Touch pad is a nightmare

We bought this laptop for my husband, and since my HP dv-2000 series is on its last days, I've been using it. The left and right click action is laborious, requiring extra effort to hold down a click while cutting and pasting text. I already developed an arthritic bump on my index finger from the old laptop (even though that touch pad is a dream), but using this one exacerbates my arthritis. A blog post takes much longer to do. The screen is constantly, and accidentally enlarging. I'm constantly having to bring it back to normal size, either with the zoom function or by sweeping my index fingers towards one another on the touch pad. The keyboard is okay. No problems, there. My spouse will continue using this one, although, he, too is frustrated with it. Fortunately, he doesn't do much cutting and pasting. I'm sorry we ordered this sight unseen. Next time, we'll drive 50 miles to a brick and mortar store (if there are any left in business after manufacturers like HP don't drive all of them under by selling directly), and look close and hard before we make another purchase.

Falls apart after a few months

This product is great - it's features and performance are super! It is light, looks great, and is very quick. It's good for gaming, media, anything you can think of. The lid seemed a little flimsy at first, but hey, it was a light weight laptop and cetainly worked well. That is, until you get to around a year of owning it, your basic warranty expires, and the plastic pieces that this computer is made of start to crack and fall off. I used it for personal use, and had not even dropped it, when I noticed a small crack in the lining around the bottom part of the screen. Then, then plastic casing around the screen began to pop away from the screen. Then, a plastic piece fell out from inside the hinge, and I cannot even close the top anymore because the screen is sliding off the metal hinge. HP charges almost $200 for a repair like this, and this having been my 3rd HP with problems of pieces falling off, you can imagine how I feel. Bottom line: If you buy this laptop, be sure to factor in the extra cost for an extended warranty - you will NEED it, unless you are willing to pay more out of pocket when the laptop starts to fall apart.

Like this computer

Was glad to find a computer with just windows 7 on it . Wasn't ready to do all the switching to 8 . The touch on the keyboard is very comfortable , and have had no problem with transfer of info from my old one. Brushed aluminum is a nice feature, Sound quality is satisfactory. I don't game this is mostly for business and personal use. Overall very satisfied with my hp envy.

Great laptop at a very good price

We are thoroughly enjoying our HP ENVY Sleekbook; the only disappointment so far has been that it does not appear to have the advertised backlit keyboard ... one of the reasons that we chose this particular model. Other than that it is great--lightweight, great resolution, fast, and extremely user-friendly.

Good, but read fine print

This computer does what it needs to do. It's compact and has good battery life. I thought it would have a backlit keyboard, but apparently in really small letters that is only in certain regions. Overall, I'm enjoying it!

Excellent all-around value

I was seeking a second laptop, with Windows 7, to supplement my HP Specter 14 Ultrabook (outstanding) -- sometimes I like to have computers in two locations, and I wanted one that would perform all of my most common tasks. Well, I came across this beautiful sleek laptop, which, with the Windows 7 system, came at a nice price ... so I ordered it. I've owned and used it now for several weeks. It is really an excellent laptop in its own right, so I've happily discovered that I've acquired more than "just" an extra laptop. It is lightweight, compact for its screen size, and has a good display, good keyboard, and good performance. The AMD processor is not as fast as an Intel 7, but it does the job quite well (serious gamers should, of course, go for a really high-end processor). Minor things to be aware of: As one other person has noted in another review, there is a pop-up message regarding a need to download an AMD graphics driver. I've made this download from AMD's website three times (with a "successful" message each time), but the pop-up message continues to appear. Just a minor annoyance; performance doesn't seem to be affected. Also, be aware of the software that comes with the computer and the software that doesn't come with the computer. This is all shown accurately on the HP shopping website, but please do take the time to read it. You get the Windows 7 operating system, but not the full suite of commonly used Microsoft applications (so add this to the purchase cost when making comparisons). All in all, this is a very good laptop, it is doing everything and more that I expected (and I'm using it a lot). I would make this same purchase again if my circumstances were repeated.

Sleekbook is well designed & easy to use features

With the exceptions of: 1. An apparently unforeseen incompatibility between the processor/chip and an Optional Update, revealed by a persistent error message which required a couple of tech support contacts and a complete OS re-installation/System Recovery and 2. The rather deep Memory card reader slot which requires a pair of tweezers to remove any inserted cards, I am very happy with my new Sleekbook.

