Great laptop, great price

I've owned a lot of laptops over the years, and this is far and away the best bang for the buck I've ever gotten.: The PC arrived in a timely fashion, and setup was a snap. System has everything you'd want in an all purpose entertainment PC. The Beats audio (hate the name) is much better than any of my other laptops, though its not perfect and lack of a bass speaker is a bit disappointing. But everything from Lady Gaga to Pink Floyd all sound great. Blu-ray looks great, something I was surprised about. Paying the extra for 1080p seems pointless after watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 on the 15.6" LED display (1366 x 768). The display itself is beautiful, though its very hard to read in some lighting conditions. This is due to the glossy finish I think, which seems to be the norm nowadays. I was skeptical about the keyboard, but was pleasantly surprised. Its excellent, as is the track-pad. Normally I can't stand track-pads, but so far I've suffered none of the umping cursors I usually experience when typing (I drop my right thumb onto track-pads a lot whilst typing). And if you still dislike or don't want to use it, a simple double tap turns the touchpad off. Oh, did I mention its also really darned fast? Negatives: The power adapter is a brick. Not sure why it needs to be quite so hefty. The chassis isn't completely aluminum, the bottom is plastic, which disappointed me. However it is solidly built, so I can't really complain to much. The biggest negative is the cursor key arrangement. Instead of inverse T, it uses a rectangular arrangement that is awkward. Far to easy to hit down or up instead of the reverse. Don't know why they couldn't have simply used the industry standard, its only been around for decades. Overall the DV6 6170us is a great laptop for a great price.

ITS A WORK IN PROGRESS I GUESS

I do enjoy this computer immensely, but i was rather disappointed that it came with quick launch instead of quick web like the dv7. I was also disappointed in the quality of sound in regards to the Beats Audio as opposed to the dv7 where the bass is excellent and on my dv6 there is no bass. Other than those two things the processor speed is awesome, the graphics are superb i game for hours at a time, and i barely hear the fan. it also allows you to adjust it when needed so that it doesnt over heat through the Cool Sense program. there are a lot of other surprisingly nifty features that this Laptop has like the webcam picture and feed is excellent. And of course all of the Microsoft and HP programs work together seemlessly. Lastly, I am in love with the Simple Pass program all that you have to do is enter your password once and after that your finger does the rest. did i mention that the picture quality is Awesome, I love to watch movies on my dv6!

I love it!

Great notebook: nice design, the dual graphics work perfect, screen is nice and bright, battery life is great, loads everything fast. I use it mostly for renderings and the quad core sandy bridge processor holds to its reputation, graphic card ATI Radeon HD 6770M is just fantastic. I will definitively recommend to anyone. It's a great value for the price.

very nice piece of equipment

This a great laptop. Pros: It seems well built, especially when compared to what is available in walk-in retail stores. The case is attractive and substantial, the keyboard has a solid touch, and the lid/monitor seems to be attached to the body in a way that suggests durability. Cons: My not being used to using a touch pad or a finger print reader means that I have had to develop a feel for their use. A more major con is the 5400 rpm hard drive. It seems much slower than my desktop's 7200 rpm drive.

HP Pavilion dv6-6170us Notebook PC

The finish looks cheap -- like low-end stainless cookware. The sound quality is terrible. I've only been using it for about a week and am sure I will get used to it but it really feels like a downgrade from my previous HP Pavillion. Disappointing purchase. My next will likely NOT be another HP.

Ideal

So far it's been nothing but great. It's quick, sexy, strong, and runs hardcore games with a breeze. When I am just browsing, the temperature is at average 45 degrees. When playing games such as League of Legends on full graphics, it goes from 55-60 degrees. It goes up to around 67 degrees when playing games for 2.5+ hours straight. Keep in mind it is around 80 degrees outside since it is Summer. (It also has a HP CoolSense to keep the temperature to a minimum) However, I am skeptic, and thus have bought a warranty just in case the laptop starts to break down.

Not So Bad

The design and quick response of this laptop is awesome especially with the fingerprint readerand I love it. It strangely sometimes get so hot which I don't why. I am still not impressed with the behavoir of the graphics card when I extend the display to the big screen. My picture sits in the center of the 42inch TV. The problem is I contacted tech support and did not seem to have a solution to that or maybe the support personnel did not know what he is doing. Apart from that the laptop is a tough one. Please let me know if there's any solutions out there.

CHEAPLY MADE

I just purchased this HP on Monday. I received it on Wednesday. I returned it the same day I received it. This computer was not even built correctly. The first thing I noticed was that the keyboard had to be 'snapped' back down in place. The top half of the keyboard was sticking out like they forgot to button it down. Then after that every time I typed the whole keyboard would bounce up and down. There was no stability in the keyboard. Also, the optical drive button did not work. Every time I pushed it nothing would happen. I had to use my finger nail and actually dig into the button to get the drive to pop out. the computer seems to be made cheaply and poor quality. The dell computer I have is cheaper in price but built better. Apple computers seem to be built the best. I guess I have to spend the money to get a quality built computer.

Nice

As good as it gets. Except for the larger Dv7. Which I bought last year. The Dv7 has spectacular sound, whereas the Dv6 has just the sound you'd expect.

One sweet ride!

This Laptop screams with Windows 7 64bit. Plays games in medium-high to high graphics modes without lag. Security is off the charts with the finger print reader. Beats Audio: I don't know what Dr. Dre did to my music but, it's the best thing since Wi-Fi! Speaking of Wi-Fi the built-in N-Wireless burns up the net like an Arsonist. Watching Blu-ray movies on it makes for a great show. Don't forget to switch Beats to Movie mode, wow that sounds good. Battery life is good for the performance. I get 4.75 to 5.25 hours out of it with medium use. 3 to 4 when gaming. The only thing lacking is the internal speakers. It has 4 of them which is great. I just wish they would have went with the JBL's from the older models. All said and done. This is a great system for a G.
