Great device but I have had to replace two of them with 1 to 2 years. Another one the ethernet socket quit working and I had to use a USB-C adapter to get internet connection.

Took sometime to find the right docking station for my HP Pavilion 16. It might be a little more expensive than some of the other docking stations out there but this has exacting what I needed. It matches the power supply of the laptop so it's always charged. Could use maybe one or two more ports and it would be nice if the audio mini plug port was in the rear.

It's a good dock. Only wish it had a better form factor. Does the job.

I was sold the wrong dock for my laptop. This doesn't provide enough power for my laptop which it was paired with ?from hp. Pretty expensive disappointment.

This is a conditional review. When the G4 arrived, it did not work properly out of the box. Several days of frustration attempting to understand what was wrong connecting this to my HP Fury G8 17" and two standalone monitors was very frustrating as the monitors would not display, my G8 continued to go into sleep mode despite my settings and the connected SSD's would not show up as connected. A 1-2 hour session was required with HP Business Support, downloading several SP files and installing same to get this G4 to work properly - kudos to HP Business Support, however this G$ should have come with an installation cd that would have prompted all of this when I first connected it to the laptop. That would have saved me at least 2-3 days of frustration and loss of working hours.

I am having a lot of trouble with the docking station. Something is not working right with the communication with the docking station and the computer. All of the external items are dropping out. At this point the docking station is only good for power.

This dock works exceptionally well with the Ubuntu OS that came pre-loaded with my HP Zbook Power 16 G11 A. The port density is exceptional, it's got enough juice to charge the laptop, and the built in Ethernet port is nice if I want to use two Ethernet ports at once. The one caveat however, is that Ubuntu constantly throws a PCIe Data-Link error for the thunderbolt connection to the laptop. While it isn't specifically affecting the laptop in a negative way, it fills up the DMESG log and there is no way to seemingly correct the issue. Since HP refuses to support an OS they preload, you either have to figure it out yourself or use the Ubuntu forums. While I am Linux savvy, this issue has so far eluded me. HP, if you are going to advertise an OS for your devices, you need to provide at least some level of minimal support with your own equipment.

Every time I plug the Ethernet cable into it I lose internet connection, but as soon as I connect direct to the laptop, I'm back online. I didn't spend all this money to have to connect to the laptop. That's why I bought the docking station. So just the laptop to the docking station and done. Nothing else has been an issue. Just have been too busy to contact HP.

The newer block dock requires less space than the original docks. I have had no problems with connections, with device communication, or device recognition. My complaint or suggestion is to remove the DP ports and add more USB-A and USB-C ports. I had to add a USB hub for the rest of my connections.

When I first connected it to my laptop and connected my hubs to the dock, the laptop only saw one device from each hub. I checked HP's web site and found out that the dock had been delivered with out-of-date firmware. I downloaded and installed the latest dock firmware, after which everything was hunky-dory. It's HP's job to make sure their devices are delivered with up-to-date firmware. HP failed to do that. The customer should not have to fix HP's failures. Bottom line: device fine, HP failed.

It has been years since I used a docking station and they have come a long way to todays product, which can handle 12 connections. The HP Thunderbolt Dock 280W G4 w/Combo Cable has operated without any problems and is far superior to any thing used prior to this. The thing I like most is the fact that all devices related to my computer connect to the dock directly and one switch controls all. PDMyers

Good Dock but pricey, also larger than normal due to higher power output. We also had an issue with ASUS Pro Art Monitors connected to this dock using Display Port to Display Port cables (monitors kept connecting / disconnecting). Display Port to HDMI worked without issues, however this may be a Windows 11 issue and not a hardware issue.

Laptops are port challenged. Your best fix is this HP dock. Ports for video, usb C and usb 2 or 3, cat 6 and more, and it makes no noise. Bravo!

I have some physical issues that cause me problems when I am using the computer for a long time. The dock is most helpful in plugging in the extra components I need to be comfortable.

This is the 120W smaller cousin to the 280W docking station. Despite the lower power output, it can handle all the basic needs of a small business work station setup. Excluding the type-C cable connection from the docking station to the PC, it has 11 various ports: 4-USB type-A super speed (2 with charging), 3-USB 3.0 type-C (1-standard type-C, 1-type-C Thunderbolt 4, 1-type-C+DisplayPort), 2-DisplayPort, 1-HDMI , 1 ethernet. This allows you to hook up at least 2 monitors [max up to 4 depending on the PC]. This cube-like docking station has a small footprint and can handle most of your basic connection needs.,

Great dock for 2 4K monitors. I am using an HP Elitebook along with a 4K BenQ and an LG 4K. Both are running at the 4K resolution as is the Elitebook. No problems. I'm not seeing any flickering at all. Consistent connection all around.

This device is excellent and long overdue. It provides simplified docking without specialization. It allows for alternate devices to be connected with ease and functions as outlined in the documentation. .

Before purchasing the Thunderbolt G4, I messaged back and forth with the HP online sales person. I gave them my computer's type (OMEN by HP 17-cb0092nr, Product Number: 7MV55UA#ABA and Serial Number: CND937500X) and they said they confirmed that the docking station would be fully compatible with my laptop. Sadly, when it arrived and I set everything up, it did not work. I received the message that the device functionality might be limited. After troubleshooting and even making it worked on other "lightening port" laptops, I contacted HP customer support who was no help at all getting it to work with my computer and thus I am having to return to HP.
