It was finally time to replace my HP4540S ProBook laptop, which I had bought for my business back in 2012. It was the best computer I had ever used and was still working, but starting to wear out after 12 years. I knew that I was going to have to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11. Because I had such a good experience with this HP computer, I came right back to HP for this new HP Elitebook 840 14" Touch Screen Model. My needs have changed somewhat as I have retired, but I wanted something robust with a lot of memory in a smaller footprint, and this fit the bill. It's fast, quiet, and easy to transport. I would have liked to have a numerical keypad, but size was more important this time around. Transferring over my Microsoft 365 subscription was quick and easy, and I was up and running in just a few minutes. I'm hoping that this one will take care of me for a long time to come. I highly recommend this model.

This HP EliteBook 840 G10 is excellent. 14 " screen. Easily upgradeable and most comfortable. It is a winner. But the user manual is light on clear and detailed information. As a long term techie some difficulties were experienced with understanding the manual. The spefications are excellent guidance for both operation and upgrading. After 3 weeks I really love this laptop. Highly recommended.

This laptop is blazing fast, slim, and exactly what I need. When I first saw the keyboard, I was extremely worried about the location of the power button - I figured I would hit it at least once per hour. Thankfully, just accidentally pressing it doesn't power-down the computer of put it to sleep, so it's not a big deal. One thing I do miss, though, is the grouping of arrow keys, home, end, page up, and page down keys on the far right. I am still getting used to the new locations of these buttons.

I'm actually having a problem with my new Elitebook, specifically the sound quality on YouTube and Facebook videos. It sounds slightly distorted--just enough to be annoying. I took my laptop to a local tech, paid $120, and he said there's nothing wrong, just that I have low-quality speakers & some videos have crappy sound. However, my last computer is an Elitebook 840 G3 with Bang & Olufsen speakers, and when I perform a side-by-side comparison, my old computer sounds absolutely fine. I'm really bummed.

Technically the Elitebook 840 G10 works as expected with minimal setup issues. Biggest negative was the intense bombardment by the various providers: Microsoft 365 was especially persistent in offering specific software much of which I had no use having already other options on hand. More precise information should be provided about HP Wolf Security such as length of free period and what it actually does. It would have prevented me from having to beat off better known providers such as Norton and McAfee. I came very close to being seduced by McAfee but became curious about Wolf which was also pestering me without enlarging in any way what it could provide. Finally I got Wolf setup after about a month. Should have done it much sooner. Keyboard was another problem: trying to get the right one. The Canadian English kept printing É for ?. After a couple of days by trial and error I finally got a standard key board not Canadian but USA English. I managed to scrounge up a USA 2014 version of Quicken from Etsy which works and ended up with Thunderbird as Windows Live Mail was seriously dated. Setting up Thunderbird by the way is not for the faint of heart. Took me about two weeks and I almost lost all my e-mail archives in the process. Now after about five weeks since delivery, I have everything working well except for my HP Scanner G4010. Regrettably, HP cannot supply completely updated software and drivers. There is a partial driver available but lacking is the stuff to operate the scanner seamlessly. Something called VueScan 64 will work but the software is both creaky and expensive so I shall be buying either an Epson or Canon device at less cost than Vue Scan wants for their software package. I note that HP has vacated the inexpensive scanner market and now offers nothing like the Epson Perfection V19 or Canon CanoScan LiDE400. By the way I pretty much anticipated all the foregoing issues. I am not new to HP as my last device was an Elitebook 8540W. Yes it is still working but s l o w l y. Once I am confident in the new Elitebook I'll strip the old one and off to the dump. It was bought December 2, 2010 so it had a good run once we replaced the hard drive in 2011. As a personal non business owner, yes, I am happy with the new device. It is my eighth laptop i.e. RAMBYTE 8.

First laptop arrived DOA. Replacement laptop took 2 weeks to arrive even though next business day delivery was promised. HP's website is very poorly designed, requiring multiple log-ins to complete the simplest of tasks. Tech support was needlessly difficult to reach. Based on my experiences engaging with HP so far, I'm concerned about the reliability of this laptop. It has a 3 year warranty but that is only valuable if the customer can navigate HP's terrible online support.

This seem to be a very laptop. I didn't get a chance to use it. I set it up for facial recognition. I stepped away for a few minutes and when I returned I had to log in. It was asking for a password instead of facial recognition. It did not recognize my password and it didn't have a link that said forgot password. There wasn't another option to sign in. I called HP customer service and they tried to assist but that didn't workout. One suggested that I do a factory recovery or call Microsoft. The next representative sent a USB recovery drive. They sent the wrong drive. So unfortunately I had to return the laptop. The screen was smaller than I anticipated. That was my fault. Customer service were easy to reach and they tried to resolved the problem. I spent too much time to get going. I needed a laptop immediately. Unfortunately, I purchased a different brand.

The fan is extremely loud and whirs up and down continuously. I've never had a laptop anywhere near as loud. It's quite distracting and annoying.

I've had over two weeks, and the set up has been a little more than expected. It has not be difficult, but I was hoping for a plug and play, boot it up, and I'd be off and running. It required more set up screens, applications, etc. However, it's been a few years since my last purchase.

Computer arrived damaged. Originally I thought it was only a small dent, and accepted a 10% credit. Later, I saw that the screen was damaged. Customer service is difficult to contact even though I have onsite support.
