The 865 is an upsized, but light, version of the business workhorse EliteBook 840. This iteration was built over AMD CPU/GPU and configured with an ample 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD. HP skimped on the ports with only two USB-C (also used for charging), a combination headphone/mic jack and no HDMI. The laptop was sold at a steep discount, likely because of excess inventory as a result of being seriously overpriced. Unfortunately, as a Gen9, it shipped with Win10 and has stubbornly refused efforts to upgrade to Win11 that will probably require a system wipe to resolve. Overall rating: Meh

It's slim, fast and reliable so far. Nice resolution on the screen, however, it was shipped to me brand new from HP and it was missing an updated screen driver, so I couldn't increase the screen brightness at all. It was also missing an updated camera driver, so the webcam wouldn't work with Zoom. Had to update a bunch of drivers, and frankly I'd prefer HP to do all of that before selling me a high-end business laptop. The battery life is not quite as long as I'd like it to be, but it's sufficient.

I went to the store looking to purchase a Spectre, but was recommended this product due to the sale and apparently greater specs. This was a mistake. This laptop is incredibly bloated with software that makes even web navigation terrible. My apps for meeting online constantly drop, owing to lack of memory. I believe the bloatware is to blame for this. I trusted HP because my chromebook was able to handle most anything, but this has soured my feeling on the brand. I am sure my chromebook is a better machine than this, at a fifth the price. I would return this item and look for a different product if there weren't such a steep "restocking" fee.

My previous 5 laptops have been HP, but this will be the last one I purchase for awhile. My 3 biggest issues, in order: 1). Whenever the laptop "goes to sleep" it essentially turns off and closes all my windows. This is extremely frustrating and unacceptable. To prevent this from happening, all my power settings are set to "never sleep" which, as you can imagine, drains the battery. I need to take the charger everywhere I go, which is not a chore I must consider with my other laptops 2). Issues with start up. Roughly 40% of the start-up events experience some type of issue. The most common is the screen turning on with only the cursor visible, and the less common event, but still too frequent, the screen and the keyboard will not light and the fans turn on full blast. If I let it go on, I'm guessing the laptop would stay in this state until the battery dies, because I once let it run for a full hour. The only way to intervene is with a hard reset. 3). Finger print sensor doesn't work. The security settings claim that there is not finger print module; apparently this is a know issue. I've followed several debugging instructions online but to no avail. This HP has been the "best quality", most expensive laptop I've purchased and I feel cheated. I've had nothing but great experiences with their lower end models like the Envy, so I felt comfortable taking the dive into a nearly $2,000 dollar price tag, but this laptop has negated every positive opinion I have had for HP

Bottom line up front: Absolutely terrific laptop. Got a similar laptop for work for a while ago and had such a good experience I bought this version for myself. Great screen resolution, top notch material and build quality. Lightening quick operation and it does everything I could ask for. Solid recommendation.

Very nice laptop. Best ive ever owned. Runs very smooth and quiet under normal load, slight uptick of fan noise under heavier load. I got great deal and also decided to upgrade ram to 64gb. ( kingston Impact DDR5 Laptop Memory 4800MT/s / 32GB / Kit of 2 (KF548S38IBK2-64) $235 total). Very easy install, poped out 16gb stick & put in new ram, unplugged battery and plugged back in and closed case back up and was good to go. Only concern so far is wondering how finish will hold up. Time will tell.

Comes installed with windows 10 and requires you to upgrade yourself instead of coming with 11 and having an optional downgrade Has the slot for a sim card, but doesnt come with the actual sim tray to hold it. very fast, average screen but that helps with battery Battery lasts roughly 6-7 hrs out the box with average usage Happy overall, great specs and smooth trackpad but not sure i would have bought it if wasnt on sale

This is easily the best laptop I've ever owned -- and I've had a number of laptops over the years. It was easy to unpackage and set up. Screen resolution and brightness is excellent. And is thin, light and fast. I also like that the web cam has a sliding privacy cover.

Had it for less than 2 weeks and have issues with the computer already. Touchpad is acting up and the mic doesn't work. Even with next business support warranty and I can't even get the issues fixed.

I have had this laptop since September and it has been great. Battery life is good and the 16:10 ratio is great for productivity apps. At launch there were a few hiccups (hello id didn't work with the camera only the fingerprint reader) but several updates have resolved the issues. I rarely hear the fan. I am not doing any gaming, mostly productivity apps and web browsing but it has been great. I had tried 3 other competitors and kept this one. I wish HP could fix their care pack issues. I bought an extended warranty at the same time as the laptop and it still shows I only have 1 year. Now I have to contact them to straighten it out. This has happened with most of my HP purchases.

What matters to me is stability and this one is stable. Zero crashes of any kind. I maxed out the memory to 64GB using a pair of CT32G48C40S5 from Amazon. I reinstalled Win11 onto a larger SSD. It went smoothly. Remote desktop connects first time, every time. This is the way a new computer is supposed to work. The bad: The wolf boot logo is unwelcome. It's embarrassing if someone sees me boot because because it looks like a child's gaming computer. The wolf sticker is tilted. I will pull if off, so it doesn't matter. But it gives an unprofessional look out of the box. The BIOS phase of booting is too slow. What happened to the lightening fast HP BIOS of the past? It takes a while for BIOS to boot before starting the OS. The good: 16 thread AMD Ryzen (Rembrandt) processor.
