Bought this camera fro the grandsons xmas. Had it shipped to me so I could check it out, and do any necessary prepping. I own a couple of Canon DSLRs, and a Nikon so had something to compare the Fuji too. First impression was a bit of puzzlement, because it looks like a DLSR, but is a point and shoot. Which the mind knew already but wasn't ready to accept the fact. Tried out the various controls and quickly was reminded why they have instruction booklets. Fortunately the one that comes with this camera is succinct and well written, Once I got the control features down fairly well I began taking pictures. I was quite surprised at the high quality of the pictures...ESPECIALLY with the exceptionally high magnification of the zoom (30x). The auto-focus is just excellent. In average low light conditions indoors the flash isn't even required, making far better photos with no flash 'burn'. Which is fortunate because the flash is really the least acceptable feature on this camera. The video is only 720p, so don't go out and try to film a feature movie. The video is far below this cameras picture taking ability and quality. This camera is NOT a toy. I would not hesitate to take it out in the field and use it. Even in situations where a point and shoot wouldn't even be an option. This is a brief and certainly not thorough review, but it should serve to convince anyone looking for a better grade of point and shoot, or wanting to try for better quality pictures without breaking the bank, to purchase this camera. ,,,and yes, it will be given at xmas with no reservations.
