Questions & Answers

Shopper : How do I fire the flash?RUO X : Turn on the flash and open it.
Shopper : how do I fire the flash?KARL G : Push the round button on left side of the flash on the housing. It will allow the flash to pop up. Depending on your setting the camera will go off. you can also force the flash if needed.James S : There is a button on the front left of the flash unit, which will pop open the flash head. The flash button on the back of the camera will let you choose whether to let the flash go off automatically when needed, or you may choose to force the flash to go off manually. On an internal menu you can also adjust the flash to fire at preselected EV levels.DONALD K : Interesting question. I haven't tried it so i wouldn't have known it doesn't work. The system sues an "Intelligent Flash" to light dark objects when the flash is activated. It does what it does, apparently. The Flash setting int eh menu is only for a flash mounted on the hot shoe. At least that is what the manual states. After a couple of tests, limited to be sure, i agree with the manual. The flash is just window dressing. Wow!!!ROCKNE H : The right side of the selector button selects flash. Auto flash will only flash when light conditions are such that the camera cannot adjust itself to an aperture and speed that will take a picture. This not always good as sometimes the exposure speed gets too low to overcome camera shake. The button cycles through auto, forced, and something called slow/synchro, something you want to read up on before using. If you absolutely want flash then you need to get into "forced" mode. You have to cycle through the button setting in order to set this. The auto mode causes me some problems so if I feel flash is warranted I cycle to forced mode. Good luckGERRY B : The only way I know of at the present time is when the button on the left side of the flash is pressed then the flash pops up. If the lighting is dark enough it will fire. I have not yet mastered all the features of this excellent camera.JOHN K : I had a problem with completing the answer, as my window disappeared before could finish it. So, in case that one didn't make it, here it is, again. The button to activate the flash is, if you are facing the front of the camera, located on the side just to the right of the name "Fujifilm". It's the only button there and has the flash symbol on it. Press it and the flash will pop up; it is ready to use at that point. To make adjustments, go into the shooting menu and make changes according to what mode you are in. If you want to use an outside flash, like a studio strobe, there is a selection in the menu just under the flash selection to turn it on or off. Turn it on and you can use the camera with other flashes. Good flashing.CAROL V : Looking at the camera from the front.... there is a small black button, just to the right of the word "fujifilm". Press that button and the flash will pop up. It should fire in most modes from there. You can also download the complete manual for this camera from Fuji website.... it will give you all operating instructions.MURRAY R : There is a button that enables the flash to pop up. Once it is up, the camera will automatically fire the flash as required.ROY S : I really do not use the flash, but I have tested it. I believe you have to pop open the flash before it will fire automatically. There is a button on the top left hand side of the camera near the center (opposite side of the shutter) that you push to pop up the flash. Once the flash is popped up, it will fire automatically if needed when the camera is in EXR. There is also a way to ensure that flash will go off regardless. This is explained in the manual. Sorry I couldn't offer more details. Take care.SANDRA F : Press the small black button to the left of the flash pop-up to raise the flash. Then choose a flash mode by pressing the "lightning bolt" arrow to the right of the Menu circle. It changes from Auto to Forced Flash to the next option each time you press that arrow.Peter B : Turn on the camera, Press the open button to the flash on the left side of the see thru viewer (left and below the ID Finepix HS 50), then check the LCD while pressing the right side of the Menu/OK button and select flash program you want (I use forced many times when shooting real estate interiors to brighten up the forground).GORDON L : I'd like to help but I returned the camera shortly after purchase.
MELINDA H : Do you have information on how quickly the camera turns on and is ready? And also how quickly it's ready to take the next photo?Peter B : These all-in-one zoom cameras have compact-ness in their favor but shoot the moment you press the shutter...NO, neither focusing exactly where you want. And switching from auto to manual focus takes time to find the link in the computers memory and guide. Best for 'not in a hurry' photographer .MEALINGS, M : Find it pretty quick to turn on and can take multiple shots quickly. It is quick to focus generally, although not as fast as say you would expect a higher end SLR etc

Super zoom, great menu and fine pics

As a backup, keep-in-the-car camera it is very useable, high quality and friendly piece of camera equipment. With the great some reach I don't need to carry a bag with multiple lenses. Image quality is excellent up to about 600mm then deteriorates to some degree but is still usable.

Amazing deal

This was my first bridge camera and first purchase from Adorama. I am SO impressed! I cannot believe how fast it was delivered. Customer Service was great at answering my questions prior to buying this camera. I will definitely buy from them again. The camera takes amazing pictures and has many, many cool features. I have already taken alot of precious pictures. I highly recommend this camera for anyone looking to buy a new camera.

So far so good

I'm use to my DSLR so this takes a bit of getting use to. I wanted something lighter to take out for birds, ect. My 100-400mm lens is too heavy to handhold. I picked this one because I can manually zoom the camera with the ring and manually focus. It shoots RAW too.

