I really want to like this printer, but upon beginning my fourth year with it, it is once again not working, with the same symptoms it always presents. It needs a new Hard Drive, the fourth one in four years. It has a problem most HP printers seem to have, it is near impossible to delete a print file and that seems to be a big part of the problem. Anyway, when it works, it works pretty good, but once a year, like clockwork, the Hard Drive fails and it becomes a waste of space.

The Designjet t790 should do everything that I require but has yet to print one clear document. When using a large format printer it really important to not waist ink and paper because they are so expensive and I wasted a lot of both trying to get it to print property. The trouble shooting guide is pretty basic and straight forward but not thorough. The problem I have with the printer is that it will pass all of the diagnostics and will print a 8.5" x 11" after cleaning the heads but will not print a large format 24"x36" document. The colors and black/greys will start failing about halfway through the large format document. The other minor design problem with the stand combo is the paper catcher is not very strong and the catch position is not adjustable (currently sits too far away from the printer so it does not catch the paper much better than letting fall to the floor).

We purchased this printer to replace a well-worn 24" Designjet T610. Good choice. Produces very clear, detailed maps. A bonus - it uses the same ink and paper rolls that we have in stock for the old printer.

We researched and toiled over which printer to buy for printing large 24" drawings. I called HP and their tech helped me decide this was the best buy. On the front end it seemed like a lot more than what I was going to spend on other models but after adding up all the things that "are in the box" with this one. I was convinced this was not only a good buy, but the smart buy. It's the latest generation and you can tell. We were up and printing on a network within an hour. Very happy with our decision to buy this printer.

This product is quiet and prints fast but had a poor catch tray. The paper tends to wad up in the bottom of the tray. We also have the Designjet 500 and it has a different try that doesn't wad the paper up. We also don't like that it doesn't have a view window.
