Overheating

My laptop is constantly overheating to the point it is too hot to even sit on my lap to type. It isn't even due to high usage as I only have three web browsers tabs open! When I reached out to HP Costumers Service, I can't get past the automated answering machine to inquire with a real person. I was only successful once and they took so long to answer I ran out of time to talk to them... then they closed my ticket in about two days without fixing the issues or giving me time to reach out again at my convenience. Extremely disappointed with my first HP laptop purchase.

Two Thumbs Up

This is a great daily use computer. The size is perfect. I often sit in bed with my laptop and its not heavy or bulky. Perfect! The backlight is a must have if you ever use your computer after dark. There's nothing negative to say about the Pavilion. Transitioning to a new computer is seamless these days. Files transfer over with minimal effort so do personal settings.

Nice laptop, runs too hot

Construction: This is a high quality laptop made of hard, stiff plastic with little body or deck flex. It has high quality white keyboard backlighting and a large but not abnormally-sized touchpad. The screen is made from glass, and the device has silicone feet anywhere it may be placed down. The hinges are made of aluminum with plastic pieces in them. I am somewhat concerned about their longevity given past x360 models. Software: Most of the HP software is unnecessary and I uninstalled it. The fan is not user-controllable, which is unfortunate because the stock fan curve is awful and the fan doesn't ramp up sometimes even as the machine is actively thermal throttling. IO: Adequate. The USB ports are too close together and the user cannot connect 2 USB drives at once without using thin drives or an extension cable. The USB C port with bidirectional charging is a good feature, but it should be on the same side as the regular charging port. Alternatively, remove the regular port altogether and use only USB C. Keyboard and Touch: The keyboard is good with good backlighting. The row of function keys on the right is annoying and I often press HOME or END or something trying to backspace. Putting power buttons on the keyboard is stupid, but this laptop does it anyways. The trackpad is very good, no notes. The touchscreen is solid enough to do basic digital art on but fails to do some extremely fine tasks sometimes. The fingerprint scanner is solid, but often takes multiple attempts. Performance: This laptop struggles doing anything more than watching YouTube, but that's all most people need. Windows feels snappy and responsive, and programs like Word run with no lag to speak of. The CPU runs way too hot, however, and often thermal throttles and slows the entire system to a crawl during video calls. The battery is good, charges fast, and lasts an average amount of time - about what I would expect from an Intel x64 laptop. Overall: This is a very solid daily machine that can slip easily into a bag and be quickly flipped open at any library, coffee shop, or bedroom. The integrated pen is good for notes. The laptop should not be used for any intensive tasks, however, because it runs hot enough to throttle the CPU, damaging performance and potentially causing small amounts of long term damage to the device.

Poor physical design.

The keyboard on this HP Pavilion is not designed properly. When one places one's fingers on the keys to type, one's right thumb, where it attaches to the person's hand, covers a large portion of the touchpad area. Because of this, the thumb is nearly constantly bumping the touchpad causing errors in typing. Also, this computer is kind of slow bringing up webpages, etc...

Lack of Storage Capacity

We returned this laptop due to inadequate storage capacity. HP could not help me with an exchange so we purchased from another manufacturer.

Awesome, fast, reliable!

Ever since purchasing this computer it has been nothing but awesome for me. It has been fast and reliable, getting all of my jobs done quickly and efficiently. It so much better than the computer that I was using which was not an HP brand. I definitely would buy this brand again. I did upgrade this computer when purchasing and am very glad I did so. Absolutely love the pink color!

A good laptop, but needs improvement

My laptop was delivered on 9/19/2024, and completely froze and black screened on October 21, 2024. The laptop would not re-boot at all. I had to get a friend who was a technical expert to help me get the laptop to boot. This was disappointing for a new laptop. Other than this concerning issue, the laptop works fine, and I'm enjoying using it. Just not certain I would order another HP product after this experience. We'll see after a few years of using the HP Pavilion.

It's an HP

It hasn't broken yet. I have a stack of other HP laptops that stopped working prematurely. I'm not sure why we keep buying HP laptops but we do. We're not horribly happy with them because they often stop working very soon after being purchased. And when we take them in to be fixed, we're told they're not fixable.

Works as said

As expected, it works great. It can handle modded sims. And some other games I've downloaded like Content Warning. Awesome, 10/10.

Greal little laptop

So far, the laptop has been excellent. Good performance and no issues. It isn't a high-performance laptop, and I knew that when I made the purchase, but it is perfect for the application for which it was purchased.

Jim's Pavilion

This is my second Pavilion. This new unit replaced one that needed to be retired due to broken hinges. Concerning the new model.....fantastic screen, and love the backlit keyboard.

78 year old parents easily set up and love it!

My old Mac Book went Black Screen on me about a year ago. My partner at the office recommended this product. It meets all my work and personal needs. So, when my 78 year old parents announced they lost their old dinosaur in a lightning strike, I replaced it with this! They had it up and running within minutes and are relieved and happy!

Pavilion

I like the laptop with one exception. I found the keys are very difficult to type with. I now use a wireless keyboard, and staying away from the laptop's keyboard has really helped.

Great for travel.

Excellent for travel, compact and light weight but full function. The onboard SSD at 256GB is adequate for my needs as I only load programs that are needed for my travels. 16GB onboard memory is fine. Has a micro-SD card slot and more storage is available through the two USB 2.0 ports and the one USB Type C port to memory devices. The screen is sharp, bright and big enough. Can be rotated for use with the touch screen feature and the HP pen. Has fingerprint reader. Good quality audio through the stereo speakers built-in or via headphone/ear buds. Keys are a bit hard to read in low light so get the back light option. Touch pad works well but I prefer a mouse. The Intel processor is fast and stable. Hook up to Wi-Fi is easy. Battery works well but I have operated on battery-only power for 4 hours while on a plane. Could last longer as it is spec'd to 9 hours. Have not used the web camera yet. Runs on Windows 11 Home which is good enough for me. Very satisfied with the purchase which was reasonably priced with free shipping through an HP web site sale.

Just what I needed

The computer works quite well for my needs. Yes, I am over 18, 83 to be exact. I needed a unit that would allow me to sit at my kitchen table and pay bills, check email and do a little shopping. This one is a fit. I will never use all of the bells and whistles but am quite happy with the way it fits my needs. It was easy to set up, too.

Great Computer, faulty information

The computer is for my daughter for college and she is really happy with it. I have no complaints about the product itself. What I am concerned with is the online ordering. When we selected the computer we selected a standard model with no customization, upon check out we were informed that the laptop would be delivered within 7-10 business days. Satisfied we made the purchase. Unfortunately the laptop took almost 4 weeks to arrive, when I called to ask about it I was told that since we ordered a customized laptop it needed to be built and then sent and that took longer. Had I known that we would have purchased elsewhere.

Keys are Very Difficult to Read.

I haven't used my new laptop much yet but the one and only thing I don't like about it is that I find the keys are very hard to read. The lettering is almost the same color as the key itself. I wish I knew this before purchasing. Maybe HP has a solution for this.