Very nice feel and look

The Envy Sleekbook is a very light and well built product, with nice tacktile feel to the keyboard, and easy to read screen. I somtimes wish it had a DVD r/w built in, but that would add weight and probably some heat. Downloading programs froml internet has been easy and quick, and connection to home network went smoothly. Screen is nice size for displaying multiple pages and viewing videos.

Great laptop

My college-age son's laptop crashed and burned right before Christmas. I knew he needed a new one ASAP for his college work. However, he did not want the new Windows 8 OS. I Googled Windows 7 and the HP Envy came up. I checked the specs, realized this was perfect for him, ordered it and he is up and running for his classes and very happy with his new laptop. It is a great product.

Know what you are ordering first

CONS: This product does not have a CD/DVD burner in it. The touchpad does not have a left/right button so it is very tricky when trying to select items like you would on a typical touchpad or mouse. One of the keys did not work properly so unit was returned. PROS: Very lightweight, quick and easy to set up because of Windows7. Liked the rubber bottom as it felt more secure on the lap.

"Sleek" Win7 Laptop

I really like this Envy6 sleek laptop, one of the last few laptops still available with Windows 7. It's thin, light, fast and sharp! Just beware that you WILL need to update the AMD Graphics driver (Catalyst Control Center software) using the AMD website (*not* the HP website) to get rid of a startup error message that pops up after applying all the usual required updates that all new laptops need. Hopefully HP can quickly roll the Dec 2012 released AMD graphics driver (v. 9.12.0.0) into their support site.

GOOD EVERYDAY LAPTOP

I've had this for about 6 weeks. Overall I'm pleased; think it was a good value. Not for gamers, but has everything needed for school and home computing. IT LOOKS GOOD! The space bar is very touchy, you need to strike it in the middle or it doesn't move. Had to buy an external DVD drive, but I knew it didn't have an optical drive when I bought it. No regrets, it works for me.

8 days after arrival will not turn on dead monitor

Initially I loved the look and feel of this computer build quality seemed good. I was not excited by the number of downloads and installs that were necessary. Once the computer was set up it ran okay although it did seem to process much slower than my iPad (3) when they were both directed to the same websites. Fan noise was okay battery life was okay. The 8th day of ownership began with the computer failing to boot up/start up. The monitor was so dark I had to use a flashlight to read the dialog box on the screen. Sending repair?! after 8 days of use?

Laptop is as advertised, but.....

I ordered this laptop online through HP. It is pretty much as advertised on the site and for the most part functions okay. However, you have to be careful that you specify EVERYTHING you want. I assumed that it would have a CD drive, but it did not. Now I have to order an external drive, or go to the trouble of sending the laptop back. It was also short on the number of USB ports, and it had no connection for a projector, so I won't be making an presentations with it. You also need to make sure that it is loaded with the software that you expect. My advice...don't assume anything. I also don't care for the keyboard keys. I like my Dell keyboard better. The extreme sensitivity of the touchpad and the "one key" right/left click button had me logging out by accident and changing screens at random. I have had three other laptops, and at best I rate this one average.

Perfect laptop for the college student

If you are a serious gamer, this laptop (sleekbook) is not for you. However, if you are a student of any kind, this is the laptop for you! Great looks, plenty of memory, super fast, and a great audio system (perfect for presentations), crammed into a super slim profile. I bought one for my fiance for christmas and I may just have to buy my own now!!!

Great battery life. Premium look and fee

I bought two of these, wife and me. We both teach English online in a foriegn country so it is essential to have the battery life to make it through a power failure. Love it's thin profile and and use of aluminum. The underside is a one piece plastic but that is a very, very good thing as it is a soft touch plastic that feels so much better than other metal of plastic bottoms of other laptops. this make it extremly comfortable in the lap and you don't worry about it scratching up like Macbooks do. Good performing AMD Trinity chip. Stays cool. The audio loudness and quality is perfect for watching movies in bed. Track pad is the first in any laptop that I have had that is actually useful. Keyboard is average, don't expect Lenovo quality here would love more travel and some cupping to the keys and backlit. Upgraded both with an Intel 6235 wireless adapter. I puchased a Gskill 16GB RAM kit and took the module from mine to give my wife's 8GB. I plan to later get an SSD when prices drop further but boot up is still quick.

PC is verygood for the money.

I read the reviews for this model which were not very complimentary but they were comparing it to lap tops that were more than twice the cost. Clearly this is not a top of the line model and you didn't pay for a top model but it is great for everyday computing.

