Versatile all-around camera

This camera was purchased as a backup for my SLR and as a travel camera. It is lightweight and has several desirable features. The features that convinced me that this would be an ideal travel camera are: 1. Manual zoom with a 30:1 range, 2. It is 3/4 the size of an SLR and half the weight, 3. It is powered by AA batteries which are available anywhere in the world. I have been very satisfied with the HS10 as a backup to my Pentax K-5 and as a travel camera.

Great Entry Level Camera

Great overall camera with a few flaws that i have to address from slow RAW processing, External Flash is to harsh IMO. THose are some of my personal con list. It is a great little camera for the Novice to the Professional once you accept its primary useage. This was my first Bridge camera

GREAT TRAVEL CAMERA

The HS10 is a great travel camera. When I travel, especially overseas, I take it in addition to my SLR and several of its lenses. There are numerous times that I don't want to carry the heavier SLR and the HS10 makes a perfect backup. It's slightly smaller than an entry level SLR, but only about half the weight. The built-in 30:1 zoom lens is fantastic, particularly for wildlife. Another great travel feature: It uses four AA batteries. I can go into a drugstore in any city in the world and buy AA batteries and don't have to worry about a voltage converter to charge rechargeable batteries. Highly recommended!

Great vacation camera with limits

this camera has a great zoom range, no doubt, but the zooming is jerky at the high end. Called Fuji for an adjustment and they admitted it's not smooth. There are too many features! is this possible?, in my opinion yes! I'm a still photographer not a movie shooter. Eliminating a second type of shooting would simplify the manual for faster reading / understanding. Why does one devise need to do everything? Same problem with cell phones!

Lots of whistles and bells

Fuji has a very easy to reach live help line who are very helpful and easy to understand. I had a photo problem and they had me email it to them and they analyzed it and sent back a fix within a day.

Going for the Long View

I take mostly scenic and wildlife shots. I always wanted a long lens but the cost of good lenses is higher than I want to go. While this camera is not inexpensive (by my standards) it does provide a very good lens coupled permanently to a very good body. Operation is fairly simple especially if this isn't your first digital camera; I haven't really needed an instruction book yet though I've only been out a few times. Image stabilization is good though I prefer using a tripod since I doubt this thing can't help but blurring extended all the way out. The manual zoom is smooth and that allows exact framing which is a plus. I find the controls conveniently placed and the hand grip very good. The setup is fast, the choices for ISO, etc. are easy to find and use. When off, the camera fits into a nice small bag I bought as a kit from Adorama and that's convenient. I have not fully checked battery life so I can't speak accurately to that nor have I done any action shots or sports as yet but I feel confident the camera could handle them. The camera has good balance and weight for "grab" shots.

Great Camera

I have owned 4 superzoom cameras before this one and have taken close to 100 pictures with it. The camera has a sensor the size of one from a DSLR, great zoom range and sharpness at 720 mm, and zoom and MF focusing rings that are excellent. The camera takes standard filters, and the barrel doesn't rotate. There is little color bleed between buildings or rocks and the sky. The camera does not eat up batteries. Barreling distortion is considerable at 24 mm, and the controls could be more intuitive. This camera is a good substitute for a heavier DSLR for hikes.
