Laptop and HP Support Review I purchased this HP laptop directly from HP, and unfortunately I experienced a serious issue very early on. During the third week of use, the USB port adapter failed, making it impossible for me to properly use the laptop. I contacted HP support and had a very frustrating experience. My call was transferred three times and disconnected twice before I was finally connected with a technician. When I did reach the HP tech, he spent over one hour trying to resolve the problem. Despite his effort, the issue could not be fixed. I was then told that I would need to return the laptop for repair, which is expected to take 8-10 business days. During this time, I will not have access to my laptop and will be unable to complete my online school training, which is a serious inconvenience. While the technician was professional, the overall experience has been disappointing-especially considering how new the laptop is and how long the support process took without a resolution. I expected better product reliability and a smoother support experience from HP.

The Realtek 8852BE-VT wireless Lan wifi card has very large latency issues which makes gaming impossible.

I customized this 17-inch HP Omen to ensure I got the hardware and performance I wanted, and it was delivered ahead of schedule. My laptop has the AMD Ryzen AI 9 chipset with NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics, 32 GB DDR5 RAM and a 1 TB SSD. The laptop has a 6-cell 83 Wh lithium-ion battery and an RGB backlit keyboard. Unfortunately, the operating system crashed during the initial setup. Since it had not been registered HP, none of the HP support systems recognized the machine's serial number and could not provide support. Even though I had purchased an HP Care Pack, I had to pay an outside vendor to help me get it up and running. Reloading the operating system and updating all of the drivers fixed the issue. Despite the software glitch and lackluster automated support from HP, once I got it up and running, it has been an outstanding value. The performance and graphics are great and I am glad to have the number pad back (my previous 16-inch Omen laptop had omitted it). It boots up quickly and the battery lasts longer than my previous laptop. I was pleasantly surprised that even though it is a big laptop, it does not feel any heavier than my 16-inch laptop. Overall, I would highly recommend this product. I have been an HP customer for years and next to my Omen desktop, this laptop has great performance. I would have given it five stars if not for the startup and support issues.

This 17" laptop is affordable yet powerful. I've always been an Alienware and Lenovo fan, but I actually like HP's gaming laptop line for the first time. The battery life is decent for a gaming laptop, and the full-size keyboard is a plus. I would definitely recommend this to fellow gamers. It is a bit heavy though.

I customized an OMEN 17" laptop with a Ryzen 9 AI processor, RTX 5070 GPU, 32 GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD specifically to run MSFS 2024. Overall, I'm very pleased with the build quality and how well it handles Flight Simulator for my needs. I would have given it five stars had I known that the RTX 5070 is not quite able to handle MSFS 2024 on ultra graphics settings at 1440p well. It provides playable performance at medium or lower settings. This isn't a fault of HP, but I mention it to inform serious gamers of the limitation. This is my 4th HP laptop and I have always appreciated HP support on the rare occasions I have needed it.

My previous laptop was a HP Envy 17" touch screen with DVD/CD player. I bought in in 2017 and was a really nice and well working computer until it wasn't. I purchased several other 17" models since this size works for me. One was a Acer and two were HP's All were supposed to be gamer quality by design. Albeit they didn't work for me for various reasons but this review is about the Omen 17.3 Inch Laptop. First off I'm not a gamer but I like a faster processing speed for these types of laptops and thus the reason for the various purchases that I have made. I also use my laptop for extending videos to watch on my big screen TV so the screen image is important to me. I can't say that I am happy with my purchase but will say that I have settled with it, when compared to others that I have owned in the past. It boasts a 17.3" QHD (2560 x 1440) IPS display with refresh rates up to 240 Hz and a 3ms response time is available. My experience when using it to watch videos through the Miracast or the wireless display using the 240 Hz on my LG TV SJ8500 is less than adequate. My TV has 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate and with TruMotion 240Hz. When using the Omen built-in wireless display and only 9 feet away, I experience a lot of delay and frequent pixelation when connected to my TV. My best option is to use my 8K HDMI cable but even then the picture viewed is not stellar as I hoped for when I purchased this laptop. Let's talk about the sound coming out of this laptop. It's Terrible!! Using headphones there is no issue but the speakers can hardly be heard on most videos at full blast if you want to call it that. The design has the speakers pointed at your lap and gets quite muffled due to that design. My HP Envy had great speakers that were focused to be directed at you from the top of the laptop. I will go out on a limb and say that is by design for gamers since they use headphones all the time. That still doesn't help others such as myself. The laptop's port selection includes USB Type-A, USB Type-C®, HDMI-out, a headphone/microphone combo, and RJ-45. If I had the choice I would prefer more additional USB ports to be on the side versus most in the back. I would also like to have the RJ-45 in the back instead the on the left side where it can be damaged. I don't use the wireless connection like most others do so the RJ-45 is an important feature for me. Another pet peeve of mine is the black color of the laptop. Being named Omen the color is fitting..LOL.. That said, when trying to put anything into a connection port in a dull lighted area it's almost impossible for me. I have to use a handy little flashlight to plug anything in. This is my first black laptop and it will be my last. Let's talk about other features that I don't like with Windows 11 when using this computer. I do like the convivence of using the Windows Hello feature for logging into the computer and various websites. However this feature only works half the time even after resetting it a couple times for better recognition. Another issue is that after an Windows update (mostly) this laptop loses it's internet connection and needs an additional reboot to get the intranet adapters to work again as they should. It happens off and on even without a new update so I'm not sure where the blame lies for that issue. I did experience the same problem with my old HP Envy laptop so most likely this is a Windows OS issue that needs to be fixed. That said, maybe a driver issue causes this ??? The processor of this laptop is supposedly rated for speeds that can reach up to a 5.2 GHz. The AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 w/ Radeon 860M built into the laptop only shows 2.00 GHz being used. My older laptop ran at 2.9 GHz but got bogged down through the years. This laptop is brand new and seems to be working fairly well for the meantime. There have been times where it gets stuck or frozen but I can't say if that's a program, website or software issue. Only time will tell how it will perform from here. One more thing that I don't like about the keyboard. I subconsciously keep hitting the "K or k" key when I need the "H of h" key. They look very similar on this keyboard when not paying attention. That's my bad... :) Would I recommend this to others? I'm not sure! If you have similar reasons or habits like mine, then the answer is NO. If you are a gamer then maybe. I don't do games so I'm not one to comment even though there are plenty of gaming apps that come with the laptop. The choice is yours! HP if you read this and want to send me a replacement - I won't say no!!