Why I bought the Fujifillm HS50EXR

Out of the box this camera is relatively easy to set up and start shooting. The zoom is soooooo powerful and the resulting far out there shots have unexpected tight, bright detail. Experimented at several greenhouses with macro settings and produced stunning full screen flower shots without being extra careful or even steady. Film simulation filters add vintage fun effects without post processing (wish there were more film types) Family and nature shots of fast moving children and birds yielded many great pics without really trying. Long battery life is as expected using manual zoom. This is the "bridge" camera I have been waiting for, takes great easy pics and doesn't cost a months rent. Great carry everywhere camera, starts fast so you don't miss those "I gotta get this" shots.

Excellent travel camera

This camera is the best travel camera that I have owned. Despite the huge magnification range, images remain sharp over the whole focal length range. Of course, some distortion and softness in the edges are to be expected with this super-zoom. The best features are the manual zoom and hybrid auto-focus. This allows one to turn on the camera, frame, and shoot in less than a second. Color balance is good and not over-saturated as found in other cameras that I have owned. Also, the images are not over-processed, so the individual pixels are not smeared into blobs. Low-light photos are quite good with this larger and new sensor. My only complaint is that the auto-focus is concentrated in the center of the frame, which very often is not where the subject of the image is located. Manual adjustment of the focal point is possible to override this, but it takes a little longer to set up the image frame. Battery life also seems a little weak, but I need to do more extensive tests to see if this is a real problem. A spare battery is recommended for all-day shoots.

Huge improvement of HS30EXR

The biggest change is the overall speed of operation of the camera; it pulls into sharp focus and good exposure very quickly. Secondly, the long zoom at 42:1 produces a sharper image than the 30:1 of the hs30. Thirdly, the swing out screen is a big plus feature. One minus is the EXR setting sometimes gives unpredictable results especially in low light. A second minus, so far, is the movie seems to jump. This may have been caused by using a class 4 memory card. I have replaced the card with a class 10 but have not tried it yet.

Awesome Camera

I was researching this camera for 3 months before you could buy it.... Finally got one & LOVE it. It can do EVERYTHING ! Great features, tons of creative settings, lightweight, easy to handle, incredible lens. It is easy to operate, once you learn where everything is. There is so much you can do, and it takes a while to get familiar with the menus & such. Still experimenting with the settings, but so far it is a dream.

HS50EXR Digital Camera Amazing

Had the Fujifilm FinePix HS35EXR Digital Camera, but was able to return it, when this model came out. Because of the extended zoom, the fully articulated LCD, increased pixels of the LCD, and finally the significantly decreased auto focus time. This camera is a joy.

The best in the HS series to date.

I think Fuji has a winner on its hands. As long as you keep telling yourself that this is not an SLR, it should please the discerning amateur who wants to have a decent camera without having to lug around additional lenses. I've owned both the HS10 and HS20 in the past. This newest iteration is faster, even more versatile, and just about the perfect all-around bridge-type camera - at least in my opinion. It acts like an SLR with that nice manual zoom ring. The new Advanced filters are a welcome addition and are great to have when applied to appropriate shots - and not over-used. I've been practicing with the HS50 EXR for a couple weeks now, and have yet to find any major negatives that would cause me to complain. Your mileage may vary. I give the camera 4.5 stars (couldn't do a half star on the rating selection). The only reason I didn't give it 5 was I don't think one can tell another person any camera is "perfect" - although, I feel it's a perfect addition to my collection of cameras.

HS50EXR Digital Camera Amazing

By STEVEN K.

Had the Fujifilm FinePix HS35EXR Digital Camera, but was able to return it, when this model came out. Because of the extended zoom, the fully articulated LCD, increased pixels of the LCD, and finally the significantly decreased auto focus time. This camera is a joy.

The Fujifilm FinePix HS50EXR Digital Camera (Black) features Fujinon optical 42x manual zoom lens (24 - 1000mm) that effectively combines aspherical lenses, ED lens and integrated lenses to achieve a bright aperture rating of f/2.8 - 5.6 and image stabilization. Super Macro mode allows close-up shooting from as near as 1cm and the manual barrel zoom ensures speedy, intuitive control of the camera.

Controlled by the convenient Function (Fn) button, the Intelligent Digital Zoom offers an astonishing 84x magnification power, the equivalent of a 2000mm focal length. In addition to magnifying the image, the EXR sensor intelligently minimizes noise in flat areas and sharpens and enhances contrast in edge areas and to create natural clarity and crispness even at super-telephoto magnification. Intelligent Digital Zoom also functions in EXR AUTO mode, to guarantee you exceptional shots with minimal effort.

All the lens elements used in the FinePix HS50EXR have been treated with multilayer Super EBC (Electron Beam Coating), the same process used for Fujinon broadcasting video lenses and large-format camera lenses acclaimed by professionals. Reducing ghosting and lens flare, the treatment promises clear image quality.