Greatness

Upgrading from Windows XP, this Sleekbook fits every need I have as a student. I have over 1,500 songs on my iPhone, so the Beats Audio makes my listening experience better 100 fold. I got this laptop for $480, over $200 off the original price, but it is still worth it, regardless of how much it costs. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a new computer and I hope that if you decide to get it, that it cheers you up just in time for the holiday spirit. 10/10

Good enough for the price

Computer is slow. I added second stick of 4GB ram, after which it started crashing and giving me BSOD screen every half hour. I called customer service and after spending half of the day on the phone and online chat, they told me that I was not supposed to upgrade it, because it is not designed to be upgraded by an individual. It can only be done by special service people... That is not good. Anyway, computer is slow, internet is slow, wi fi broke within 1 week, had to reinstall the drivers already. The only good thing is thin, light, and good battery life.

Nice compact laptop

I did order and replace the RAM in the machine, so I am now running with 16gb and the benchmarking I did before and after shows a huge gain in performance by doing so. The machine is well made, light and connects to whatever I have wanted to connect it to. It's attractive and it has decent battery life. It has allowed me to work outside the confines of my office and my home office and spend more time in the company of my family, so it's a win for me.

Great!

I love it, it's an easy to use laptop that is customizable and very nice. The overall quality is nice, and the Beats Audio is great. I've had the laptop for a little over a month now, and I use it on a daily basis, usually twice a day, for periods stretching from 30 minutes to 2 hours. The laptop has only 1 headphone jack, which is not a big deal, but for some reason, only my Studio Beats appear to work with it. When i plug in Apple or Skullcandy Headphones, the audio shuts off, even at max volume, which is strange considering this laptop is relatively new. I don't know if it's a defect or if the actual jack only works with beats devices. Also, the speakers on the laptop get extremely dusty every few days, so I keep a cleaning cloth nearby to wipe it, which isn't a hassle, but can be annoying. This review is mainly for the people who plan on watching videos/movies and listening to music on the laptop. All other features are good, and there's really not much else to it.

The machine design is great. I can't say the same about the operating system compatibility with hardware. I can't start Windows. Therefore, I am contacting customer service to get an RMA for a return/exchange.

Beautiful laptop but,

If you actually care about more than how nice it looks, this might not be for you. Yes, it's built nicely but, lacking. Got it on sale on black friday and was excited. Unfortunately, the screen resolution and brightness are ridiculous for this 15.6 inch. It's hard to read even after setting the fonts/view to medium. My mom's net book is 20 xs brighter/clearer than this and it was under $200. The keyboard is another problem. You have to often press them down hard enough for them to work and the space bar is worse. It only works if you press it right on the middle. If you do a lot of typing don't buy this. The trackback is also annoying and has problems. I had to use my wireless mouse to get around before, I returned this product. The beats was nice but, not great lol. Just average.. very loud but, no real base was felt. I didn't expect it to be this big. I guess this is more of a table laptop not, to just use around in bed or lap. For the good part it runs pretty quick and had no connection problems. Win 7 is beautiful.

Well Balanced Machine

Thin and beautiful design, great battery life at 5.5 to 6 hours with normal use and settings but can easily last 8-9 hours with proper power management and settings. Fast enough for basic tasks and HD video. Nice keyboard and track pad. Cool thing, I was using this to out put Walle in 720p to my HD TV and I forgot to plug it in and it played the whole movie flawlessly. Was very impressed to have around 4hrs of battery life left after that. This is a great mobile PC for school and work. It is pretty durable but I still am very gentle with it. My only gripes are that smudges show up super easy and that the track pad buttons can get annoying sometimes. This is a very well balanced machine at a good price. I like how the focus of the product was mobility and design with out giving up too much performance to ruin the experience. I don't think there are any other 15.6" note books this thin, and i like the balance of portability and comfort. This machine is not impossible to upgrade either with simple screws on the bottom giving you access to the internal hardware. This model comes with a singe DIMM of 4GB which hurts performance with the AMD APU since they are very sensitive to memory bandwidth (since there is only one DIMM you only get single channel performance instead of dual channel). I plan to upgrade this guy latter with an SSD and another 4GB of ram. Over all this is a nice looking laptop with high mobility and a good price.

HP got this one right

By Shawn75

I'm most impressed with the industrial design of this laptop. It is lightweight and thin as advertised. The bottom is a dark reddish color, which surprised me a bit, but I actually really like it. The lid open/closing mechanism is slick... no latch needed because it snaps closed. It took me a minute to figure out that the whole mouse finger pad can be clicked for the mouse button, but I got used to that quickly. And probably most importantly, when the lid is closed and the machine goes into s...
