Impressions after 3 and 250 frames of testing: Solid build. Easy to learn interface. Lens is amazingly sharp. EVF is bright and responsive. Excellent image stabilization (I've hand held down to 1/10th). But... It does have a small sensor. (I knew this going in) and that does make noise noticeable when you are above ISO 1000 or so. As long as your output is for web, social media, and the occasional 11 x 14, you will not notice and image issues and will love the results. This is the perfect compliment to my DSLR and will be used for family events and travel where hauling out the big Nikon doesn't make sense. Overall an excellent blend of advanced features, form and ease of use!

I had the X10 for years, now I am enjoying the practical improvements of the X30 such as the EVF and the tilt-LCD. I have so many cameras that I have decided to simplify by keeping the X30 ,RX100iii the EM-5 and selling the others in 2016

Beautiful camera, easy directions, but just a little too big for my needs. The zoom and lense change ring are too close together and I keep getting the two confused with each other. I prefer the zoom control on time with the other knobs. Pictures are sharp but I have seen sharper and I prefer a more powerful zoom which is available on cheaper cameras. I've had a similar camera that was smaller with better features and results. Above all it was just too cumbersome for what I needed it for.

From the Manufacturer
The Fujifilm X30 Black Camera is a stylish, premium compact black camera with class-leading functionality, superb design, enhanced battery performance and unrivalled image quality. This large-sensor premium compact has evolved from the best-selling X20 camera. In addition to its high quality 2/3-inch X-Trans CMOS II sensor, the X30 features an impressive real-time viewfinder, EXR Processor II and a new control ring along with extra dials and function buttons for more control. Tilting 3.0-inch 920K-dot LCD monitor, improved battery performance (approx. 470 photos /charge), remote Wi-Fi shooting from your Smartphone and a variety of manual functions make shooting with the X30 a true pleasure.
The fastest, largest and highest resolving electronic viewfinder in its class
Surpassing optical versions, the Fujifilm X30's high-resolution real-time organic EL viewfinder offers an unrivalled view of the world. Clear, vivid and richly detailed thanks to its 2.36 million dot resolution, dedicated lens and adjustable controls, composition is flawless even in sunny conditions. The brightness automatically adjusts to the scene or can be set manually, allowing a range of shots only possible when shooting with a viewfinder. It all adds up to a view that will take purists back to the basic joy of shooting.
Electronic viewfinder with high quality dedicated lens
The Fujifilm X30's 2.36 million dot OLED viewfinder provides such a luxuriously seamless view that you'll fast forget it's not a traditional optical type. Making its wide, clear and bright perspective possible is a special high-precision four-element lens and compared to the Fujifilm X20, with its optical viewfinder, magnification has risen to 0.65x now giving complete, 100% coverage, letting you compose with confidence.
Perfect your color photos with Film Simulation mode
With 80 years of expertise in film development, Fujifilm is passionate about color and the result can be clearly seen in the Fujifilm X30's evolved Film Simulation settings. Allowing you to create brilliant images without the need for lengthy post-production, users can switch between beautiful styles just as easily as choosing a roll of film.
Design
To accommodate its real-time viewfinder, dual control ring and high-capacity battery, the Fujifilm X30 has undergone a radical redesign. The Fujifilm X20 has been updated to a body with a solid, functional beauty. The larger handgrip, which improves handling and helps users compose through the viewfinder, is complemented by a tilt able LCD monitor and an upper control deck with a classic design. The camera's footprint is compact and sturdy thanks to its magnesium body, metal dials and lens barrel.
Dual Ring
Thanks to the new control ring, which automatically determines the most appropriate settings for the chosen shooting mode, functions like aperture, shutter speed and more can be quickly chosen without taking your eye from the viewfinder. This is complemented by the manual zoom ring and physical dials which have become a hallmark of the x series.
Shoot your way with six Function Buttons and the Q Menu
Frequently accessed settings can be reached in an instant, thanks to the six customizable Function buttons on the Fujifilm X30. These are augmented by the Q button which brings up a user-defined menu of further settings to speed up shooting.
Focused on bringing you the ultimate image quality 2/3-inch 12M X-Trans CMOS II Sensor
Featuring Fujifilm's bespoke pixel array, the Fujifilm X30 captures high quality images with its large 2/3-inch X-Trans CMOS II sensor. And you'll be able to enjoy high-speed continuous photography and Full HD movie shooting thanks to the high performance CMOS element of the sensor.
Speed and responsiveness come from the synergy between sensor and processor
