The iFi nano LE sounds great! There’s plenty of headroom for you motorheads and virtually no noise or hiss. It plays just about any format you could throw at it and worked without problem with iPhone or iPad, once you add a USB to Lightning adapter. It’s sturdy and comes with bands and silicone pads to go mobile.

Pro's: USB powered with 8 hour battery. RCA cables for using the device when it arrives! It is small but delivers clear, powerful sounds. 32bit/192khz . Comes with bands for taking it on the go. Software was easy to install and was in use, within 2 minutes of opening box!! For $ it delivers at the PC and for the gaming sessions on the go. Tied with a Schiit Magna 2 amp no pops crackles just pure crystal clear sound! Con's: None atm

This box really cleans up audio, especially from a laptop or similar that often has a low hum or worse. It can go full volume on the box and the pc and is dead quiet, just don't start a track when you've to it turned up. It will probably blow out your ears. It is very easy to connect and get working on a pc. The Mac needed a little direction as far as which port to send audio output to, but wasn't a problem. It gives some depth back to mp3s both in the highs and lows. It works with an Android, but may need some light tweaking to make it work if you've got a dated phone like mine, but I think would be fine with the latest phones. There are some free software that may work with it besides the recommended purchased apps. The size of the box is great for taking along, and while some have complained that the volume knob is blocked by the 1/8" plug, and it would be nice to have all the connections coming out of only one end(that's the reason for 4 stars), those reasons are not deal breakers at all. All in all, I'm pleased with the performance so far and am looking forward to playing backing tracks on a big system.

I've been A/B testing these with my Monoprice DAC/Amp combo unit. And terms of sound quality, the iFi Nano iDSD LE outright destroys the Monoprice. The iFi Nano really open up the soundstage and have a fuller and richer sound. There is nothing really wrong with the Monoprice's DAC but they sound hollow in comparison to this little pocket monster. Build quality is absolutely outstanding. I don't understand how they are making much money cramming all these features into such a refined chassis on top of the packaging and accessories. If there was one complaint about this Pokemon (yes, that's what I'm calling it), it would be that the RCA outputs are in the wrong place. I understand that the SPDIF inputs were eating up the space in the back for the non-LE version but it's just a clunky and crammed design in general. Also the headphone plug is only 3.5mm and painfully close to the pot. Hopefully if iFi makes a revision they can correct these design issues. The one concern I had with this combo unit was if it would be able to power the notoriously inefficient Fostex T50RP Mk3s. Well they do... but barely. They'll get JUST to the point where it's almost too loud but I wouldn't want it to really get higher. For quieter songs though, this could be a problem. Thankfully the RCA outputs work flawlessly if you need more power from a standalone amp and can work as a wonderfully high quality standalone pocket DAC. All in all, this is a wonderful and capable portable device that has served me well everywhere I go.

The nano iDSD Light Edition (LE) is the newest entry-level DAC from iFi audio. The iDSD LE has the same DNA as the multi-award winning nano iDSD but without the SPDIF output, digital filter selection and runs on DSD128/PCM384. This 'pocket rocket' comes in at the entry level with a pedigree that offers the same sonic performance as its sibling. Its scares the living daylights out of other entry level DACs and many other more expensive DACs too.
The High-Res Heart
The nano iDSD LE is able to play True Native, meaning there is no conversion; PCM stays PCM and DSD stays DSD. This means no signal loss as it ensures the music file is 'Bit-Perfect.' This is important because it ensures the highest sound quality as there is no loss from file conversion. The nano iDSD LE supports Hi-Resolution formats up to 384kHz and DSD128.
Burr-Brown is best
At iFi, we care little for 'which format is best.' Rather, we are obsessed with replaying each format at their optimum. What does this mean? Selection of the most advanced chipset and exemplary implementation.
The Burr-Brown DAC chip used was developed by BB Japan and BB themselves (as opposed to BB/TI). Though the product introduction was post-merger, this chipset represents Burr-Brown's "swan song" for the best of our converter technology and remains to this day, held in very high-regard.
On-the-go enjoyment of music
The latest advancements in Smart Devices such as iPhone/iPad/Android has transformed them from a mobile phone to a portable, high-end Computer Audio Source. These Smart Devices are able to natively encode and transmit high-res PCM/DSD/DXD audio. As the iDSD LE is able to natively decode the same, this high-end 'Transport+DAC' combination offers astounding sonics yet is all just palm-sized for great tunes on the move as well as at home.
Precise clock for exceptional jitter rejection
Timing is everything and in audio playback, this is so true. The nano iDSD LE has received fastidious attention to the signal path and the clock crystals or 'clocks' beat with Swiss-precision to ensure the utmost in sound quality.
Any products worth its salt should have clock crystals in the digital circuitry. However, there are clock crystals and there are the clock crystals in the iDSD LE.
The 'clocks' used in the iDSD LE which have been supplied by AMR, are military-grade temperature compensated master clock modules which avoid the creation of unwanted beat frequencies. Such crystals reduce overall digital noise and push jitter to the vanishing point. These clocks have been specifically-sourced from the telecommunications industry where standards are far more exacting than those in the industrial sector (which normally supplies to the audio industry).
Just like other products in the range, the iDSD LE benefits from AMR trickle-down technology to lock out jitter, the iDSD LE does not settle for Asynchronous USB transfer alone. To truly cancel jitter, it also employs AMR's Zero Jitter Lite technology from the famous AMR DP-777 which has Asynchronous as the starting, not finishing point.
Battery for on-the-go and sound quality
The nano iDSD LE boasts a Lithium Polymer battery which ensures 8 hours of music enjoyment on-the-go. To connect a Smartphone/Table, just use the requisite Apple: Lightning to USB/Android: On-the-Go cable to extract the digital signal and let the iDSD LE do the rest.
Even at home, to run on battery should ensure a higher sound quality than normal USB power. For the LE, flexibility is just as strong as the sound quality.
Analog volume control for full dynamics
The iDSD LE very visibly features a built-in precision analog volume control which is more than a match for anything found at twice, even thrice its price point. Its smooth action reflects its smooth sound. It sure delivers the sonic goods. This fastidious attention to detail and consideration for the user is standard for iFi.
DirectDrive means output signal remains pure
A key factor behind why the nano iDSD LE sounds so 'true' is DirectDrive which means there are no output coupling capacitors. This 'direct signal' path is without peer and is a mainstay of the iFi DAC range including the iDSD LE. The sonic transparency is there for all to hear and is second-to-none.
