Not only did I get sometime early in 2020, but has to regularly replace the cartridges several times a month, but it is now giving an "end of life, replace with new imagining unit".

I don't know who designed the task interface-but they should be fired. This printer defaults to copy as if that's all anyone would want to do. If you want to print from your computer, good luck figuring out the task panel and actually getting it to connect with your device and print. It won't stay connected for more than a few seconds. Trying to print a simple page out of Word becomes a 45 minute grueling task as I try to get it connected to wi-fi and stay connected (even though my other devices have no trouble staying connected). I really hate this printer. I dread having to print anything because the rinky-dink interface is so complicated and primitive (not at all intuitive) and if you don't do it every day it takes an hour to figure out. How hard should it be for the printer to identify a wifi connection, hook up and print? No, you have to jump through hoops - Do you want wifi on or off? Do you want to use the wizard, then it searches for network - oh yeah, found one. Now give me the password. Now, the keyboard is so primitive it has about 6 different symbols per button, so scroll through endlessly, push okay! Oops, should have pressed an arrow. Start over again. Why can't it hook up to a network one time and remember it like every other device does. I really hate this printer. By the way, beware of the easy refund promise. I wanted to return it and THIS printer isn't eligible. WHY NOT?! I paid over $400 for it! I'll never buy from HP again. Oh yeah, no user manual. You gotta figure this one out by yourself. And no help online either. HP doesn't care once they have your money.

I'd seen a similar model in a store, but bought this on-line not paying quite enough attention to the features. What I purchased has FAX capability -- not something I need, resulting in a lot of extraneous buttons and phone cable ports that I ignore. The connection to our home devices is via USB connection to one desktop computer, but other devices can print wirelessly. I'd expected a LAN connector -- but there wasn't one. The paper tray accommodates a variety of paper sizes, but switching is inconvenient. To print a legal sized page or an envelope, I must remove the paper tray, empty it of its 8.5X11" paper and load the different size. A single sheet bypass would have been a nice feature. All that said -- the printer makes good quality copies at a reasonable speed. I like the printer's low energy sleep mode when it's not being used. The scanning software is simple to use. It's possible to make copies directly from the printer without using a program on my desktop computer. Having both a sheet feeder that handles multiple pages along with a flatbed scanner is convenient.

Printing functions are as expected for a unit of this size and speed, no problems there. However I after several hours attempting to get the one-button scanning to work, it still refuses to connect to the computer, even if it sees it, which it randomly doesn't. Getting through to tech support at this time has been impossible; understandable given the current situation, but still frustrating.

Scanner function is really slow, probably because it can't use 5G. Really disappointed in getting a new printer that was rated well in Consumer Reports, but can't use the latest speed available. Does stay connected to the internet, which is why I replaced my old HP InkJet.

The printer came nicely (recycleable!) packaged, and quickly. However the reference manual asked the user to refer to the User Manual, which did not come with the printer. I found it finally on the HP site. The instructions for wireless hookup did not work (it said to press certain buttons which were not on my printer), luckily my Mac "discovered" it. And I had to find how to copy and scan digging through the manual. I think there should be a short users manual in the box with the most used features explained.

I bought the MFP a couple of months ago to reduce the number of devices on my desk. For the price, it is a decent printer, however there are some disadvantages. 1) the laser ink cartridges are small and need replaced more often than other color laser printers in our company. 2) Even in you change the printer settings to accommodate card stock weight for report covers, it will not feed through. 3) I could not scan docs directly from the printers control panel, I have to use the API on the computer. 4) Scanner is slow. If you have to do 20+ pages, you need to grab a cup of coffee or take a bathroom break. 5) small paper tray capacity, I have to reload a couple of times or more each week. It could be alright for low volume, light duty printing. I had higher expectations from HP.

The hp Color Laser MFP 179fnw purchased 5 weeks ago is working beautifully. It has much more technology to it than my previous CANON did. I'm glad I switched!! Keep up the good work HP.

Great printer, works and prints well. Just we needed for our office. Only down side is I didn't know that the paper tray sticks out and stays like that which is kind of silly, but all-in-all what we needed.

I bought this printer about month ago and have discovered it's not as good as I hoped it to be. Printing double sided is a nightmare, I'm not a fan of the paper try not fully going back in after opening. Hard to set up WiFi printing and mobile printer. Takes forever to print black and white pages.

Very good solution for our home network printing needs. Easy to install. Great printing response from smart phone. Good phone app for doc scanning and conversion to pdf. Only complaint is OCR functionality could be more accurate for text scanning and editabiliy.

