I travel about a week a month for my job, so was needing something to fit on a plane with me but powerful enough to work image editing software every now and then. This HP is perfect for what I needed. It has touch screen capabilities which is a nice bonus sometimes and the 4k screen is crystal clear.Bonus points for Adorama when my first laptop I bought through a 3rd party came to me with a bent screen, I called them up, told them my issue and they overnight am delivered a brand new one right then without any questions, they organized a return box for my damaged laptop so I just had to have it picked up.Overall extremely happy with the laptop and service I received at Adorama

I've had good luck with FACTORY refurbished laptops in the past. What is especially appealing about HP's refurbished laptops is the fact that their extended warranties, aka care packs, apply to both new and refurbished computers. My only other experience with HP was also a 13" envy, purchased in 2015. That model, as well as this one, are both impressive on the outside; unfortunately, the insides are a different story. The last Envy had to be repaired three times before I got fed up and sold it. The motherboard was replaced twice. I was impressed with HP's customer service (in the same class as Dell IMO) but in the end, didn't think I could depend on the Envy. Three years later, I saw this refurbished laptop on Adorama's website and couldn't pass it up as the same model currently retails for $1400.00 on Costco.com. I believe Costco chooses their laptops largely on reliability, a further indication this Envy would be a great purchase. The laptop arrived one day early packed extremely well. I am pretty OCD and after careful inspection of every milometer, I could not find a single scratch or mark anywhere. The laptop is beautiful. The silver is very muted, and should be called "polished nickel." The keys are soft and responsive. The screen a sight to behold (though could benefit from more brightness). I did extensive research on the internet and it seemed all the Envy's with the new 8th gen i7 came standard with a fingerprint scanner for Windows Hello (a $25.00 fee on HP's build your own models). Unfortunately, this model DOES NOT have a fingerprint scanner and therefore does not have any Windows Hello attributes. The touchpad is very responsive but is NOT a precision touchpad (this is purely preference I think as some like the synaptics driven driver-I am not a fan). Start-up for the Envy takes surprisingly long given its innards. I clocked almost 15 seconds (not a bad number but most laptops with a 7th or 8th gen intel processor AND Pcie SSD take less than 10 seconds). Tested side-by-side with a Samsung Spin 7 with 8th gen i5 and 8gb of RAM disappointing. Opening Chrome along with other various programs were all visibly slower on the HP Envy. While doing these tests, the Envy died a blue death. After a second blue screen, I ran the HP provided diagnostics and got hard drive failure. This, coupled with minor incidents such as pushing the brightness up button and it only registering after 2 or 3 seconds or needing another push, made me realize this was not going to be the computer for me. It's sad as it is a great looking laptop with much potential. If I could afford two laptops, I would buy an HP as I would not worry about being laptop-less for expected warranty repairs.

Title of review says it all. As an IT professional for 45 years before retiring a few years ago, I've dealt with Windows machines since the early 1980s. After retiring, I tried a MacBook Pro. I guess I've become a Mac Addict because I tried to go back to Windows 10 with the HP ENVY. It was a good, fast machine, but Windows 10 is more convoluted than anything I'd experienced before. I gave the HP Envy away.

I got one of this from Costco and there is hardware failure within 60 days. Honestly, I even had not used this much. All of my critical documents are lost. HP wants to repair it but I am not as I am not sure how long will it work after repair. I recommend to avoid purchasing this device. Well I am under 90 day purchase period, I will be returning this device back in Costco.

This computer surpassed my expectations. It boots instantly, is very stable, and can handle multi edits with Lightroom and Photoshop simultaneously while at the same time streaming video from YouTube. I just wish that the fan was a little less noisy when it is running at ful speed.