The blazing image processing performance of the EXR Processor II not only produces images with increased resolution and higher quality at higher speeds, but also accelerates operational responses. This LSI improvement also speeds up operation, reducing start-up time to only about 0.5 sec.
Bright F2.0-F2.8 FUJINON 4x Manual Optical Zoom Lens
The lens features superb F2.0-2.8 brightness and a 4x optical zoom that promises high-resolution optical performance across the entire range from 28mm wide angle to 112mm telephoto. From the aspheric and ED lenses to high-refractive index lens, every element in the design is made from high-performance optical glass and treated with a multi-layer HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating) for high resistance to ghosting and lens flare.
Interval Timer shooting lets you see the passage of time
Set the starting time, the shooting interval (1 sec. to 24 hr.) and finally the number of frames (1-999) and the Fujifilm X30 does the rest, allowing you to discover the unique world of time-lapse photography.
Share every moment via email and SNS with easy wireless transfer to your Smartphone
For easy wireless transfer of photos to your Smartphone or tablet just download the free dedicated ""Fujifilm Camera Remote"" application to your device. There's no need to enter an ID, password or to change other troublesome settings; with just a touch of a button, you can transfer your high-quality images to your phone or tablet ready to upload to your blog or social networking site.
Automatically transfer and save photos on your PC via Wi-Fi
Just turn on your PC and select PC AutoSave from the camera's menu for effortless wireless transfer and saving of your photos and movies to your home PC. Wi-Fi CERTIFIED logo is a certification mark of the Wi-Fi Alliance.
The exceptional definition of Full HD 60fps Movie Shooting
With a headline 1920x1080, 60fps Full HD video mode, the Fujifilm X30 can also shoot movies using Film Simulation modes. Users can also choose one of the 5 frame rates. Manual exposure can also be set during movie shooting. Aperture, shutter speed4 and ISO sensitivity can be set and movies can be shot at an exposure of the user's preference.
Advanced Filters. Artistic photography made fun and simple
"Toy Camera" create shaded borders as if you were taking a photo on a toy camera. ""Pop Color"" emphasizes contrast and color saturation. Featuring a choice 8 artistic effects, Advanced Filters make it easy to transform your photo into a work of art. Before you press the shutter, you can preview the effect on the LCD monitor.
Get creative with multiple exposures
Shoot one photo and then seamlessly merge it with another via the Multiple Exposure mode, for an expressive and artistic look. Composing the second frame is easy as it can be shot while displaying the first on screen.
RAW Shooting
The Fujifilm X30's built-in RAW data converter lets you view and edit your results without the need for your PC. The conversion of RAW data not only takes into account exposure compensation, white balance and other in-camera image quality control settings, but also lets the user apply Film Simulation modes in the converter mode.
Focus Mode Selector (AF-S, AF-C and MF)
The focus mode selector lever to the right of the lens lets you instantly switch between AF-S (Single AF), AF-C (Continuous AF) and MF (Manual).
49 Points Selectable AF
Within the 49-point matrix of the auto focus area on the screen, AF accurately and swiftly recognizes the primary subject and brings it into crystal clear focus. It also lets you freely select the position of the AF frame. Using the LCD monitor, you also can change the AF frame size and pinpoint the focusing.
ISO100-12800 Sensitivity setting range
Select from the broad sensitivity range of ISO100-12800 for shooting at a full 12-megapixel resolution. The Fujifilm X30 also lets you set 3 types of the AUTO ISO range (up to ISO 3200) and the shutter speed limit. For quick access to ISO settings, you can assign this function to the Fn or Q Button.
White Balance Setting
In addition to Auto White Balance, the Fujifilm X30 also offers a choice of white balance presets to compensate for the color of different light sources. Users can also set a Custom White Balance using a gray card or other surface, or select the optimum Kelvin value.
Powerful Built-in Auto Bracketing Functions
Empowering you with a choice of 5 different auto bracketing functions (AE, ISO Sensitivity, Dynamic Range Film Simulation and White Balance), the Fujifilm X30 lets you experience the wide world of photographic expression.
White Balance Bracketing
Just fire the shutter once and capture the same scene at your selected white balance setting plus one frame at a warmer and another at a cooler color temperature. White Balance bracketing can be set in +/-1, +/-2 and +/-3 steps.
Dynamic Range Bracketing
Capture 3 exposures of the same scene with high-speed continuous shooting, each at a different dynamic range setting (100%, 200% & 400%).
AE Bracketing
One press of the shutter captures 3 shots of the same scene at different exposures. AE bracketing can be set in 1/3, 2/3 and 1 EV steps.
ISO Sensitivity Bracketing
Based on a single exposure, the scene is automatically reproduced as 3 images, each with a different ISO sensitivity and without changing the shutter speed and aperture, letting you capture the moment with varying degrees of brightness. Setting is possible in 1/3, 2/3 and 1 EV steps.