Bought this printer to replace a long series of inkjet printers and I've been very happy with it. I'm looking forward to the ink not drying out as is common with ink jet that is used infrequently. My only wish would be the ability to auto-duplex. Two items to be aware of: 1. Make sure you follow the setup directions. There are several steps that need to be done in order or you'll have to start over again. 2. In order to scan, you need to activate the scanner from the HP Smart app. It works great, but I kept trying to find a button on the printer and there isn't one!

It is slow to respond, goes into sleep mode and you must hit the start button for a response and then it goes into warm up mode.

Just installed yesterday, super easy. Had to download the driver because my OS is old, but no issues. Works with my iPhone print app and is hooked up wireless. Nice compact size.

The shipping was quick, it came a day earlier than scheduled. The set up directions were great for connecting to my wireless network. You need to send directions for how to "select country" No where were there directions saying to use the arrow key to switch the USA "No" to "Yes". You need more than just pictures about how to take it out of the box. There was nothing about how to set up the printer once it was connected to a wireless network.

This printer was easy to work with from the get-go. HP provides very simple instructions in the user guide to set up the printer. There was minimal assembly, just the paper drawer, and that was simple.I have a home-based business. I have been looking for a real solid printer, as I need to print multi-page documents, such as lease agreements. I think I have finally found it.What I really like about this model is the quality of the printed document. Letters and pictures are crisp. The color output is outstanding. I have to compare this with the numerous printers that I have purchased in the past that have not come close to meeting my needs and expectations. My suggestion for improvement would be to make the central button easier to understand. I do find myself consulting the guide very often, to learn to navigate the functions. There are a fair amount of options on this printer, so it does take some time to get comfortable with it. My overall impression of this printer is that it is a wise choice for a small business, where rapid output is not required, but professional quality is desired.

I have not cared for extremely large printers that take up a lot of space on my desk while having a ton of functions I don`t need.This printer is the perfect compromise. The weight of the printer is a little on the heavy side so I was discouraged as I took it out of the box but was happy to see it took up even less space on my desk as my fewer-functioned existing printer. The printer has more height than width.I am not one for reading directions so I tested how far I could get in setup without referring to the manual. Cords and ink compartments were as expected. The printer fired up on plug in and power on. I only referred to the manual for locating the menu button and setting up the wireless connection. I printed a beautiful, almost picture-like color page on my first test run. The black and white test page was as expected.Printing from my Android phone required install of two apps; however, upon launch of the apps, the connection to the printer was effortless. With all the fax, copy, color, wireless functionality, I expected a clunky, difficult to use product. Instead, it was a pleasant surprise and looks quite nice on my desk.

Setting up the printer was simple and I used a wireless connection. I did have some trouble with loading the paper, I kept getting an error to load paper so I had to adjust the paper settings. I started with simple color printing of a newsletter which was good, no streaking or fading of the colors. Next, I moved to my personal favorite of printing photos of my grandchildren and making my own collages! Of course, you need quality photo paper which I used. I used the HP printer app which was user friendly and had many options to choose from. I am satisfied with this printer and I love the HP Smart app.

Over the past year, each of us has experienced an increase in our work demand which has required us to evolve our home office set up. We both have our own inkjet printers and felt like we were both constantly buying ink for them. In the past, each of us had used laser printers in our corporate jobs but never considered them for the home because of the cost associated with them. Now that I have used the HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw I can`t imagine going back to the costly inkjet.SETUPI opened the box and outside of getting the printer out of the box, setup was a breeze. I am not known for reading instructions as I tend to think of myself as technically savvy and with the easy setup of this printer, I was able to hold true to that sentiment. There is a very helpful booklet that takes you step by step to set up the printer in case you need it. All there really is to do is:1. Remove all of the packing tape (blue) that is placed in various places around the printer that keep things in place during transit.2. Plus the printer into the wall3. Input your WiFi information and ensure there is a solid blue light4. Install the HP Smart app on your phone and you are all set! You can install drivers for your PC or Mac and although I did, I rarely used the print from PC situation. There is no need for the USB connection unless there is no network available. I did not use it, even to print from my PC (which was much less than from my phone). HP SMART APPThe app is very easy to use. It has a simple Graphic Interface so you can easily choose to scan, copy or print from your phone. However, you would need to be at the printer to scan or copy as you would need to feed those into the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder). But, if you have pictures you want to print and the printer is set up, you could have those images all ready printed by the time you get home. One of the great options is being able to link your Facebook and Instagram to print pictures automatically from those platforms. The app allows you to select your printing properties and to make subtle adjustments to the documents if needed. A downside to printing from Instagram is the size. The pictures are basically squares and placing small photo paper into the feed tray is the least desirable thing to do with this printer. The feed tray is at the bottom and it is not very solid. In order to put 4x6 or other small printing media, the user needs to pull out the feed tray, modify the size inside, press a little "release" which is then only issue I had with this printer. It was a burden until I worked out a system. It was a little frustrating at first and although I have a system now, the process seems a little counterintuitive. I had a very hard time collapsing the feed tray to accommodate the media and once I would get it to collapse, then it wouldn`t slide all the way back in. It was an arduous task and I would have appreciated another feed tray for media that isn`t used often. I also suggest that you get laser print media/paper as it makes a huge difference in quality. Initially I couldn`t figure out why the images were not as vibrant as expected. Once I purchased the correct media the images were amazing!The app allows you to make subtle adjustments to your photo to accommodate sizing to the media but it`s very basic. I believe it`s best to make adjustments before you select your image. This printer is everything I need for my business. I do a lot of writing along with graphic design and the quick printing along with ease of use from the app makes this printer more versatile than I anticipated. I was concerned that the cost of ink might be a barrier to using this product. However, with the sheer volume of printing you can accomplish with these ink cartridges, it`s a way better value than constantly refilling inkjet cartridges. Overall, I am highly impressed with this product because of the pricing, quality and ease of use. I would recommend this product to anyone who uses printers on a daily basis at home or in your small office because of the cost-effectiveness, quality and convenience.

