One of Fujifilm's best

What a beautiful lens. A pleasure to own just to enjoy the craftsmanship let alone the crispness and clarity in every situation. It is an expensive (for me) lens, but as the adage says, "the quality remains long after the price is forgotten."

I love this lens...

So sharp. I use it for food, portraits, and macro. OIS makes it usable handheld. This is one of my absolute favorite prime lenses. Way more versatile than you would expect.

Fujifilm 80mm Macro lens

Love this 80mm Macro Fujifilm lens. Manual focus takes a minute to get the subject in focus. Once the subject is in focus it?s sharp as a tack.

good not great

sharp but slow, and makes clunky noises until you lock it in on focus. the 60mm is slower but much smaller and quieter… it definitely fits a niche but I hoped for more

Fuji 80mm f/2.8 macro lens

This is my first macro lens and I am quite impressed with the images. Very sharp lens with many uses beyond macro work. Works very well on my Fuji X-H1 camera. May be larger than some are used to, but it does not seem massive to me. Highly recommend.

Killed my previous macro lens.

I am coming from an a7iii and Sony G 90mm Macro. I was skeptical at first and while that was indeed a super sharp lens, this Fuji 80mm blow it out of the water. Not to mention the AF is quick. Faster than the 18-55 kit lens (that is all I have to compare it to for Fuji lenses).

Fantastic Lens

Fantastic lens. Extremely sharp and focuses quickly. It's a little off putting to hear the lens rattle, but it works perfectly.

Awesomely sharp lens with very effective OIS

Although the XF 80mm Macro is my macro lens, I have always wanted one ever since I first got into photography many years ago. This lens is more expensive, heavier, and larger than most other competing macro lenses in similar focal lengths designed for larger sensor format. Even with these downsides, I feel the XF 80mm Macro is worth it. The lens is very sharp even wide open at f/2.8. I always try to shoot macros with a tripod but in those instances when I can't use a tripod, the OIS is very effective. In non macro shots, with the OIS, I can handhold and be completely sharp all the way down to 1/8 sec. shutter speed. With closeups that are less than 1x magnification, such as the flower photos I have attached, I find that I need at least 1/80 to 1/125 sec. shutter speed to be completely sharp. For anything at 1x magnification, I prefer to use a tripod because at those high magnifications, it is almost impossible to keep a certain part of the subject in focus without unintentionally moving the camera and lens backwards and forwards. When I first saw photos of this lens online, I thought that the extra large focus ring was a bit ridiculous and overkill. I initially only ever planned on using the auto-focus (remember that this is my first experience with a macro lens), but once I actually had a chance to use the lens with a tripod, I quickly began to appreciate the large and smooth focus ring. With the X-T2's focus peaking, I am able to precisely place the focus exactly where I want it even on those 1x magnification photos. The large focus ring really does help with precision focusing because it allows the use of more fingers to adjust focus. I really do not mind how the focus-by-wire behaves but I wish there was an easy way to quickly bring the lens to its minimum focus distance. Without stops on the focus ring, it is very inconvenient to quickly bring the lens to minimum focus because I am never sure when the lens has actually reached minimum focus. This is really only an issue when I'm photographing a subject so small that it doesn't fill the APS-C frame at 1:1 magnification. In situations like that, I want to be able to quickly bring the lens to minimum focus distance and move the camera backwards and forwards to achieve focus. This maximizes the size of the subject on to the APS-C sensor. I wish Fujifilm will provide a firmware update that would allow a custom button that brings the lens to minimum focus when pressed. There are also many comments regarding the bokeh (background blur) of this lens when used for portraiture. From my experiences using this lens, I think many people's complaints regarding bokeh with portraits on this lens applies to a specific shooting condition; that is, a high contrast background with a lot of small highlights. Yes, the highlight bokeh are not perfect circles, especially closer to the edges, but I think more importantly, it's because given the lens' focal length and the typical distances from which half body portraits are shot, the f/2.8 aperture is just not wide enough to throw out such distracting backgrounds. When used as a macro lens, where throwing out the background is not an issue, the bokeh is silky smooth. It is obvious that Fujifilm designed this lens first and foremost as a macro lens. If all I did were portraits, the XF 80mm Macro won't be my first choice. But for a macro lens, it's quite decent at portraits. You just have to mind your backgrounds. Even with its high price, heavy weight, and large size, I feel this lens is totally worth it. It is very sharp even wide open and the OIS, combined with the X-T2 and other X-mount Fujifilm cameras' very good high ISO performances, it is easy to get high quality photos even handheld.

The must have lens for macro in a FujiFilm setup

This lens is built well and works great with the Fuji ecosystem. The macro abilities are spot on and even using this as a portrait lens leaves one with nice images.

Outstanding lens

I use this lens primarily for portrait work. If you had perfect lighting conditions, you'd probably go with the 90mm f/2, but its lack of image stabilization kills you when lighting isn't so good. Enter the 80mm with its OIS. Is the bokeh as perfect as the 90mm f/2? No. But it has its own character and I think it works very well. It won't obliterate the background like the 56mm f/1.2 will do, but I think it actually works well to give a little more context to the photo. Others have asked if the lens is too sharp for portrait work? My answer is no. It is very sharp. If you want to tone it down a bit for portrait work, that's quick and easy in post. I'd rather have the flexibility of supreme sharpness when I want it... and the ability to soften things a bit when I prefer. Overall - an excellent lens. There is a bit of onion ring effect in the bokeh, but that tends to be something we photographers will quibble about and real people in the real world will not notice or care about. Just my 2 cents.

Incredibly sharp

Incredibly sharp. focuses extremely close. Despite being somewhat large, works well on my X-T2 with battery grip. Only con is that it seems to focus somewhat slowly, especially when shooting in macro mode. Much faster on ordinary subjects.

An Optical Marvel (with a drawback or two)

This lens absolutely delivers excellent image quality, great focusing abilities and the OIS works like a dream. The drawbacks: -It is not a surprise if you read the specs, but this is a bulky, long and heavy lens. If you are comfortable using the 16-55 f2.8 or the 50-140 f2.8 lenses then this lens will be fine for you. -This lens is noisy! The floating element "clunk" that other Fuji lenses are known for, is present in this optic, but louder (much louder that my 50-140 and you can feel a slight jolt in your hand when turning the camera on or off). The whirring and muted electronic beeping of the internal focus and stabilization system is VERY noticeable, especially in a quiet environment. A note for those considering the Zeiss 50mm f2.8 Touit 1:1 macro as an alternative. I did a fairly scientific comparison between the two lenses at close and medium distances and the Zeiss is noticeably sharper than the Fuji at f2.8 and f4 while at f5.6 they are virtually identical and by f8 the Fuji wins the sharpness prize. With its compact size, weight, decent focusing ability, versatility and just the way it rests in your hand, the Zeiss lens is a total pleasure to use.
