture stunning close-up shots with ease. The aperture ring features 1/3-stop click stops, offering more precise control over exposures.