The printer was securely packed and everything was included in the box I needed. It came with a USB cord to directly plug the computer into my computer but I opted for wireless WiFi option.The set up was a breeze, did it myself without a problem! Easy instructions to follow and I had it totally connected and printing within 20 minutes! I was able to download and install the program quickly and printed a quality test page. This was very satisfying to be able to set up and install this printer without any help or difficulties-easy and quick. The HP website has tons of instructions and help topics and has a live "chat" option. I did not have any problems but at least the information is all there without having to search for it if needed.I like the all in one ability to scan, copy and fax with such a compact design. This printer is 30% smaller than my previous one and is so quiet. I actually don`t feel so overwhelmed with this in my office! The quality of the color copies is amazing. The color pops right off the page. I did a report with colored graphs and was so impressed with the professional job I created. Turned out a large document rapidly with great results. Very pleased that an all-in-one printer produced such a superior document so easily. The paper tray is smaller than what I am used to but it`s definitely not a big issue.Overall I am quite impressed with this printer. The compact size is a plus for me since space is an issue but all the features worked easily for me. Having a built in scanner makes it so quick to "feed" in and the unit looks quite dapper in my office. Being able to print documents from anywhere including my phone is a joy, the WiFi feature is fabulous. But the best hing is that is is so user friendly. I was able to set the entire unit up by myself correctly without outside help or frantic calls to family for help! The unit was up and running smoothly, and the results are great. The crisp quality of the written pages is great but the color graphics are truly impressive. Great product and easy to use.

My office is very small so I was excited to see that HP had created a color laser printer that was affordable and would fit perfectly on top of my desk.Shipping: The printer was sent securely to my home with very little waste. So many times when you receive a package, it is over sized for the item so more packing materials have to be used. I was impressed that every packing piece sent by HP was recyclable, even the tape.Set Up: The instructions sent with the printer were minimal, but there was a step by step picture guide on how to set up the printer and how to download the HP Smart App on my phone. I felt that both were a very easy process.Features: The front control panel of the printer consists of simple press buttons that are easily identifiable for their function. A diagram of each button and the control panel light patterns was also sent with the printer. Interestingly there is an ID copy button. I am not sure how often I would use this function, but it will print the front and back of an ID on one page so it will definitely save on paper. There is also a scale button to enlarge or reduce the size of the print and a contrast button to adjust the lightness or darkness the print.Product Compared to Other Products: I have only used laser printers at an office supply store and feel like the quality of the print is very similar to the larger laser printers I have used in the store. The printer I use at home is much slower than the HP Color Laser MFP so I look forward to using the laser for faster printing.Quality Expectations: Based on the printer`s size, I was not sure if it would perform as well as the laser printers I have used at the store. Much to my surprise, the quality of the print is very good. Recommendations for Improvements: 1) Once you put the paper in tray, it will not close completely into the printer. This adds another 3 or 4 inches to the width of the printer. I did go to the HP chat page and there was mention of a clip that needed to be adjusted, which I tried with no success. 2) The paper size clip is hard to adjust at first. I recommend a "tip page" to address these type of issues. 3) The print was vibrant when printed from my phone or computer, but when I copied or scanned a page on the printer, it was more dull.Overall Impressions: I think the printer is a great addition for a small home or business office. I am not the most technical person so I was a little nervous about connecting the printer to my computer and phone. I was so happy that the process was really easy.
